எருசலேமில் மானிட மகன் தலைமைக் குருக்களிடமும் மறைநூல் அறிஞர்களிடமும் ஒப்புவிக்கப்படுவார்.

அக்காலத்தில்

சீடர்கள் எருசலேமுக்குப் போகும் வழியில் சென்றுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களுக்குமுன் போய்க்கொண்டிருந்தார். சீடர் திகைப்புற்றிருக்க, அவரைப் பின்பற்றிய ஏனையோர் அச்சம் கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவர் மீண்டும் பன்னிருவரை அழைத்துத் தமக்கு நிகழ இருப்பவற்றைக் குறித்துப் பேசத் தொடங்கினார்.

அவர், “இப்பொழுது நாம் எருசலேமுக்குச் செல்கிறோம். மானிட மகன் தலைமைக் குருக்களிடமும் மறைநூல் அறிஞர்களிடமும் ஒப்புவிக்கப்படுவார்; அவர்கள் அவருக்கு மரண தண்டனை விதித்து அவரைப் பிற இனத்தவரிடம் ஒப்புவிப்பார்கள்; அவர்கள் ஏளனம் செய்து, அவர்மீது துப்பி, சாட்டையால் அடித்து அவரைக் கொலை செய்வார்கள். மூன்று நாள்களுக்குப் பின் அவர் உயிர்த்தெழுவார்” என்று அவர்களிடம் கூறினார்.

செபதேயுவின் மக்கள் யாக்கோபும் யோவானும் அவரை அணுகிச் சென்று அவரிடம், “போதகரே, நாங்கள் கேட்பதை நீர் எங்களுக்குச் செய்ய வேண்டும் என விரும்புகிறோம்” என்றார்கள். அவர் அவர்களிடம், “நான் என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்று நீங்கள் விரும்புகிறீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் அவரை நோக்கி, “நீர் அரியணையில் இருக்கும்போது எங்களுள் ஒருவர் உமது வலப்புறமும் இன்னொருவர் உமது இடப்புறமும் அமர்ந்து கொள்ள எங்களுக்கு அருளும்” என்று வேண்டினர்.

இயேசுவோ அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் என்ன கேட்கிறீர்கள் என உங்களுக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. நான் குடிக்கும் துன்பக் கிண்ணத்தில் உங்களால் குடிக்க இயலுமா? நான் பெறும் திருமுழுக்கை உங்களால் பெற இயலுமா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அவர்கள் அவரிடம், “இயலும்” என்று சொல்ல, இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நான் குடிக்கும் கிண்ணத்தில் நீங்கள் குடிப்பீர்கள். நான் பெறும் திருமுழுக்கையும் நீங்கள் பெறுவீர்கள். ஆனால் என் வலப்புறத்திலும் இடப் புறத்திலும் அமரும்படி அருளுவது எனது செயல் அல்ல; மாறாக அவ்விடங்கள் யாருக்கு ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளதோ அவர்களுக்கே அருளப்படும்” என்று கூறினார்.

இதைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்த பத்துப் பேரும் யாக்கோபுமீதும் யோவான்மீதும் கோபங்கொள்ளத் தொடங்கினர். இயேசு அவர்களை வரவழைத்து அவர்களிடம், “பிற இனத்தவரிடையே தலைவர்கள் எனக் கருதப்படுகிறவர்கள் மக்களை அடக்கி ஆளுகிறார்கள். அவர்களுள் பெரியவர்கள் அவர்கள்மீது தங்கள் அதிகாரத்தைக் காட்டுகிறார்கள். ஆனால் உங்களிடையே அப்படி இருக்கக்கூடாது. உங்களுள் பெரியவராக இருக்க விரும்புகிறவர், உங்கள் தொண்டராய் இருக்கட்டும். உங்களுள் முதன்மையானவராக இருக்க விரும்புகிறவர், அனைவருக்கும் பணியாளராக இருக்கட்டும். ஏனெனில் மானிட மகன் தொண்டு ஏற்பதற்கு அல்ல, மாறாகத் தொண்டு ஆற்றுவதற்கும் பலருடைய மீட்புக்கு ஈடாகத் தம் உயிரைக் கொடுப்பதற்கும் வந்தார்” என்று கூறினார்.

அன்புக்குரியவர்களே,

உங்கள் மூதாதையரிடமிருந்து வழிவழியாய் வந்த வீணான நடத்தையினின்று உங்களை விடுவிக்கக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட விலை என்னவென்று உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும். அது பொன்னும் வெள்ளியும் போன்று அழிவுக்குட்பட்டது அல்ல; மாறாக, மாசு மறுவற்ற ஆட்டுக்குட்டியைப் போன்ற கிறிஸ்துவின் உயர் மதிப்புள்ள இரத்தமாகும். உலகம் தோன்றும் முன்னரே முன்குறிக்கப்பட்ட அவர், இந்தக் கடைசிக் காலத்தில் உங்களுக்காக வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டார். அவர் வழியாகத்தான் நீங்கள் கடவுள்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டுள்ளீர்கள். இறந்த அவரைக் கடவுள் உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்து பெருமைப்படுத்தியுள்ளார். இதனால் நீங்கள் கடவுளிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு அவரை எதிர்நோக்கி இருக்கவே இவ்வாறு செய்தார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 10: 32-45

At that time: The disciples were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. And they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid. And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.” And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came up to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the chalice that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” And they said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The chalice that I drink you will drink, and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized, but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant at James and John. A Reading from the first letter of St.Peter 1: 18-25

Beloved: Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains for ever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you.
