You have hidden these things from the wise and revealed them to little children

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 11: 25-27

At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

They crush your people, Lord; and they humble your inheritance. They kill the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless child.

And they say, “The Lord does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed.” Mark this, you senseless people; fools, when will you understand?

Can he who planted the ear not hear? Can he who formed the eye not see? Will he who trains the nations not punish? Will he who teaches man not have knowledge?

The Lord will not abandon his people, nor forsake those who are his heritage; for judgment shall again be just, and all true hearts shall uphold it.

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah 10: 5-7,13-16

Thus says the Lord: Woe to Assyria, the rod of my anger; the staff in their hands is my fury! Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I commend him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. But he does not so intend, and his heart does not so think; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few; For he says: “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I have understanding; I remove the boundaries of peoples, and plunder their treasures; like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones. My hand has found like a nest the wealth of the peoples; and as one gathers eggs that have been forsaken, so I have gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved a wing or opened the mouth or chirped.” Shall the axe boast over him who hews with it, or the saw magnify itself against him who wields it? As if a rod should wield him who lifts it, or as if a staff should lift him who is not wood! Therefore the Lord God of hosts will send wasting sickness among his stout warriors, and under his glory a burning will be kindled, like the burning of fire.

இயேசு கூறியது: “தந்தையே, விண்ணுக்கும் மண்ணுக்கும் ஆண்டவரே, உம்மைப் போற்றுகிறேன். ஏனெனில் ஞானிகளுக்கும் அறிஞர்களுக்கும் இவற்றை மறைத்துக் குழந்தைகளுக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தினீர். ஆம் தந்தையே, இதுவே உமது திருவுளம்.

என் தந்தை எல்லாவற்றையும் என்னிடத்தில் ஒப்படைத்திருக்கிறார். தந்தையைத் தவிர வேறு எவரும் மகனை அறியார்; மகனும் அவர் யாருக்கு வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டுமென்று விரும்புகிறாரோ அவருமன்றி வேறு எவரும் தந்தையை அறியார்” என்று கூறினார்.

ஆண்டவரே! அவர்கள் உம் மக்களை நசுக்குகின்றனர்; உமது உரிமைச் சொத்தான அவர்களை ஒடுக்குகின்றனர்.

கைம்பெண்டிரையும் அன்னியரையும் அவர்கள் வெட்டி வீழ்த்துகின்றனர்; திக்கற்றவரை அவர்கள் கொலை செய்கின்றனர். - பல்லவி

‘ஆண்டவர் இதைக் கண்டுகொள்வதில்லை; யாக்கோபின் கடவுள் கவனிப்பதில்லை’ என்கின்றனர்.

ஆண்டவர் கூறியது:

அசீரிய நாடு! சினத்தில் நான் பயன்படுத்தும் கோல் அது; தண்டனை வழங்க நான் ஏந்தும் தடி அது. இறைப் பற்றில்லா நாட்டினர்க்கு அந்நாட்டை நான் அனுப்புகிறேன்; எனக்குச் சினமூட்டின மக்களை நொறுக்க அதற்கு ஆணை கொடுக்கிறேன்; அம்மக்களைக் கொள்ளையிடவும் அவர்கள் பொருள்களைச் சூறையாடவும், தெருவில் கிடக்கும் சேற்றைப்போல அவர்களை மிதித்துப் போடவும், அதற்குக் கட்டளை தருகிறேன். அசீரிய அரசன் நினைப்பதோ வேறு, அவனது உள்ளத்தில் எழும் திட்டங்கள் வேறு; மக்களினங்கள் அழிந்து நாசமாவதைத் தன் இதயத்தில் எண்ணுகிறான்; பல்வேறு இனத்தாரையும் வெட்டி வீழ்த்த அவன் விரும்புகிறான்.

ஏனெனில் அவன் இவ்வாறு சொன்னான்: “என் கை வலிமையாலே நான் அதைச் செய்து முடித்தேன்; என் ஞானத்தாலும் அறிவுக் கூர்மை யாலும் அதற்குத் திட்டங்கள் தீட்டினேன்; மக்களினங்கள் தங்களிடையே வைத்துள்ள எல்லைகளை அகற்றினேன்; அவர்களுடைய கருவூலங்களைச் சூறையாடினேன்; அரியணையில் வீற்றிருந்தோரை ஒரு காளை மிதிப்பதுபோல் மிதித்துப்போட்டேன். குருவிக் கூட்டைக் கண்டு பிடிப்பதுபோல் என் கை மக்களினங்களின் செல்வங்களைக் கண்டு எடுத்துக்கொண்டது; புறக்கணித்த முட்டைகளை ஒருவன் பொறுக்கி எடுப்பதுபோல் நாடுகள் யாவற்றையும் ஒருங்கே சேர்த்துக்கொண்டேன். எனக்கெதிராக ஒருவரும் இறக்கை அடிக்கவில்லை. வாய் திறக்கவில்லை, கீச்சென்ற ஒலியெழுப்பவுமில்லை."

வெட்டப் பயன்படுத்துகிறவனுக்கு மேலாகக் கோடரி தன்னை மேன்மை பாராட்டுவதுண்டோ? அறுப்பவனைவிடத் தன்னைச் சிறப்பு மிக்கதாக வாள் கருத இயலுமோ? தன்னைத் தூக்கியவனைச் சுழற்றி வீசக் கைத் தடியால் கூடுமோ? மரம் அல்லாத மனிதனைத் தூக்க மரத்தால் ஆன கோலால் இயலுமோ?

ஆதலால் தலைவராகிய படைகளின் ஆண்டவர் பாழாக்கும் கொள்ளை நோயை அவனுடைய கொழுத்த வீரர்கள்மேல் அனுப்புவார்; அவனது மேன்மையின்கீழ் தீ ஒன்றை வைப்பார்; அவர் நெருப்பு மூட்டுவார்; அது கொழுந்துவிட்டு எரியும்.
