அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு, பிலிப்புச் செசாரியா பகுதிக்குச் சென்றார். அவர் தம் சீடரை நோக்கி, “மானிட மகன் யாரென்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு அவர்கள், “சிலர் திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் எனவும் வேறு சிலர் எலியா எனவும் மற்றும் சிலர் எரேமியா அல்லது பிற இறைவாக்கினருள் ஒருவர் என்றும் சொல்கின்றனர்” என்றார்கள்.

“ஆனால் நீங்கள், நான் யார் எனச் சொல்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று அவர் கேட்டார். சீமோன் பேதுரு மறுமொழியாக, “நீர் மெசியா, வாழும் கடவுளின் மகன்” என்று உரைத்தார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு, “யோனாவின் மகனான சீமோனே, நீ பேறுபெற்றவன். ஏனெனில் எந்த மனிதரும் இதை உனக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தவில்லை; மாறாக விண்ணகத்திலுள்ள என் தந்தையே வெளிப்படுத்தியுள்ளார். எனவே நான் உனக்குக் கூறுகிறேன்: உன் பெயர் பேதுரு; இந்தப் பாறையின் மேல் என் திருச்சபையைக் கட்டுவேன். பாதாளத்தின் வாயில்கள் அதன்மேல் வெற்றிகொள்ளா. விண்ணரசின் திறவுகோல்களை நான் உன்னிடம் தருவேன். மண்ணுலகில் நீ தடைசெய்வது விண்ணுலகிலும் தடை செய்யப்படும். மண்ணுலகில் நீ அனுமதிப்பது விண்ணுலகிலும் அனுமதிக்கப்படும்” என்றார்.

பின்னர், தாம் மெசியா என்பதை எவரிடமும் சொல்ல வேண்டாம் என்று இயேசு சீடரிடம் கண்டிப்பாய்க் கூறினார்.

For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and for evermore. ஆறாம் மாதத்தில் கபிரியேல் என்னும் வானதூதரைக் கடவுள் கலிலேயாவிலுள்ள நாசரேத்து என்னும் ஊரிலிருந்த ஒரு கன்னியிடம் அனுப்பினார். அவர் தாவீது குடும்பத்தினராகிய யோசேப்பு என்னும் பெயருடைய ஒருவருக்கு மண ஒப்பந்தமானவர். அவர் பெயர் மரியா.

வானதூதர் மரியாவுக்குத் தோன்றி, “அருள்மிகப் பெற்றவரே வாழ்க! ஆண்டவர் உம்மோடு இருக்கிறார்” என்றார். இவ்வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டு அவர் கலங்கி, இந்த வாழ்த்து எத்தகையதோ என்று எண்ணிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

வானதூதர் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “மரியா, அஞ்சவேண்டாம்; கடவுளின் அருளைக் கண்டடைந்துள்ளீர். இதோ, கருவுற்று ஒரு மகனைப் பெறுவீர்; அவருக்கு இயேசு என்னும் பெயரிடுவீர். அவர் பெரியவராயிருப்பார்; உன்னத கடவுளின் மகன் எனப்படுவார். அவருடைய தந்தை தாவீதின் அரியணையை ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள் அவருக்கு அளிப்பார். அவர் யாக்கோபின் குடும்பத்தின் மீது என்றென்றும் ஆட்சி செலுத்துவார். அவருடைய ஆட்சிக்கு முடிவே இராது” என்றார்.

அதற்கு மரியா வானதூதரிடம், “இது எப்படி நிகழும்? நான் கன்னி ஆயிற்றே!” என்றார்.

வானதூதர் அவரிடம், “தூய ஆவி உம்மீது வரும். உன்னத கடவுளின் வல்லமை உம்மேல் நிழலிடும். ஆதலால் உம்மிடம் பிறக்கப் போகும் குழந்தை தூயது. அக்குழந்தை இறைமகன் எனப்படும். உம் உறவினராகிய எலிசபெத்தும் தம் முதிர்ந்த வயதில் ஒரு மகனைக் கருத்தரித்திருக்கிறார். கருவுற இயலாதவர் என்று சொல்லப்பட்ட அவருக்கு இது ஆறாம் மாதம். ஏனெனில், கடவுளால் இயலாதது ஒன்றுமில்லை” என்றார்.

