கடவுளுடைய அழைப்பு உங்களுக்கு எத்தகைய எதிர்நோக்கைத் தந்துள்ளது என்று நீங்கள் அறியுமாறு நம் ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் கடவுளும் மாட்சிமிகு தந்தையுமானவர் ஞானமும், வெளிப்பாடும் தரும் தூய ஆவியை உங்களுக்கு அருள்வாராக! அல்லேலூயா.

தாவீதைச் சாமுவேல் திருப்பொழிவு செய்தார். ஆண்டவரின் ஆவி தாவீதின் மேல் நிறைவாக இருந்தது.

சாமுவேல் முதல் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 16: 1-13

அந்நாள்களில்

ஆண்டவர் சாமுவேலை நோக்கி, “இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசராகச் சவுல் இல்லாதவாறு நான் அவனைப் புறக்கணித்ததை நீ அறிந்திருந்தும், நீ எவ்வளவு காலம் அவனுக்காகத் துக்கம் கொண்டாடுவாய்? உன்னிடமுள்ள கொம்பை எண்ணெயால் நிரப்பிக் கொண்டு போ. பெத்லகேமைச் சார்ந்த ஈசாயிடம் உன்னை அனுப்புகிறேன்; ஏனெனில் அவன் புதல்வருள் ஒருவனை அரசனாகத் தேர்ந்துள்ளேன்” என்றார். அதற்குச் சாமுவேல், “எப்படிப் போவேன்? சவுல் கேள்விப்பட்டால், என்னைக் கொன்று விடுவானே?” என்றார். மீண்டும் ஆண்டவர், “நீ ஒரு கன்றுக்குட்டியை எடுத்துச் செல்! ‘ஆண்டவருக்குப் பலியிட வந்துள்ளேன்’ என்று சொல்; ஈசாயைப் பலிக்கு அழைத்திடு. அப்பொழுது நீ செய்ய வேண்டியது என்னவென்று உனக்கு நான் தெரிவிப்பேன்; நான் உனக்குக் காட்டுகிறவனை நீ எனக்காகத் திருப்பொழிவு செய்” என்றார்.

ஆண்டவர் கட்டளையிட்டவாறு சாமுவேல் செய்த பின் பெத்லகேமுக்குச் சென்றார். அப்பொழுது அவ்வூரின் பெரியோர்கள் அஞ்சி நடுங்கி அவரை எதிர்கொண்டு வந்து, “உங்கள் வருகையின் நோக்கம் சமாதானம் தானே” என்று கேட்டனர். அதற்கு அவர், “ஆம் சமாதானம் தான்; ஆண்டவருக்குப் பலிசெலுத்த வந்துள்ளேன்; உங்களையே தூய்மையாக்கிக் கொண்டு என்னுடன் பலியிட வாருங்கள்” என்றார். மேலும் ஈசாயையும் அவர் புதல்வரையும் தூய்மைப்படுத்திப் பலியிட வருமாறு அழைத்தார்.

அவர்கள் வந்தபோது அவர் எலியாவைப் பார்த்தவுடனே, “ஆண்டவரால் திருப்பொழிவு செய்யப்பட்டவன் இவனாகத்தான் இருக்கும்” என்று எண்ணினார். ஆனால் ஆண்டவர் சாமுவேலிடம், “அவன் தோற்றத்தையும் உயரத்தையும் பார்க்காதே; ஏனெனில் நான் அவனைப் புறக்கணித்து விட்டேன். மனிதர் பார்ப்பது போல் நான் பார்ப்பதில்லை; மனிதர் முகத்தைப் பார்க்கின்றனர்; ஆண்டவரோ அகத்தைப் பார்க்கின்றார்” என்றார். அடுத்து, ஈசாய் அபினதாபை அழைத்து சாமுவேல் முன்பாகக் கடந்து போகச் செய்தார். அவர், “இவனையும் ஆண்டவர் தேர்ந்து கொள்ளவில்லை” என்று கூறினார். பிறகு ஈசாய் சம்மாகுவைக் கடந்து போகச் செய்தார். “ஆண்டவர் இவனையும் தேர்ந்து கொள்ளவில்லை” என்றார் சாமுவேல். இவ்வாறு ஈசாய் தம் ஏழு புதல்வரைச் சாமுவேல் முன்பாகக் கடந்து போகச் செய்தார். “இவர்களையும் ஆண்டவர் தேர்ந்துகொள்ளவில்லை” என்றார் சாமுவேல்.

