அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: நீங்கள் சென்று ‘விண்ணரசு நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது’ எனப் பறைசாற்றுங்கள். நலம் குன்றியவர்களைக் குணமாக்குங்கள்; இறந்தோரை உயிர் பெற்றெழச் செய்யுங்கள்; தொழுநோயாளரை நலமாக்குங்கள்; பேய்களை ஓட்டுங்கள்; கொடையாகப் பெற்றீர்கள்; கொடையாகவே வழங்குங்கள். பொன், வெள்ளி, செப்புக்காசு எதையும் உங்கள் இடைக் கச்சைகளில் வைத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டாம். பயணத்திற்காகப் பையோ, இரண்டு அங்கிகளோ, மிதியடிகளோ, கைத்தடியோ எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போக வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் வேலையாள் தம் உணவுக்கு உரிமை உடையவரே.

நீங்கள் எந்த நகருக்கோ ஊருக்கோ சென்றாலும் அங்கே உங்களை ஏற்கத் தகுதியுடையவர் யாரெனக் கேட்டறியுங்கள். அங்கிருந்து புறப்படும்வரை அவரோடு தங்கியிருங்கள். அந்த வீட்டுக்குள் செல்லும்பொழுதே, வீட்டாருக்கு வாழ்த்துக் கூறுங்கள். வீட்டார் தகுதி உள்ளவராய் இருந்தால், நீங்கள் வாழ்த்திக் கூறிய அமைதி அவர்கள் மேல் தங்கட்டும்; அவர்கள் தகுதியற்றவர்களாய் இருந்தால் அது உங்களிடமே திரும்பி வரட்டும்.

உங்களை எவராவது ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளாமலோ, நீங்கள் அறிவித்தவற்றுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்காமலோ இருந்தால் அவரது வீட்டை, அல்லது நகரை விட்டு வெளியேறும் பொழுது உங்கள் கால்களில் படிந்துள்ள தூசியை உதறிவிடுங்கள். தீர்ப்பு நாளில் சோதோம் கொமோராப் பகுதிகளுக்குக் கிடைக்கும் தண்டனையை விட அந்நகருக்குக் கிடைக்கும் தண்டனை கடினமாகவே இருக்கும் என நான் உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

ஆண்டவர் கூறியது:

இஸ்ரயேல் குழந்தையாய் இருந்தபோது அவன்மேல் அன்பு கூர்ந்தேன்; எகிப்திலிருந்து என் மகனை அழைத்து வந்தேன். எவ்வளவுக்கு நான் அவர்களை வருந்தி அழைத்தேனோ, அவ்வளவுக்கு என்னை விட்டுப் பிடிவாதமாய் விலகிப் போனார்கள். பாகால்களுக்குப் பலியிட்டார்கள், சிலைகளுக்குத் தூபம் காட்டினார்கள்.

ஆனால் எப்ராயிமுக்கு நடைபயிற்றுவித்தது நானே; அவர்களைக் கையிலேந்தியதும் நானே; ஆயினும், அவர்களைக் குணமாக்கியது நானே என்பதை அவர்கள் உணராமற் போனார்கள். பரிவு என்னும் கட்டுகளால் அவர்களைப் பிணைத்து, அன்புக் கயிறுகளால் கட்டி நடத்தி வந்தேன்; அவர்கள் கழுத்தின்மேல் இருந்த நுகத்தை அகற்றினேன்; அவர்கள் பக்கம் சாய்ந்து உணவு ஊட்டினேன்.

At that time: Jesus said to his apostles, “Proclaim as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay. Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, no bag for your journey, or two tunics or sandals or a staff, for the labourer deserves his food. And whatever town or village you enter, find out who is worthy in it and stay there until you depart. As you enter the house, greet it. And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your feet when you leave that house or town. Truly, I say to you, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.”

I am the Holy One in your midst and have no wish to destroy

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Hosea 11:1-4, 8c-9

Thus says the Lord: When Israel was a child I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son. The more they were called, the more they went away; they kept sacrificing to the Baals and burning offerings to idols. Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk; I took them up by their arms, but they did not know that I healed them. I led them with cords of kindness, with the bands of love, and I became to them as one who eases the yoke on their jaws, and I bent down to them and fed them. My heart recoils within me; my compassion grows warm and tender. I will not execute my burning anger; I will not again destroy Ephraim; for I am God and not a man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath.
