மறைவாய் உள்ளதைக் காணும் உங்கள் தந்தையும் உங்களுக்குக் கைம்மாறு அளிப்பார்.

✠ மத்தேயு எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 6: 1-6, 16-18

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “மக்கள் பார்க்க வேண்டுமென்று அவர்கள் முன் உங்கள் அறச் செயல்களைச் செய்யாதீர்கள். இதைக் குறித்து நீங்கள் எச்சரிக்கையாய் இருங்கள். இல்லையென்றால் உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையிடமிருந்து உங்களுக்குக் கைம்மாறு கிடைக்காது.

நீங்கள் தர்மம் செய்யும்போது உங்களைப்பற்றித் தம்பட்டம் அடிக்காதீர்கள். வெளிவேடக்காரர் மக்கள் புகழ வேண்டுமென்று தொழுகைக்கூடங்களிலும் சந்துகளிலும் நின்று அவ்வாறு செய்வர். அவர்கள் தங்களுக்குரிய கைம்மாறு பெற்றுவிட்டார்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். நீங்கள் தர்மம் செய்யும்போது, உங்கள் வலக் கை செய்வது இடக் கைக்குத் தெரியாதிருக்கட்டும். அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் செய்யும் தர்மம் மறைவாயிருக்கும்; மறைவாய் உள்ளதைக் காணும் உங்கள் தந்தையும் உங்களுக்குக் கைம்மாறு அளிப்பார்.

நீங்கள் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும்பொழுது வெளிவேடக்காரரைப் போல் இருக்க வேண்டாம். அவர்கள் தொழுகைக்கூடங்களிலும் வீதியோரங்களிலும் நின்றுகொண்டு மக்கள் பார்க்க வேண்டுமென இறைவேண்டல் செய்ய விரும்புகிறார்கள். அவர்கள் தங்களுக்குரிய கைம்மாறு பெற்றுவிட்டார்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

ஆனால் நீங்கள் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும் பொழுது உங்கள் உள்ளறைக்குச் சென்று, கதவை அடைத்துக்கொண்டு, மறைவாய் உள்ள உங்கள் தந்தையை நோக்கி வேண்டுங்கள். மறைவாய் உள்ளதைக் காணும் உங்கள் தந்தையும் உங்களுக்குக் கைம்மாறு அளிப்பார்.

மேலும் நீங்கள் நோன்பு இருக்கும்போது வெளிவேடக்காரரைப் போல முகவாட்டமாய் இருக்க வேண்டாம். தாங்கள் நோன்பு இருப்பதை மக்கள் பார்க்க வேண்டுமென்றே அவர்கள் தங்கள் முகங்களை விகாரப்படுத்திக் கொள்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் தங்களுக்குரிய கைம்மாறு பெற்று விட்டார்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். நீங்கள் நோன்பு இருக்கும்போது உங்கள் தலையில் எண்ணெய் தேய்த்து, முகத்தைக் கழுவுங்கள், அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் நோன்பு இருப்பது மனிதருக்குத் தெரியாது; மாறாக, மறைவாய் இருக்கிற உங்கள் தந்தைக்கு மட்டும் தெரியும். மறைவாய் உள்ளதைக் காணும் உங்கள் தந்தையும் உங்களுக்கு ஏற்ற கைம்மாறு அளிப்பார்.”

ஆண்டவர் எலியாவைச் சுழற்காற்றில் விண்ணுக்கு எடுத்துக் கொள்ள இருந்த பொழுது, எலியாவும் எலிசாவும் கில்காலிலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றனர். மீண்டும் எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி, “ஆண்டவர் என்னை யோர்தானுக்கு அனுப்பியுள்ளார். எனவே நீ இங்கேயே தங்கியிரு” என்றார். அதற்கு அவர், “வாழும் ஆண்டவர் மேல் ஆணை! உம் உயிர் மேலும் ஆணை! நான் உம்மை விட்டுப் பிரியமாட்டேன்” என்றார். ஆகவே அவர்கள் இருவரும் தொடர்ந்து பயணம் செய்தனர். அவர்கள் யோர்தான் நதிக் கரையை அடைந்து அங்கே நின்றனர். அவர்களைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து சென்ற இறைவாக்கினர் குழுவினர் ஐம்பது பேரும் சற்றுத் தொலையில் நின்று கொண்டனர்.

அப்பொழுது, எலியா தம் போர்வையை எடுத்துச் சுருட்டி அதைக் கொண்டு நீரை அடித்தார். தண்ணீர் இருபுறமும் பிரிந்துகொள்ள, இருவரும் உலர்ந்த தரைமீது நடந்து நதியைக் கடந்தனர். அவர்கள் அக்கரைக்குச் சென்றவுடன் எலியா எலிசாவை நோக்கி, “உன்னிடமிருந்து எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்படுமுன் நான் உனக்கு என்ன செய்யவேண்டும் என்று சொல்” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு எலிசா, “உமது ஆவி என்மீது இரு மடங்காக இருப்பதாக!” என்றார். எலியா அவரை நோக்கி, “நீ கேட்பது கடினமான காரியம். உன்னிடமிருந்து நான் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளப்படும் போது, நீ என்னைக் காண்பாயாகில், அது உனக்குக் கிடைக்கும்; இல்லையெனில் கிடைக்காது” என்றார்.

இவர்கள் இவ்வாறு உரையாடிக் கொண்டு வழிநடந்து செல்கையில், இதோ! நெருப்புத் தேரும் நெருப்புக் குதிரைகளும் திடீரென நடுவே வந்து அவர்களைப் பிரித்தன. எலியா சுழற்காற்றில் விண்ணகத்துக்குச் சென்றார். எலிசா அதைக் கண்டு, “என் தந்தாய்! என் தந்தாய்! இஸ்ரயேலின் தேரே! அந்தத் தேரின் பாகனே!” என்று கதறினார். அதற்கு மேல் அவரால் அவரைக் காண முடியவில்லை. எனவே அவர் தம் உடைகளைப் பிடித்து இரண்டாகக் கிழித்துக் கொண்டார்.

மேலும் அவர் எலியாவிடமிருந்து விழுந்த போர்வையை எடுத்துக் கொண்டு, திரும்பிச் சென்று யோர்தான் கரையில் நின்றார். பின்பு அவர், “எலியாவின் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் எங்கே இருக்கிறார்?” என்று சொல்லிக்கொண்டே எலியாவிடமிருந்து விழுந்த போர்வையினால் தண்ணீரை அடித்தார். அப்படி அடித்தவுடன் தண்ணீர் இரண்டாகப் பிரிய, எலிசா அக்கரைக்குச் சென்றார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 6: 1-6,16-18.

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Beware of practising your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

A Reading from the Second Book of Kings 2 :1,6-14

Now when the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. [They came to Jericho, and] Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on. Fifty men of the sons of the prophets also went and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.” And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.” And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over.