தொடர்ந்து சாமுவேல் ஈசாயைப் பார்த்து, “உன் பிள்ளைகள் இத்தனை பேர்தானா?” என்று கேட்க, “இன்னொரு சிறுவன் இருக்கிறான்; அவன் ஆடுகளை மேய்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறான்” என்று பதிலளித்தார் ஈசாய். அதற்குச் சாமுவேல் அவரிடம், “ஆள் அனுப்பி அவனை அழைத்து வா; ஏனெனில் அவன் வரும்வரை நான் உணவருந்த மாட்டேன்” என்றார். ஈசாய் ஆள் அனுப்பி அவனை அழைத்து வந்தார். அவன் சிவந்த மேனியும் ஒளிரும் கண்களும் கொண்டு அழகிய தோற்றமுடன் இருந்தான். ஆண்டவர் சாமுவேலிடம், “தேர்ந்துகொள்ளப்பட்டவன் இவனே! எழுந்து இவனைத் திருப்பொழிவு செய்!” என்றார். உடனே சாமுவேல் எண்ணெய் நிறைந்த கொம்பை எடுத்து, அவன் சகோதரர் முன்னிலையில் அவனைத் திருப்பொழிவு செய்தார். அன்று முதல் ஆண்டவரின் ஆவி தாவீதின் மேல் நிறைவாக இருந்தது. சாமுவேல் இராமாவுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார்.

One sabbath day, Jesus happened to be taking a walk through the cornfields, and his disciples began to pick ears of corn as they went along. And the Pharisees said to him, ‘Look, why are they doing something on the sabbath day that is forbidden?’ And he replied, ‘Did you never read what David did in his time of need when he and his followers were hungry – how he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the loaves of offering which only the priests are allowed to eat, and how he also gave some to the men with him?’

  And he said to them, ‘The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath; the Son of Man is master even of the sabbath.’

Jesse's youngest son David is anointed king.

1 Samuel 16: 1-13 

The Lord said to Samuel, ‘How long will you go on mourning over Saul when I have rejected him as king of Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen myself a king among his sons.’ Samuel replied, ‘How can I go? When Saul hears of it he will kill me.’ Then the Lord said, ‘Take a heifer with you and say, “I have come to sacrifice to the Lord.” Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and then I myself will tell you what you must do; you must anoint to me the one I point out to you.’

  Samuel did what the Lord ordered and went to Bethlehem. The elders of the town came trembling to meet him and asked, ‘Seer, have you come with good intentions towards us?’ ‘Yes,’ he replied ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Purify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.’ He purified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

  When they arrived, he caught sight of Eliab and thought, ‘Surely the Lord’s anointed one stands there before him’, but the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Take no notice of his appearance or his height for I have rejected him; God does not see as man sees; man looks at appearances but the Lord looks at the heart.’ Jesse then called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel, who said, ‘The Lord has not chosen this one either.’ Jesse then presented Shammah, but Samuel said, ‘The Lord has not chosen this one either.’ Jesse presented his seven sons to Samuel, but Samuel said to Jesse, ‘The Lord has not chosen these.’ He then asked Jesse, ‘Are these all the sons you have?’ He answered, ‘There is still one left, the youngest; he is out looking after the sheep.’ Then Samuel said to Jesse, ‘Send for him; we will not sit down to eat until he comes.’ Jesse had him sent for, a boy of fresh complexion, with fine eyes and pleasant bearing. The Lord said, ‘Come, anoint him, for this is the one.’ At this, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him where he stood with his brothers; and the spirit of the Lord seized on David and stayed with him from that day on. As for Samuel, he rose and went to Ramah.

யோவானுடைய சீடரும் பரிசேயரும் நோன்பு இருந்து வந்தனர். சிலர் இயேசுவிடம், “யோவானுடைய சீடர்களும் பரிசேயருடைய சீடர்களும் நோன்பு இருக்க, உம்முடைய சீடர்கள் ஏன் நோன்பு இருப்பதில்லை?” என்று கேட்டனர்.

