அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர் பன்னிருவரையும் தம்மிடம் வரவழைத்தார். தீய ஆவிகளை ஓட்டவும், நோய்நொடிகளைக் குணமாக்கவும் அவர்களுக்கு அதிகாரம் அளித்தார்.

அத்திருத்தூதர் பன்னிருவரின் பெயர்கள் பின்வருமாறு: முதலாவது பேதுரு என்னும் சீமோன், அடுத்து அவருடைய சகோதரர் அந்திரேயா, செபதேயுவின் மகன் யாக்கோபு, அவருடைய சகோதரர் யோவான், பிலிப்பு, பர்த்தலமேயு, தோமா, வரிதண்டினவராகிய மத்தேயு, அல்பேயுவின் மகன் யாக்கோபு, ததேயு, தீவிரவாதியாய் இருந்த சீமோன், இயேசுவைக் காட்டிக் கொடுத்த யூதாசு இஸ்காரியோத்து.

இயேசு இந்தப் பன்னிருவரையும் அனுப்பியபோது அவர்களுக்கு அறிவுரையாகக் கூறியது: “பிற இனத்தாரின் எப்பகுதிக்கும் செல்ல வேண்டாம். சமாரியாவின் நகர் எதிலும் நுழைய வேண்டாம். மாறாக, வழி தவறிப்போன ஆடுகளான இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களிடமே செல்லுங்கள். அப்படிச் செல்லும்போது ‘விண்ணரசு நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது’ எனப் பறைசாற்றுங்கள்.”

இஸ்ரயேல் தழைத்து வளர்ந்த திராட்சைக் கொடி, அது மிகுதியான கனிகளைத் தனக்கே தாங்கி நிற்கின்றது; எவ்வளவு மிகுதியாகக் கனிகளைக் கொடுத்ததோ, அவ்வளவு மிகுதியாய்ப் பலிபீடங்களை அமைத்தது; எத்தகைய சிறப்புடன் நாடு செழிப்புற்றதோ, அதற்கு இணையாய்ச் சிலைத் தூண்கள் சிறப்புப் பெற்றன. இருமனம் கொண்ட மக்களாகிய அவர்கள், தங்கள் குற்றத்திற்காகத் தண்டனை பெறுவார்கள்; ஆண்டவர் அவர்களுடைய பலிபீடங்களைத் தகர்த்திடுவார்; அவர்களுடைய சிலைத் தூண்களை நொறுக்கிடுவார். அப்போது அவர்கள், “நமக்கு அரசன் இல்லை; ஆண்டவருக்கு நாம் அஞ்சி நடக்கவில்லை; அரசன் இருந்தாலும், நமக்கு என்ன செய்வான்?” என்பார்கள்.

சமாரியாவின் அரசன் நீர்மேல் குமிழிபோல் அழிந்து போவான். இஸ்ரயேலின் பாவமாகிய சிலைவழிபாட்டின் உயர்ந்த இடமெல்லாம் அழிக்கப்படும்; முள்களும், முட்புதர்களும் அவற்றின் பலிபீடங்கள்மேல் வளரும்; அப்போது அவர்கள் மலைகளைப் பார்த்து ‘எங்களை மூடிக்கொள்ளுங்கள்,’ குன்றுகளைப் பார்த்து ‘எங்கள்மேல் விழுங்கள்’ என்று சொல்வார்கள்.

நீதியை நீங்கள் விதைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள்; அன்பின் கனியை அறுவடை செய்யுங்கள்; உங்கள் தரிசு நிலத்தை உழுது பண்படுத்துங்கள்; ஏனெனில் ஆண்டவர் வந்து உங்கள்மேல் நேர்மையைப் பொழியுமாறு நீங்கள் அவரைத் தேடும் காலம் நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது.

At that time: Jesus called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”

Seek integrity and reap a harvest of kindness.

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Hosea 10: 1-3,7-8,12.

Israel is a luxuriant vine that yields its fruit. The more his fruit increased, the more altars he built; as his country improved, he improved his pillars. Their heart is false; now they must bear their guilt. The Lord will break down their altars and destroy their pillars. For now they will say: “We have no king, for we do not fear the Lord; and a king, what could he do for us?” Samaria’s king shall perish, like a twig on the face of the waters. The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed. Thorn and thistle shall grow up on their altars, and they shall say to the mountains, “Cover us,” and to the hills, “Fall on us.” Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.
