நான் உலகிற்கு ஒளியாக வந்தேன்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு உரத்த குரலில் கூறியது: “என்னிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொள்பவர் என்னிடம் மட்டும் அல்ல, என்னை அனுப்பியவரிடமே நம்பிக்கை கொள்கிறார். என்னைக் காண்பவரும் என்னை அனுப்பியவரையே காண்கிறார்.

என்னிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொள்பவர் இருளில் இராதபடி நான் ஒளியாக உலகிற்கு வந்தேன். நான் கூறும் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டும் அவற்றைக் கடைப்பிடியாதவருக்குத் தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பு வழங்குபவன் நானல்ல. ஏனெனில் நான் உலகிற்குத் தீர்ப்பு வழங்க வரவில்லை; மாறாக அதை மீட்கவே வந்தேன்.

என்னைப் புறக்கணித்து நான் சொல்வதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதவருக்குத் தீர்ப்பளிக்கும் ஒன்று உண்டு; என் வார்த்தையே அது. இறுதி நாளில் அவர்களுக்கு அது தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பு அளிக்கும். ஏனெனில் நானாக எதையும் பேசவில்லை; என்னை அனுப்பிய தந்தையே நான் என்ன சொல்லவேண்டும், என்ன பேசவேண்டும் என்பதுபற்றி எனக்குக் கட்டளை கொடுத்துள்ளார். அவருடைய கட்டளை நிலைவாழ்வு தருகிறது என்பது எனக்குத் தெரியும். எனவே நான் சொல்பவற்றையெல்லாம் தந்தை என்னிடம் கூறியவாறே சொல்கிறேன்.”

 "உலகின் ஒளி நானே; என்னைப் பின்தொடர்பவர் வாழ்வுக்கு வழி காட்டும் ஒளியைக் கொண்டிருப்பார்" என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர். அல்லேலூயா.

அந்நாள்களில்

கடவுளின் வார்த்தை மேன்மேலும் பரவியது. பர்னபாவும் சவுலும் தங்கள் திருத்தொண்டை முடித்தபின், மாற்கு எனப்படும் யோவானைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, எருசலேமிலிருந்து திரும்பிச் சென்றனர்.

அந்தியோக்கிய திருச்சபையில் பர்னபா, நீகர் எனப்படும் சிமியோன், சிரேன் ஊரானாகிய லூக்கியு, குறுநில மன்னன் ஏரோதுவுடன் வளர்ந்த மனாயீன், சவுல் ஆகியோர் இறைவாக்கினராகவும் போதகராகவும் இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் நோன்பிருந்து ஆண்டவரை வழிபடும்போது தூய ஆவியார் அவர்களிடம், “பர்னபாவையும் சவுலையும் ஒரு தனிப்பட்ட பணிக்கென நான் அழைத்திருக்கிறேன். அந்தப் பணிக்காக அவர்களை ஒதுக்கி வையுங்கள்” என்று கூறினார். அவர்கள் நோன்பிருந்து இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினார்கள்; தங்கள் கைகளை அவ்விருவர்மீது வைத்துத் திருப்பணியிலமர்த்தி அவர்களை அனுப்பி வைத்தார்கள்.

இவ்வாறு தூய ஆவியாரால் அனுப்பப்பட்டவர்கள் செலூக்கியாவுக்குச் சென்றார்கள்; அங்கிருந்து சைப்பிரசுக்குக் கப்பலேறினார்கள். அவர்கள் சாலமி நகருக்கு வந்து அங்குள்ள யூதரின் தொழுகைக் கூடங்களில் கடவுளின் வார்த்தையை அறிவித்தார்கள்; யோவானைத் தங்கள் உதவியாளராகக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 12: 44-50 

At that time: Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees him who sent me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. For I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has himself given me a commandment— what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”

'I want Barnabas and Saul set apart'

A Reading from the Acts of  Apostles 12: 24-13:5 

In those days: The word of God increased and multiplied. And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem when they had completed their service, bringing with them John, whose other name was Mark. Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews.