அதற்கு இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “மணமகன் தங்களோடு இருக்கும்வரை மணவிருந்தினர்கள் நோன்பு இருக்க முடியுமா? மணமகன் அவர்களோடு இருக்கும் காலமெல்லாம் அவர்கள் நோன்பு இருக்க முடியாது. ஆனால் மணமகன் அவர்களை விட்டுப் பிரியவேண்டிய காலம் வரும். அப்போது அவர்களும் நோன்பு இருப்பார்கள். எவரும் பழைய ஆடையில் புதிய துணியை ஒட்டுப்போடுவதில்லை. அவ்வாறு ஒட்டுப்போட்டால், அந்தப் புதிய துணி பழையதிலிருந்து கிழியும்; கிழிசலும் பெரிதாகும். அதுபோலப் பழைய தோற்பைகளில், எவரும் புதிய திராட்சை மதுவை ஊற்றி வைப்பதில்லை. ஊற்றி வைத்தால் மது தோற்பைகளை வெடிக்கச் செய்யும்; மதுவும் தோற்பைகளும் பாழாகும். புதிய மது புதுத் தோற் பைகளுக்கே ஏற்றது” என்றார்.

சாமுவேல் சவுலை நோக்கி, “நிறுத்தும், இன்றிரவு ஆண்டவர் எனக்குக் கூறியவற்றை உமக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என, சவுல், “சொல்லுங்கள்” என்றார். சாமுவேல் கூறியது: “நீர் உமது பார்வைக்கே சிறியவராய் இருந்த போதல்லவா இஸ்ரயேல் குலங்களுக்குத் தலைவர் ஆனீர்? ஆண்டவரும் உம்மை இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசராகத் திருப்பொழிவு செய்தார். ஆண்டவர் உமக்கு வழிகாட்டி, ‘நீ சென்று அந்தப் பாவிகளான அமலேக்கியரை அழித்துவிட்டு வா. இறுதிவரை போரிட்டு அவர்களை ஒழித்துவிடு’ என்று சொன்னார். அப்படியிருக்க, நீர் ஏன் ஆண்டவரின் குரலுக்குச் செவிகொடுக்கவில்லை? கொள்ளைப்பொருள்மீது பாய்ந்து ஆண்டவரின் பார்வையில் தீயதெனப்பட்டதைச் செய்ததேன்?”

அதற்குச் சவுல், சாமுவேலை நோக்கி, “ஆண்டவரின் குரலுக்கு நான் செவிகொடுத்தேன், அவர் காட்டிய வழியிலும் சென்றேன். அமலேக்கியரின் மன்னன் ஆகாகைக் கொண்டு வந்தேன். ஆனால் அமலேக்கியரை அழித்துவிட்டேன். ஆனால் வீரர்கள் உம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவருக்குக் கில்காலில் பலி செலுத்த, தடை செய்யப்பட்ட கொள்ளைப் பொருளினின்று சிறந்த ஆடுகளையும், மாடுகளையும் கொண்டு வந்தனர்” என்றார்.

அப்போது சாமுவேல் கூறியது: “ஆண்டவருக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி தருவது எரிபலிகள், பிற பலிகள் செலுத்துவதா? அவரது குரலுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிவதா? கீழ்ப்படிதல் பலியை விடச் சிறந்தது, கீழ்ப்படிதல் ஆட்டுக் கிடாய்களின் கொழுப்பை விட மேலானது! கலகம் சூனியத்திற்கு நிகரான பாவம்! முரட்டுத்தனம் சிலைவழிபாட்டுக்கு ஒப்பான குற்றம். நீர் ஆண்டவரின் வார்த்தையைப் புறக்கணித்தீர்! அவரும் உம்மை அரச பதவியினின்று நீக்கிவிட்டார்.”

'Why do your disciples not fast?'

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 2 : 18-22. 

One day when John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, some people came to Jesus and said to him, ‘Why is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?’ Jesus replied, ‘Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of fasting while the bridegroom is still with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they could not think of fasting. But the time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then, on that day, they will fast. No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak; if he does, the patch pulls away from it, the new from the old, and the tear gets worse. And nobody puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the skins too. No! New wine, fresh skins!’
