"I entrust you to God, he who has the power to build the edifice and to give everyone the inheritance"
A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (20, 28-38)
In those days Paul bade farewell to the Elders of the Church in Ephesus. He said to them: "Watch over yourselves, and over all the flock for which the Holy Spirit has made you responsible, to be the shepherds of the Church of God, which he purchased with his own blood." Me, I know that after my departure, formidable wolves will enter your home and will not spare the flock. Even out of your midst, men will emerge who will speak perverse in order to lead the disciples to follow them. So be vigilant, and remember that, for three years, night and day, I have not ceased, in tears, to take each one of you. And now I entrust you to God and to the word of his grace, who has the power to build the edifice and to give each one the inheritance in the company of all those who have been sanctified. I did not covet anyone's silver, gold, or clothing. You yourselves know it well: these hands have provided for my needs and those of my companions. In all things, I have shown you that by thus giving oneself to the trouble, it is necessary to help the weak and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said: There is more happiness to give than to to receive. "
When Paul had said this, he knelt down and prayed with them all. All began to cry profusely; they threw themselves on Paul's neck and kissed him; what distressed them the most was the word he had said: "You will no longer see my face." Then they accompanied him to the boat.
The Word of the Lord.
