A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark 10: 28-31 

At that time: Peter began to say to Jesus, “See, we have left everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

A Reading from the first letter of St.Peter 1: 10-16 

Beloved: Concerning the salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and enquired carefully, enquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

அதற்கு இயேசு, “உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: என் பொருட்டும் நற்செய்தியின் பொருட்டும் வீடுகளையோ, சகோதரர்களையோ, சகோதரிகளையோ, தாயையோ, தந்தையையோ, பிள்ளைகளையோ, நிலபுலங்களையோ விட்டுவிட்ட எவரும் இம்மையில் நூறு மடங்காக வீடுகளையும் சகோதரர்களையும் சகோதரிகளையும் தாயையும் நிலபுலங்களையும், இவற்றோடுகூட இன்னல்களையும் மறுமையில் நிலைவாழ்வையும் பெறாமல் போகார். முதன்மையானோர் பலர் கடைசி ஆவர்; கடைசியானோர் முதன்மை ஆவர்” என்றார்.

அன்புக்குரியவர்களே,

உங்களுக்கென்று இருந்த அருளைப் பற்றித்தான் இறைவாக்கினர் இறைவாக்கு உரைத்தனர்; இந்த மீட்பைக் குறித்துத் துருவித் துருவி ஆய்ந்தனர். தங்களுக்குள் இருந்த கிறிஸ்துவின் ஆவி, கிறிஸ்து படவேண்டிய துன்பங்களையும் அவற்றுக்குப்பின் அடையவேண்டிய மாட்சியையும் முன்னறிவித்தபோது, ஆவியால் குறிப்பிடப்பட்ட காலமும் சூழ்நிலையும் எவையென்று ஆராய்ந்தனர். அவர்களது பணி தங்கள் பொருட்டல்ல, உங்கள் பொருட்டே என்பது அவர்களுக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. விண்ணினின்று அனுப்பப்பட்ட தூய ஆவியால் உங்களுக்கு நற்செய்தி அறிவித்தவர்கள், அவர்கள் முன்னறிவித்தவற்றை இப்போது உங்களுக்குத் தெரிவித்திருக்கிறார்கள். இவற்றை அறிந்துகொள்ள வானதூதர்களும் ஆவலோடு இருந்தார்கள்.

ஆகவே, உங்கள் மனம் செயலாற்றத் தயாராய் இருக்கட்டும்; அறிவுத் தெளிவுடையவர்களாய் இருங்கள். இயேசு கிறிஸ்து வெளிப்படும்பொழுது உங்களுக்கு அளிக்கப்படும் அருளை முழுமையாக எதிர்நோக்கி இருங்கள். முன்னர் அறியாமையில் இருந்தபோது இச்சைகளுக்கிசைய நடந்தது போலன்றி, கீழ்ப்படிதலுள்ள மக்களாய் இருங்கள். உங்களை அழைத்தவர் தூய்மை உள்ளவராய் இருப்பது போல நீங்களும் உங்கள் நடத்தையிலெல்லாம் தூய்மை உள்ளவர்களாய் இருங்கள். ‘நீங்கள் தூயவராய் இருங்கள்; ஏனெனில் நான் தூயவன்’ என மறைநூலில் எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கிறது.