பின்னர் மரியா, “நான் ஆண்டவரின் அடிமை; உம்சொற்படியே எனக்கு நிகழட்டும்” என்றார். அப்பொழுது வானதூதர் அவரை விட்டு அகன்றார்.

ஏனெனில், ஒரு குழந்தை நமக்குப் பிறந்துள்ளார்; ஓர் ஆண்மகவு நமக்குத் தரப்பட்டுள்ளார்; ஆட்சிப் பொறுப்பு அவர் தோள்மேல் இருக்கும்; அவர் திருப்பெயரோ ‘வியத்தகு ஆலோசகர், வலிமை மிகு இறைவன், என்றுமுள தந்தை, அமைதியின் அரசர்’ என்று அழைக்கப்படும்.

அவரது ஆட்சியின் உயர்வுக்கும் அமைதி நிலவும் அவரது அரசின் வளர்ச்சிக்கும் முடிவு இராது; தாவீதின் அரியணையில் அமர்ந்து தாவீதின் அரசை நிலைநாட்டுவார்; இன்றுமுதல் என்றென்றும் நீதியோடும் நேர்மையோடும் ஆட்சிபுரிந்து அதை நிலைபெயராது உறுதிப்படுத்துவார்; படைகளின் ஆண்டவரது பேரார்வம் இதைச் செய்து நிறைவேற்றும்.

இயேசு சதுசேயரை வாயடைக்கச் செய்தார் என்பதைக் கேள்விப்பட்ட பரிசேயர் ஒன்றுகூடி அவரிடம் வந்தனர். அவர்களிடையே இருந்த திருச்சட்ட அறிஞர் ஒருவர் அவரைச் சோதிக்கும் நோக்கத்துடன், “போதகரே, திருச்சட்ட நூலில் தலைசிறந்த கட்டளை எது?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அவர் என்னிடம் உரைத்தது: நீ இந்த எலும்புகளுக்கு இறைவாக்கு உரை. ‘உலர்ந்த எலும்புகளே! ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கைக் கேளுங்கள்’ என்று சொல். தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் இந்த எலும்புகளுக்கு இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார்: நான் உங்களுக்குள் உயிர்மூச்சு புகச் செய்வேன். நீங்களும் உயிர் பெறுவீர்கள். நான் உங்களை நரம்புகளால் தொடுப்பேன்; உங்கள்மேல் சதையைப் பரப்புவேன். உங்களைத் தோலால் மூடுவேன். பின் உங்களுக்குள் உயிர்மூச்சு புகச் செய்வேன். நீங்களும் உயிர் பெறுவீர்கள். அப்போது நானே ஆண்டவர் என அறிந்துகொள்வீர்கள்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு மீண்டும் உவமைகள் வாயிலாகப் பேசியது: “விண்ணரசைப் பின்வரும் நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு ஒப்பிடலாம்: அரசர் ஒருவர் தம் மகனுக்குத் திருமணம் நடத்தினார். திருமணத்திற்கு அழைப்புப் பெற்றவர்களைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு வருமாறு அவர் தம் பணியாளர்களை அனுப்பினார். அவர்களோ வர விரும்பவில்லை.

மீண்டும் அவர் வேறு பணியாளர்களிடம், ‘நான் விருந்து ஏற்பாடு செய்திருக்கிறேன். காளைகளையும் கொழுத்த கன்றுகளையும் அடித்துச் சமையல் எல்லாம் தயாராய் உள்ளது. திருமணத்திற்கு வாருங்கள்’ என அழைப்புப் பெற்றவர்களுக்குக் கூறுங்கள் என்று சொல்லி அனுப்பினார். அழைப்புப் பெற்றவர்களோ அதைப் பொருட்படுத்தவில்லை. ஒருவர் தம் வயலுக்குச் சென்றார்; வேறு ஒருவர் தம் கடைக்குச் சென்றார். மற்றவர்களோ அவருடைய பணியாளர்களைப் பிடித்து இழிவுபடுத்திக் கொலை செய்தார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது அரசர் சினமுற்றுத் தம் படையை அனுப்பி அக்கொலையாளிகளைக் கொன்றொழித்தார். அவர்களுடைய நகரத்தையும் தீக்கிரையாக்கினார்.

