ஏன் என் அடியான் மோசேக்கு எதிராகப் பேச நீங்கள் அஞ்சவில்லை?

எண்ணிக்கை நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 12: 1-13

அந்நாள்களில்

மோசே எத்தியோப்பியப் பெண்ணை மணந்திருந்தார்; அவர் மணந்திருந்த எத்தியோப்பியப் பெண்ணை முன்னிட்டு மிரியாமும் ஆரோனும் அவருக்கு எதிராகப் பேசினர். அவர்கள், “ஆண்டவர் உண்மையில் மோசே வழியாக மட்டுமா பேசியுள்ளார்? அவர் எங்கள் வழியாகவும் பேசவில்லையா?” என்றனர். ஆண்டவர் இதனைக் கேட்டார். பூவுலகின் அனைத்து மாந்தரிலும் மோசே சாந்தமிகு மானிடராய்த் திகழ்ந்தார். உடனே ஆண்டவர் மோசே, ஆரோன், மிரியாம் ஆகியோரிடம், “நீங்கள் மூவரும் சந்திப்புக் கூடாரத்தருகே வாருங்கள்” என்றார்.

அவர்கள் மூவரும் வந்தனர். மேகத் தூண் ஒன்றில் ஆண்டவர் இறங்கி வந்து கூடார வாயிலருகே நின்று, ஆரோனையும் மிரியாமையும் அழைத்தார்; அவர்கள் இருவரும் முன் வந்தனர். அவர் கூறியது: “என் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேளுங்கள்; உங்களுக்குள் இறைவாக்கினன் ஒருவன் இருந்தால் ஆண்டவராகிய நான் ஒரு காட்சியின் வழியாக அவனுக்கு என்னை வெளிப்படுத்துவேன். கனவில் அவனோடு பேசுவேன்.

ஆனால் என் அடியான் மோசேயோடு அப்படியல்ல; என் வீடு முழுவதிலும் அவனே நம்பிக்கைக்குரியவன்; நான் அவனோடு பேசுவது மறைபொருளாக அல்ல, நேர்முகமாகவும் தெளிவாகவும் இருக்கும். ஆண்டவர் உருவையும் அவன் காண்கிறான். பின்னர் ஏன் என் அடியான் மோசேக்கு எதிராகப் பேச நீங்கள் அஞ்சவில்லை?” மேலும் ஆண்டவரின் சினம் அவர்கள்மேல் மூண்டது; அவர் அகன்று சென்றார்.

கூடாரத்தின் மேலிருந்து மேகம் அகன்றதும் மிரியாமை பனி போன்ற வெண்மையான தொழுநோய் பீடித்தது. ஆரோன் மிரியாம் பக்கம் திரும்பவே அவள் தொழுநோயாளியாய் இருக்கக் கண்டார். ஆரோன் மோசேயிடம், “என் தலைவரே! அறிவீனமாக நாங்கள் செய்த பாவத்தை எங்கள்மேல் சுமத்த வேண்டாம்; தாயின் வயிற்றிலிருந்து செத்துப் பிறந்த அரைகுறைக் குழந்தை போன்று இவள் ஆகாதிருக்கட்டும்” என்றார். மோசே ஆண்டவரிடம் முறையிட்டு, “கடவுளே, இவளைக் குணமாக்க வேண்டுகிறேன்” என்றார்.

Jesus walks on the water

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 14: 22-36 

Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he would send the crowds away. After sending the crowds away he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, while the boat, by now far out on the lake, was battling with a heavy sea, for there was a head-wind. In the fourth watch of the night he went towards them, walking on the lake, and when the disciples saw him walking on the lake they were terrified. ‘It is a ghost’ they said, and cried out in fear. But at once Jesus called out to them, saying, ‘Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid.’ It was Peter who answered. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘if it is you, tell me to come to you across the water.’ ‘Come’ said Jesus. Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across the water, but as soon as he felt the force of the wind, he took fright and began to sink. ‘Lord! Save me!’ he cried. Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. ‘Man of little faith,’ he said ‘why did you doubt?’ And as they got into the boat the wind dropped. The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, ‘Truly, you are the Son of God.’

  Having made the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret. When the local people recognised him they spread the news through the whole neighbourhood and took all that were sick to him, begging him just to let them touch the fringe of his cloak. And all those who touched it were completely cured.

A reading from the book of Numbers 12: 1-13 

Miriam, and Aaron too, spoke against Moses in connexion with the Cushite woman he had taken. (For he had married a Cushite woman.) They said, ‘Has the Lord spoken to Moses only? Has he not spoken to us too?’

  The Lord heard this. Now Moses was the most humble of men, the humblest man on earth. Suddenly, the Lord said to Moses and Aaron and Miriam, ‘Come, all three of you, to the Tent of Meeting.’ They went, all three of them, and the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the Tent. He called Aaron and Miriam and they both came forward. The Lord said, ‘Listen now to my words: If any man among you is a prophet I make myself known to him in a vision, I speak to him in a dream. Not so with my servant Moses: he is at home in my house; I speak with him face to face, plainly and not in riddles, and he sees the form of the Lord. How then have you dared to speak against my servant Moses?’

