The man who hears the word and understands it yields a rich harvest.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 13:18-23

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

“Hear the word of the Lord, O nations, and declare it in the coastlands far away; say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock.

For the Lord has ransomed Jacob and has redeemed him from hands too strong for him. They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Sion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the Lord.

Then shall the young women rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old shall be merry. I will turn their mourning into joy; I will comfort them, and give them gladness for sorrow.

Come back, my disloyal children.

A Reading frim the book of the Prophet Jeremiah 3:14-17

Return, O faithless children, declares the Lord; for I am your master; I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Sion. “‘And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding. And when you have multiplied and been fruitful in the land, in those days, declares the Lord, they shall no more say, “The ark of the covenant of the Lord.” It shall not come to mind or be remembered or missed; it shall not be made again. At that time Jerusalem shall be called the throne of the Lord, and all nations shall gather to it, to the presence of the Lord in Jerusalem, and they shall no more stubbornly follow their own evil heart.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடருக்குக் கூறியது: “விதைப்பவர் உவமையைப் பற்றிக் கேளுங்கள்: வழியோரம் விதைக்கப்பட்ட விதைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானோர் இறையாட்சியைக் குறித்த இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்டும் புரிந்து கொள்ளமாட்டார்கள். அவர்கள் உள்ளத்தில் விதைக்கப்பட்ட விதைகளைத் தீயோன் கைப்பற்றிச் செல்வான்.

பாறைப் பகுதிகளில் விதைக்கப்பட்ட விதைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானோர் இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்டவுடன் அதை மகிழ்ச்சியோடு ஏற்றுக் கொள்வார்கள். ஆனால், அவர்கள் வேரற்றவர்கள். எனவே அவர்கள் சிறிது காலமே நிலைத்திருப்பார்கள்; இறைவார்த்தையின் பொருட்டு வேதனையோ இன்னலோ நேர்ந்த உடனே தடுமாற்றம் அடைவார்கள்.

முட்செடிகளுக்கு இடையில் விழுந்த விதைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானோர் இறை வார்த்தையைக் கேட்டும் உலகக் கவலையும் செல்வ மாயையும் அவ்வார்த்தையை நெருக்கிவிடுவதால் பயன் அளிக்கமாட்டார்கள்.

நல்ல நிலத்தில் விதைக்கப்பட்ட விதைகளுக்கு ஒப்பானோர் இறைவார்த்தையைக் கேட்டுப் புரிந்துகொள்வார்கள். இவர்களுள் சிலர் நூறு மடங்காகவும், சிலர் அறுபது மடங்காகவும், சிலர் முப்பது மடங்காகவும் பயன் அளிப்பர்.”

மக்களே! என்னிடம் திரும்பி வாருங்கள்; ஏனெனில், நானே உங்கள் தலைவன்; நகருக்கு ஒருவனையும் குடும்பத்திற்கு இருவரையுமாகத் தெரிந்தெடுத்து உங்களைச் சீயோனுக்குக் கூட்டி வருவேன். என் இதயத்திற்கேற்ற மேய்ப்பர்களை உங்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பேன். அவர்கள் உங்களை அறிவுடனும் முன்மதியுடனும் வழிநடத்துவார்கள்.

நீங்கள் நாட்டில் பல்கிப் பெருகும் அக்காலத்தில் யாரும் ஆண்டவரின் உடன்படிக்கைப் பேழை பற்றியே பேசமாட்டார்கள். அது அவர்கள் எண்ணத்திலோ நினைவிலோ இராது. அது இல்லை என்று வருந்தி இனி ஒன்றும் செய்யமாட்டார்கள், என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர்.

அக்காலத்தில் எருசலேமை ‘ஆண்டவரின் அரியணை’ என அழைப்பார்கள். ஆண்டவரின் பெயரை முன்னிட்டு எல்லா மக்களினத்தாரும் எருசலேமில் வந்து கூடுவர். தங்கள் தீய இதயப் பிடிவாதத்தின்படி இனி நடக்க மாட்டார்கள்.