பின்னர் தம் பணியாளர்களிடம், ‘திருமண விருந்து ஏற்பாடாகி உள்ளது. அழைக்கப் பெற்றவர்களோ தகுதியற்றுப் போனார்கள். எனவே நீங்கள் போய்ச் சாலையோரங்களில் காணும் எல்லாரையும் திருமண விருந்துக்கு அழைத்து வாருங்கள்’ என்றார். அந்தப் பணியாளர்கள் வெளியே சென்று வழியில் கண்ட நல்லோர், தீயோர் யாவரையும் கூட்டி வந்தனர். திருமண மண்டபம் விருந்தினரால் நிரம்பியது. அரசர் விருந்தினரைப் பார்க்க வந்தபோது அங்கே திருமண ஆடை அணியாத ஒருவனைக் கண்டார்.

அரசர் அவனைப் பார்த்து, ‘தோழா, திருமண ஆடையின்றி எவ்வாறு உள்ளே வந்தாய்?’ என்று கேட்டார். அவனோ வாயடைத்து நின்றான். அப்போது அரசர் தம் பணியாளர்களிடம், ‘அவனுடைய காலையும் கையையும் கட்டிப் புறம்பே உள்ள இருளில் தள்ளுங்கள். அங்கே அழுகையும் அங்கலாய்ப்பும் இருக்கும்’ என்றார்.

இவ்வாறு அழைப்புப் பெற்றவர்கள் பலர், ஆனால் தெரிந்தெடுக்கப்பட்டவர்களோ சிலர்.”

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 20:1-16a

At that time: Jesus told his disciples this parable: “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire labourers for his vineyard. After agreeing with the labourers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market-place, and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the labourers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’ So the last will be first.”

The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord God: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep? You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep. The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the injured you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them. So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and they became food for all the wild beasts. My sheep were scattered; they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with none to search or seek for them. “Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: As I live, declares the Lord God, surely because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep, therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: Thus says the Lord God, Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my sheep at their hand and put a stop to their feeding the sheep. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கூறியது: “விண்ணரசைப் பின்வரும் நிகழ்ச்சிக்கு ஒப்பிடலாம்: நிலக்கிழார் ஒருவர் தம் வேலையாள்களை வேலைக்கு அமர்த்த விடியற்காலையில் வெளியே சென்றார். அவர் நாளொன்றுக்கு ஒரு தெனாரியம் கூலி என வேலையாள்களுடன் ஒத்துக்கொண்டு அவர்களைத் தம் திராட்சைத் தோட்டத்துக்கு அனுப்பினார்.

ஏறக்குறைய காலை ஒன்பது மணிக்கு அவர் வெளியே சென்றபொழுது சந்தை வெளியில் வேறு சிலர் வேலையின்றி நிற்பதைக் கண்டார். அவர்களிடம், ‘நீங்களும் என் திராட்சைத் தோட்டத்துக்குப் போங்கள்; நேர்மையான கூலியை உங்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பேன்’ என்றார். அவர்களும் சென்றார்கள். மீண்டும் ஏறக்குறைய பன்னிரண்டு மணிக்கும் பிற்பகல் மூன்று மணிக்கும் வெளியே சென்று அப்படியே செய்தார்.

ஏறக்குறைய ஐந்து மணிக்கும் வெளியே சென்று வேறு சிலர் நிற்பதைக் கண்டார். அவர்களிடம், ‘நாள் முழுவதும் வேலை செய்யாமல் ஏன் இங்கே நின்றுகொண்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்?’ என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்து, ‘எங்களை எவரும் வேலைக்கு அமர்த்தவில்லை’ என்றார்கள். அவர் அவர்களிடம், ‘நீங்களும் என் திராட்சைத் தோட்டத்துக்குப் போங்கள்’ என்றார்.

