நமக்கொரு வலிமைமிகு நகர் உண்டு; நம்மைக் காக்க அவர் கொத்தளங்களை அமைத்துள்ளார்; வாயில்களைத் திறந்துவிடுங்கள்; அவர்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்ட நேர்மையான மக்களினம் உள்ளே வரட்டும். அவர்கள் மன உறுதி கொண்டவர்கள்; உம்மீது நம்பிக்கை உடையவர்கள்; அவர்களை அமைதியால் நீர் உறுதிப்படுத்துகின்றீர்.

ஆண்டவர்மீது என்றென்றும் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளுங்கள்; ஏனெனில், ஆண்டவர், என் ஆண்டவர், என்றும் உள்ள கற்பாறை! உயரத்தில் வாழ்வோரை அவர் தாழ்த்துகின்றார்; வானுற உயர்ந்த நகரைத் தகர்க்கின்றார்; அதைத் தரைமட்டமாக்கி, புழுதியோடு புழுதியாக, மண்ணோடு மண்ணாகச் செய்கின்றார். எளியோரின் காலடிகளும் ஏழைகளின் பாதங்களும் அதை மிதிக்கும்.

Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on rock. We have a strong city;

she, the faithful one

whose mind is steadfast, who keeps the peace,

because she trusts in you.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கலிலேயக் கடலோரமாய் நடக்கும்போது, சகோதரர் இருவரைக் கண்டார். ஒருவர் பேதுரு எனப்படும் சீமோன், மற்றவர் அவர் சகோதரரான அந்திரேயா. மீனவரான அவ்விருவரும் கடலில் வலை வீசிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர்.

இயேசு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “என் பின்னே வாருங்கள்; நான் உங்களை மனிதரைப் பிடிப்பவர் ஆக்குவேன்” என்றார்.

உடனே அவர்கள் வலைகளை விட்டுவிட்டு அவரைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள். அங்கிருந்து அப்பால் சென்றபோது வேறு இரு சகோதரர்களைக் கண்டார். அவர்கள் செபதேயுவின் மகன் யாக்கோபும் அவர் சகோதரரான யோவானும் ஆவர். அவர்கள் தங்கள் தந்தை செபதேயுவுடன் படகில் வலைகளைப் பழுது பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களையும் அழைத்தார்.

உடனே அவர்கள் தங்கள் படகையும் தந்தையையும் விட்டுவிட்டு அவரைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

‘இயேசு ஆண்டவர்’ என வாயார அறிக்கையிட்டு, இறந்த அவரைக் கடவுள் உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்தார் என நீங்கள் உள்ளூர நம்பினால் மீட்புப் பெறுவீர்கள். இவ்வாறு உள்ளூர நம்புவோர் கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர் ஆவர்; வாயார அறிக்கையிடுவோர் மீட்புப் பெறுவர். ஏனெனில், “அவர்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டோர் வெட்கத்திற்கு உள்ளாக மாட்டார்” என்பது மறைநூல் கூற்று. இதில் யூதர் என்றோ கிரேக்கர் என்றோ வேறுபாடில்லை; அனைவருக்கும் ஆண்டவர் ஒருவரே. அவரை நோக்கி மன்றாடும் யாவருக்கும் அவர் அளவற்ற நலன்களைப் பொழிகிறார். “ஆண்டவரின் திருப்பெயரை அறிக்கையிட்டு மன்றாடுகிறவர் எவரும் மீட்புப் பெறுவர்” என்று எழுதியுள்ளது அல்லவா?

ஆனால் அவர்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருந்தாலன்றி, அவர்கள் எவ்வாறு அவரை நோக்கி மன்றாடுவார்கள்? தாங்கள் கேள்வியுறாத ஒருவர்மீது எவ்வாறு நம்பிக்கை கொள்வார்கள்? அறிவிக்கப்படாத ஒன்று பற்றி அவர்கள் எவ்வாறு கேள்வியுறுவார்கள்? அனுப்பப்படாமல் அவர்கள் எவ்வாறு அறிவிப்பார்கள்? இதைப் பற்றியே, “நற்செய்தி அறிவிப்போரின் பாதங்கள் எத்துணை அழகாய் இருக்கின்றன” என்று மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளது. ஆயினும் எல்லாருமே நற்செய்தியை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை.

இதைக் குறித்தே எசாயா, “ஆண்டவரே, நாங்கள் அறிவித்ததை நம்பியவர் யார்?” என்று முறையிடுகிறார். ஆகவே அறிவிப்பதைக் கேட்டால்தான் நம்பிக்கை உண்டாகும். கிறிஸ்துவைப் பற்றிய செய்தி அறிவிக்கப்பட்டால்தான் அதைக் கேட்க வாய்ப்புண்டு. அப்படியானால், அவர்கள் கேள்விப்படவில்லை என்று சொல்ல முடியுமோ? எப்படிச் சொல்ல முடியும்? ஏனெனில், “அவர்களது அறிக்கை உலகெங்கும் சென்றடைகின்றது; அவர்கள் கூறும் செய்தி உலகின் கடை எல்லை வரை எட்டுகின்றது.”

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 4: 18-22 

As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew; they were making a cast in the lake with their net, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.’ And they left their nets at once and followed him. Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. At once, leaving the boat and their father, they followed him.

Faith comes from what is preached, and what is preached comes from the word of Christ

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Romans 10 :9-18 

If your lips confess that Jesus is Lord and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved. By believing from the heart you are made righteous; by confessing with your lips you are saved. When scripture says: those who believe in him will have no cause for shame, it makes no distinction between Jew and Greek: all belong to the same Lord who is rich enough, however many ask his help, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  But they will not ask his help unless they believe in him, and they will not believe in him unless they have heard of him, and they will not hear of him unless they get a preacher, and they will never have a preacher unless one is sent, but as scripture says: The footsteps of those who bring good news are a welcome sound. Not everyone, of course, listens to the Good News. As Isaiah says: Lord, how many believed what we proclaimed? So faith comes from what is preached, and what is preached comes from the word of Christ. Let me put the question: is it possible that they did not hear? Indeed they did; in the words of the psalm, their voice has gone out through all the earth, and their message to the ends of the world.
