அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு எருசலேமுக்குள் சென்று கோவிலில் நுழைந்தார். அவர் அனைத்தையும் சுற்றிப் பார்த்துவிட்டு, ஏற்கெனவே மாலை வேளையாகி விட்டதால், பன்னிருவருடன் பெத்தானியாவுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார்.

மறுநாள் பெத்தானியாவை விட்டு அவர்கள் திரும்பியபொழுது இயேசுவுக்குப் பசி உண்டாயிற்று. இலையடர்ந்த ஓர் அத்தி மரத்தை அவர் தொலையிலிருந்து கண்டு, அதில் ஏதாவது கிடைக்குமா என்று அதன் அருகில் சென்றார். சென்றபோது இலைகளைத் தவிர வேறு எதையும் அவர் காணவில்லை. ஏனெனில் அது அத்திப் பழக்காலம் அல்ல. அவர் அதைப் பார்த்து, “இனி உன் கனியை யாரும் உண்ணவே கூடாது” என்றார். அவருடைய சீடர்கள் இதைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் எருசலேமுக்கு வந்தார்கள். கோவிலுக்குள் சென்றதும் இயேசு அங்கு விற்பவர்களையும் வாங்குபவர்களையும் வெளியே துரத்தத் தொடங்கினார்; நாணயம் மாற்றுவோரின் மேசைகளையும் புறா விற்பவர்களின் இருக்கைகளையும் கவிழ்த்துப்போட்டார். கோவில் வழியாக எந்தப் பொருளையும் எடுத்துச் செல்ல அவர் விடவில்லை. “ ‘என் இல்லம் மக்களினங்கள் அனைத்திற்கும் உரிய இறைவேண்டலின் வீடு என அழைக்கப்படும்’ என்று மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளது” என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தார்; “ஆனால் நீங்கள் இதைக் கள்வர் குகையாக்கிவிட்டீர்கள்” என்றார்.

தலைமைக் குருக்களும் மறைநூல் அறிஞர்களும் இதைக் கேட்டு, அவரை எப்படி ஒழித்து விடலாம் என்று வழி தேடினார்கள். எனினும் கூட்டத்தினர் அனைவரும் அவரது போதனையில் ஆழ்ந்து வியந்திருந்ததால் அவர்கள் அவருக்கு அஞ்சினார்கள்.

மாலை வேளை ஆனதும் இயேசுவும் சீடர்களும் நகரத்திலிருந்து வெளியேறினார்கள். காலையில் அவர்கள் அவ்வழியே சென்றபோது அந்த அத்திமரம் வேரோடு பட்டுப்போயிருந்ததைக் கண்டார்கள். அப்போது பேதுரு நடந்ததை நினைவுகூர்ந்து அவரை நோக்கி, “ரபி, அதோ நீர் சபித்த அத்திமரம் பட்டுப்போயிற்று” என்றார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “கடவுள்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளுங்கள். உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: எவராவது இந்த மலையைப் பார்த்து, ‘பெயர்ந்து கடலில் விழு’ எனத் தம் உள்ளத்தில் ஐயம் எதுவுமின்றி நம்பிக்கையுடன் கூறினால், அவர் சொன்னவாறே நடக்கும். ஆகவே உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: நீங்கள் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும்போது எவற்றையெல்லாம் கேட்பீர்களோ அவற்றைப் பெற்றுவிட்டீர்கள் என நம்புங்கள்; நீங்கள் கேட்டபடியே நடக்கும். நீங்கள் வேண்டுதல் செய்ய நிற்கும்போது யார் மேலாவது நீங்கள் மனத்தாங்கல் கொண்டிருந்தால், மன்னித்துவிடுங்கள். அப்போது உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையும் உங்கள் குற்றங்களை மன்னிப்பார். நீங்கள் மன்னிக்காவிட்டால் உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையும் உங்கள் குற்றங்களை மன்னிக்க மாட்டார்” என்று கூறினார்.

அன்புக்குரியவர்களே,

எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் முடிவு நெருங்கிவிட்டது. எனவே, இறைவனிடம் வேண்டுதல் செய்யுமாறு கட்டுப்பாட்டோடும் அறிவுத் தெளிவோடும் இருங்கள். எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் மேலாக, ஒருவருக்கொருவர் ஆழ்ந்த அன்பு காட்டுங்கள். ஏனெனில், அன்பு திரளான பாவங்களையும் போக்கும், முணுமுணுக்காமல் ஒருவருக்கொருவர் விருந்தோம்புங்கள். நீங்கள் கடவுளுடைய பல்வகை அருள்கொடைகளின் சீரிய பொறுப்பாளர்கள்.

எனவே உங்களுள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் தாம் பெற்றுக்கொண்ட அருள்கொடையைப் பயன்படுத்தி, ஒருவருக்கொருவர் பணிபுரியுங்கள். ஒருவர் பேசும் கொடையைப் பெற்றிருந்தால், அவரது பேச்சு கடவுளுடைய வார்த்தைகளைப்போல் இருக்கட்டும். ஒருவர் பணி செய்யும் கொடையைப் பெற்றிருந்தால், கடவுள் அருளும் ஆற்றலைப் பெற்றவர்போல் பணி செய்யட்டும்; இவ்வாறு இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் வழியாகக் கடவுள் அனைத்திலும் பெருமை பெறுவார். அவருக்கே மாட்சியும் வல்லமையும் என்றென்றும் உரித்தாகுக! ஆமென்.

அன்புக்குரியவர்களே, துன்பத் தீயில் நீங்கள் சோதிக்கப்படும்போது, ஏதோ எதிர்பாராதது நேர்ந்துவிட்டதென வியக்காதீர்கள். மாறாக, கிறிஸ்துவின் துன்பங்களில் நீங்கள் இத்துணைப் பங்குகொள்கிறீர்கள் என எண்ணி மகிழுங்கள். அப்பொழுது கிறிஸ்துவின் மாட்சி வெளிப்படும் வேளையில் இன்னும் மகிழ்ந்து பேருவகை கொள்வீர்கள்.

Jesus entered Jerusalem [amid acclamations from the crowd,] and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it. And they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold and those who bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. And he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.” And the chief priests and the scribes heard it and were seeking a way to destroy him, for they feared him, because all the crowd was astonished at his teaching. And when evening came they went out of the city. As they passed by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. And Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea’, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Beloved: The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.