மாலையானதும் திராட்சைத் தோட்ட உரிமையாளர் தம் மேற்பார்வையாளரிடம், ‘வேலையாள்களை அழைத்துக் கடைசியில் வந்தவர் தொடங்கி முதலில் வந்தவர்வரை அவர்களுக்குரிய கூலி கொடும்’ என்றார். எனவே ஐந்து மணியளவில் வந்தவர்கள் ஒரு தெனாரியம் வீதம் பெற்றுக் கொண்டனர். அப்போது முதலில் வந்தவர்கள் தங்களுக்கு மிகுதியாகக் கிடைக்கும் என்று எண்ணினார்கள். ஆனால் அவர்களும் ஒரு தெனாரியம் வீதம்தான் பெற்றார்கள்.

அவர்கள் அதைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டபோது அந்நிலக்கிழாருக்கு எதிராக முணுமுணுத்து, ‘கடைசியில் வந்த இவர்கள் ஒரு மணி நேரமே வேலை செய்தார்கள். பகல் முழுவதும் வேலைப் பளுவையும் கடும் வெயிலையும் தாங்கிய எங்களோடு இவர்களையும் இணையாக்கிவிட்டீரே’ என்றார்கள். அவரோ அவர்களுள் ஒருவரைப் பார்த்து, ‘தோழரே, நான் உமக்கு அநியாயம் செய்யவில்லை. நீர் என்னிடம் ஒரு தெனாரியம் கூலிக்கு ஒத்துக்கொள்ளவில்லையா? உமக்குரியதைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டு போய்விடும். உமக்குக் கொடுத்தபடியே கடைசியில் வந்த இவருக்கும் கொடுப்பது என் விருப்பம். எனக்குரியதை நான் என் விருப்பப்படி கொடுக்கக் கூடாதா? அல்லது நான் நல்லவனாய் இருப்பதால் உமக்குப் பொறாமையா?’ என்றார்.

இவ்வாறு கடைசியானோர் முதன்மையாவர். முதன்மையானோர் கடைசியாவர்.”

ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு எனக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. மானிடா! இஸ்ரயேலின் ஆயர்களுக்கு எதிராக இறைவாக்கு உரை. அவர்களுக்கு இறைவாக்கு உரைத்துச் சொல். தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே: தாங்களே மேய்ந்துகொள்ளும் இஸ்ரயேலின் ஆயர்களுக்கு ஐயோ கேடு! ஆயர்கள் மந்தையையன்றோ மேய்க்க வேண்டும்! நீங்கள் கொழுப்பானதை உண்டு, ஆட்டு மயிராடையை உடுத்தி, மந்தையில் சிறந்ததை அடிக்கிறீர்கள். மந்தையையோ மேய்ப்பதில்லை. நீங்கள் நலிந்தவற்றைத் திடப்படுத்தவில்லை; பிணியுற்றவற்றிற்குக் குணமளிக்கவில்லை. காயமுற்றவற்றிற்குக் கட்டுப்போடவில்லை; வழி தப்பியவற்றைத் திரும்பக் கூட்டி வரவில்லை. காணாமல் போனவற்றைத் தேடவில்லை. ஆனால், அவற்றைக் கொடுமையுடனும் வன்முறையுடனும் நடத்தினீர்கள். ஆயன் இல்லாமையால் அவை அலைந்து திரிந்தன. அப்போது எல்லாக் காட்டு விலங்குகளுக்கும் அவை இரையாயின. என் ஆடுகள் எல்லா மலைகளிலும் உயர்ந்த குன்றுகளிலும் அலைந்து திரிந்தன. பூவுலகில் எவ்விடத்திலும் என் மந்தை சிதறுண்டு போனது; அதைத் தேடவோ கூட்டிச் சேர்க்கவோ எவரும் இலர்.

