May 6th : Gospel I am the vine, you are the branchesA Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 15:1-8

May 6th  :  Gospel

I am the vine, you are the branches

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 15:1-8

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine dresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples.”

May 6th : Responsorial  Psalm

Psalm 122:1–2, 3–4ab, 4cd–5 (R. see 1)

Response : Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

I rejoiced when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” And now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.

R.: Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

Jerusalem is built as a city bonded as one together. It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord.

R.: Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

For Israel’s witness it is to praise the name of the Lord. There were set the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

R.: Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

Alleluia
V. Alleluia.

R. Alleluia.

V. Abide in me, and I in you, says the Lord; whoever abides in me bears much fruit.

They were to go up to Jerusalem and discuss the problem with the apostles and elders

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles  15: 1-6

In those days: Some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question. So, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and brought great joy to all the brothers. When they came to Jerusalem, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they declared all that God had done with them. But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, “It is necessary to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses.” The apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter.

May 5th : Gospel A peace the world cannot give is my gift to youA Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 14: 27-31

May 5th :  Gospel

A peace the world cannot give is my gift to you

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 14: 27-31

At that time; Jesus said to his disciples “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father.”

May 5th :  First Reading

They gave an account of how God had opened the door of faith to the pagans

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles 14: 19-28

In those days: Jews came [to Lystra] from Antioch and Iconium, and having persuaded the crowds, they stoned Paul and dragged him out of the city, supposing that he was dead. But when the disciples gathered about him, he rose up and entered the city, and on the next day he went on with Barnabas to Derbe. When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed. Then they passed through Pisidia, and came to Pamphylia. And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia, and from there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work that they had fulfilled. And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. And they remained no little time with the disciples.
