சீசருக்கு உரியவற்றைச் சீசருக்கும் கடவுளுக்கு உரியவற்றைக் கடவுளுக்கும் கொடுங்கள்.

அக்காலத்தில்

பரிசேயர் இயேசுவை அவருடைய பேச்சில் சிக்க வைக்க ஏரோதியர் சிலரை அவரிடம் அனுப்பி வைத்தனர். அவர்கள் அவரிடம் வந்து, “போதகரே, நீர் உண்மையுள்ளவர்; ஆள் பார்த்துச் செயல்படாதவர்; எவரையும் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் கடவுளின் நெறியை உண்மைக்கு ஏற்பக் கற்பிப்பவர் என்பது எங்களுக்குத் தெரியும். சீசருக்கு வரி செலுத்துவது முறையா, இல்லையா? நாங்கள் செலுத்தட்டுமா, வேண்டாமா?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

அவர் அவர்களுடைய வெளிவேடத்தைப் புரிந்துகொண்டு, “ஏன் என்னைச் சோதிக்கிறீர்கள்? என்னிடம் ஒரு தெனாரியம் கொண்டு வாருங்கள். நான் பார்க்க வேண்டும்” என்றார். அவர்கள் அதைக் கொண்டுவந்தார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “இதில் பொறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள உருவமும் எழுத்தும் யாருடையவை?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் அவரிடம், “சீசருடையவை” என்றார்கள்.

அதற்கு இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “சீசருக்கு உரியவற்றைச் சீசருக்கும் கடவுளுக்கு உரியவற்றைக் கடவுளுக்கும் கொடுங்கள்” என்றார். அவர்கள் அவரைக் குறித்து வியப்படைந்தார்கள்.

கடவுளுடைய அழைப்பு உங்களுக்கு எத்தகைய எதிர்நோக்கைத் தந்துள்ளது என்று நீங்கள் அறியுமாறு நம் ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் கடவுளும் மாட்சிமிகு தந்தையுமானவர் நம் அகக் கண்களுக்கு ஒளி தருவாராக. அல்லேலூயா.

அன்புக்குரியவர்களே,

கடவுளின் நாளை எதிர்பார்த்து அவர் வருகையை விரைவுபடுத்த வேண்டும். அந்நாளில் வானங்கள் எரிந்தழிந்து பஞ்சபூதங்கள் வெந்துருகிப் போகும். அவர் வாக்களித்தபடியே நீதி குடிகொண்டிருக்கும். புதிய விண்ணுலகும் புதிய மண்ணுலகும் வரும் என நாம் எதிர்பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.

ஆகவே, அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே, இவற்றை எதிர்பார்த்திருக்கும் உங்களை அவர் மாசுமறுவற்றவர்களாய், நல்லுறவு கொண்டவர்களாய்க் காணும் வகையில் முழு முயற்சி செய்யுங்கள். நம் ஆண்டவரின் பொறுமையை மீட்பு எனக் கருதுங்கள்.

அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே, நீங்கள் இவற்றையெல்லாம் ஏற்கெனவே அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்கள். கட்டுப்பாடற்றவர்களின் தவறான வழிகளால் கவர்ந்திழுக்கப்பட்டு, உங்கள் உறுதி நிலையினின்று விழுந்துவிடாதபடி கவனமாயிருங்கள். நம் ஆண்டவரும் மீட்பருமான இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் அருளிலும் அறிவிலும் வளர்ச்சி அடையுங்கள். அவருக்கே இன்றும் என்றென்றும் மாட்சி உரித்தாகுக! ஆமென்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 12:13-17

At that time: They sent to Jesus some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodians, to trap him in his talk. And they came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are true and do not care about anyone’s opinion. For you are not swayed by appearances, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?” But, knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why put me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” And they brought one. And he said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marvelled at him.

A Reading from the Second Letter of St.Peter 3:12–15a, 17–18

Beloved: Waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. And count the patience of our Lord as salvation. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