எனவே ஆயர்களே, ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கைக் கேளுங்கள்: தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே: என் மேல் ஆணை! என் மந்தை கொள்ளையிடப்பட்டது; எல்லாக் காட்டு விலங்குகளுக்கும் இரையானது. ஏனெனில் அதற்கு ஆயன் இல்லை. என் ஆயர்கள் என் மந்தையைத் தேடவில்லை. என் மந்தையை அவர்கள் மேய்க்காமல் தாங்களே மேய்ந்துகொள்கிறார்கள்.

எனவே, ஆயர்களே! ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கைக் கேளுங்கள்: தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார்: நான் ஆயர்களுக்கு எதிராக இருக்கிறேன். என் மந்தையை அவர்களிடமிருந்து திரும்பப் பெற்றுக்கொள்வேன். மந்தை மேய்ப்பினின்று அவர்களை நீக்கி விடுவேன். எனவே தாங்களே மேய்ந்துகொள்ளும் அவர்கள் இனி என் மந்தையை மேய்க்க மாட்டார்கள். அவர்கள் வாயினின்று என் மந்தையை மீட்பேன். அவை இனி அவர்களுக்கு உணவாகா. எனவே, தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார்: நானே என் மந்தையைத் தேடிச்சென்று பேணிக் காப்பேன்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடரிடம், “செல்வர் விண்ணரசில் புகுவது கடினம் என நான் உங்களுக்கு உறுதியாகச் சொல்கிறேன். மீண்டும் உங்களுக்குக் கூறுகிறேன்: செல்வர் இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்படுவதை விட ஊசியின் காதில் ஒட்டகம் நுழைவது எளிது” என்றார்.

சீடர்கள் இதைக் கேட்டு, “அப்படியானால் யார்தாம் மீட்புப் பெற முடியும்?” என்று கூறி மிகவும் வியப்படைந்தார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களைக் கூர்ந்து நோக்கி, “மனிதரால் இது இயலாது. ஆனால் கடவுளால் எல்லாம் இயலும்” என்றார்.

அதன் பின்பு பேதுரு இயேசுவைப் பார்த்து, “நாங்கள் எல்லாவற்றையும் விட்டுவிட்டு உம்மைப் பின்பற்றியவர்களாயிற்றே; எங்களுக்கு என்ன கிடைக்கும்?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அதற்கு இயேசு, “புதுப் படைப்பின் நாளில் மானிட மகன் தமது மாட்சிமிகு அரியணையில் வீற்றிருப்பார். அப்போது என்னைப் பின்பற்றிய நீங்களும் இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களின் பன்னிரு குலத்தவர்க்கும் நடுவர்களாய்ப் பன்னிரு அரியணைகளில் வீற்றிருப்பீர்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன். மேலும் என் பெயரின் பொருட்டு வீடுகளையோ, சகோதரர்களையோ, சகோதரிகளையோ, தந்தையையோ, தாயையோ, பிள்ளைகளையோ, நில புலங்களையோ விட்டுவிட்ட எவரும் நூறு மடங்காகப் பெறுவர். நிலை வாழ்வையும் உரிமைப் பேறாக அடைவர்.

ஆனால் முதன்மையானோர் பலர் கடைசியாவர். கடைசியானோர் பலர் முதன்மையாவர்” என்று அவர்களிடம் கூறினார்.

ஆகவே, தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார்: கடவுளைப் போல் அறிவாளி என உன்னைக் கருதிக் கொள்வதால், மக்களினங்களில் மிகவும் கொடியோரான அன்னியரை உனக்கெதிராய் எழும்பச் செய்வேன்; அவர்கள் உன் அழகுக்கும் ஞானத்திற்கும் எதிராக உருவிய வாளுடன் வருவர்; உன் பெருமையைக் குலைப்பர். படுகுழியில் தள்ளுவர் உன்னை; கடல் நடுவே மூழ்கிச் சாவோரெனச் சாவாய் நீயே! அப்போது உன்னைக் கொல்வோரின் நடுவில் ‘நானே கடவுள்’ என்று சொல்வாயே? உன்னைக் குத்திக் கிழிப்போரின் கையில் நீ கடவுளாக அல்ல, மனிதனாகவே இருப்பாய். விருத்தசேதனம் செய்யப்படாதவனைப் போல் அன்னியர் கையால் நீ சாவாய். நானே உரைத்தேன் என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 19: 23-30 

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, only with difficulty will a rich person enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Then Peter said in reply, “See, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world, when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

I would have said, “I will cut them to pieces; I will wipe them from human memory,” had I not feared provocation by the enemy, lest their adversaries should misunderstand.

The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord God: “Because your heart is proud, and you have said, ‘I am a god, I sit in the seat of the gods, in the heart of the seas’, yet you are but a man, and no god, though you make your heart like the heart of a god— you are indeed wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you; by your wisdom and your understanding you have made wealth for yourself, and have gathered gold and silver into your treasuries; by your great wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth— therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you make your heart like the heart of a god, therefore, behold, I will bring foreigners upon you, the most ruthless of the nations; and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and defile your splendour. அந்த இளைஞர் அவரிடம், “இவை அனைத்தையும் நான் கடைப்பிடித்து வந்துள்ளேன். இன்னும் என்னிடம் குறைபடுவது என்ன?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு இயேசு, “நிறைவுள்ளவராக விரும்பினால் நீர் போய், உம் உடைமைகளை விற்று ஏழைகளுக்குக் கொடும். அப்பொழுது விண்ணகத்தில் நீர் செல்வராய் இருப்பீர். பின்பு வந்து என்னைப் பின்பற்றும்” என்றார்.

அவர் சொன்னதைக் கேட்ட அந்த இளைஞர் வருத்தத்தோடு சென்றுவிட்டார். ஏனெனில் அவருக்கு ஏராளமான சொத்து இருந்தது.

Sigh, but not aloud; make no mourning for the dead. Bind on your turban, and put your shoes on your feet; do not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.” So I spoke to the people in the morning, and at evening my wife died. And on the next morning I did as I was commanded. At that time: Jesus went away and withdrew to the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and was crying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely oppressed by a demon.” But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away, for she is crying out after us.” He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she came and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, help me.” And he answered, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” She said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered her, “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed instantly.

Brethren: Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous, and thus save some of them. For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead? For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தீர், சீதோன் ஆகிய பகுதிகளை நோக்கிச் சென்றார். அவற்றின் எல்லைப் பகுதியில் வாழ்ந்துவந்த கானானியப் பெண் ஒருவர் அவரிடம் வந்து, “ஐயா, தாவீதின் மகனே, எனக்கு இரங்கும்; என் மகள் பேய் பிடித்துக் கொடுமைக்குள்ளாகி இருக்கிறாள்” எனக் கதறினார். ஆனால் இயேசு அவரிடம் ஒரு வார்த்தைகூட மறுமொழியாகச் சொல்லவில்லை.

சீடர்கள் அவரை அணுகி, “நமக்குப் பின்னால் கத்திக்கொண்டு வருகிறாரே, இவரை அனுப்பிவிடும்” என வேண்டினர். அவரோ மறுமொழியாக, “இஸ்ரயேல் குலத்தாருள் காணாமற்போன ஆடுகளாய் இருப்போரிடமே நான் அனுப்பப்பட்டேன்” என்றார்.

ஆனால் அப்பெண் அவர்முன் வந்து பணிந்து, “ஐயா, எனக்கு உதவியருளும்” என்றார். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, “பிள்ளைகளுக்குரிய உணவை எடுத்து நாய்க் குட்டிகளுக்குப் போடுவது முறையல்ல” என்றார். உடனே அப்பெண், “ஆம் ஐயா, ஆனாலும் தங்கள் உரிமையாளரின் மேசையிலிருந்து விழும் சிறு துண்டுகளை நாய்க் குட்டிகள் தின்னுமே” என்றார். இயேசு மறுமொழியாக, “அம்மா, உமது நம்பிக்கை பெரிது. நீர் விரும்பியவாறே உமக்கு நிகழட்டும்” என்று அவரிடம் கூறினார். அந்நேரம் அவர் மகளின் பிணி நீங்கியது.