  The anger of the Lord blazed out against them. He departed, and as soon as the cloud withdrew from the Tent, there was Miriam a leper, white as snow! Aaron turned to look at her; she had become a leper.

  Aaron said to Moses: ‘Help me, my lord! Do not punish us for a sin committed in folly of which we are guilty. I entreat you, do not let her be like a monster, coming from its mother’s womb with flesh half corrupted.’

  Moses cried to the Lord, ‘O God,’ he said ‘please heal her, I beg you!’

அக்காலத்தில்

திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் கொலையுண்டதைக் கேள்வியுற்ற இயேசு அங்கிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப் படகிலேறிப் பாலை நிலத்திலுள்ள தனிமையான ஓர் இடத்திற்குச் சென்றார். இதைக் கேள்விப்பட்ட திரளான மக்கள் ஊர்களிலிருந்து கால்நடையாக அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தனர். இயேசு அங்குச் சென்றபோது பெருந்திரளான மக்களைக் கண்டு அவர்கள்மீது பரிவு கொண்டார்; அவர்களிடையே உடல் நலமற்றிருந்தோரைக் குணமாக்கினார்.

மாலையானபோது, சீடர் அவரிடம் வந்து, “இவ்விடம் பாலைநிலம் ஆயிற்றே, நேரமும் ஆகிவிட்டது. ஊர்களுக்குச் சென்று தங்களுக்குத் தேவையான உணவு வாங்கிக்கொள்ள மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை அனுப்பிவிடும்” என்றனர். இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “அவர்கள் செல்ல வேண்டியதில்லை; நீங்களே அவர்களுக்கு உணவு கொடுங்கள்” என்றார். ஆனால் அவர்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “எங்களிடம் இங்கே ஐந்து அப்பங்களும் இரண்டு மீன்களும் தவிர வேறு எதுவும் இல்லை” என்றார்கள். அவர், “அவற்றை என்னிடம் இங்கே கொண்டு வாருங்கள்” என்றார்.

மக்களைப் புல் தரையில் அமருமாறு ஆணையிட்டார். அவர் அந்த ஐந்து அப்பங்களையும் இரண்டு மீன்களையும் எடுத்து, வானத்தை அண்ணாந்து பார்த்து, கடவுளைப் போற்றி, அப்பங்களைப் பிட்டுச் சீடர்களிடம் கொடுத்தார். சீடர்களும் மக்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அனைவரும் வயிறார உண்டனர். எஞ்சிய துண்டுகளைப் பன்னிரண்டு கூடைகள் நிறைய எடுத்தனர். பெண்களும் சிறு பிள்ளைகளும் நீங்கலாக உணவு உண்ட ஆண்களின் தொகை ஏறத்தாழ ஐயாயிரம்.

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் மீண்டும் அழுது கூறியது: “நமக்கு உண்ண இறைச்சி யார் தருவார்? நாம் எகிப்தில் செலவின்றி உண்ட மீன், வெள்ளரிக் காய், கொம்மட்டிக் காய், கீரை, வெங்காயம், வெள்ளைப் பூண்டு ஆகியவற்றின் நினைவு வருகிறது. ஆனால் இப்பொழுதோ நம் வலிமை குன்றிப் போயிற்று; மன்னாவைத் தவிர வேறெதுவும் நம் கண்களில் படுவதில்லையே!”

மன்னா கொத்துமல்லி விதை போன்றும் அதன் தோற்றம் முத்துப் போன்றும் இருந்தது. மக்கள் வெளியில் சென்று அதைச் சேகரித்தனர்; அரவைக் கல்லில் அரைத்தனர் அல்லது உரலில் போட்டு இடித்தனர்; பானைகளில் அதை வேக வைத்து அதில் அப்பங்கள் செய்தனர்; அதன் சுவை எண்ணெயில் செய்த அப்பங்களின் சுவையை ஒத்திருந்தது. இரவில், பாளையத்தின்மேல் பனி விழும்போது மன்னாவும் அதனுடன் விழுந்தது.

எல்லா வீடுகளிலும் இருந்த மக்களும் தம்தம் கூடார வாயிலில் இருந்து அழும் குரலை மோசே கேட்டார்; ஆண்டவரின் சினம் கொழுந்து விட்டெரிந்தது; மோசேக்கும் அது பிடிக்கவில்லை. மோசே ஆண்டவரிடம் கூறியது: “உம் அடியானுக்கு ஏன் இந்தக் கேடு? நீர் எனக்குக் கருணை காட்டாமல் இம்மக்களின் எல்லாப் பளுவையும் என்மேல் சுமத்தியது ஏன்? இம்மக்களையெல்லாம் நானா கருத்தரித்தேன்? நானா இவர்களைப் பெற்றெடுத்தேன்? ‘பாலுண்ணும் குழந்தையை ஏந்திச் செல்பவள் போன்று இவர்களை மார்போடு ஏந்தி, அவர்கள் மூதாதையருக்கு நான் வாக்களித்திருந்த நாட்டுக்குக் கொண்டு செல்’ என்று நீர் சொல்வானேன்? இம்மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் கொடுக்கவேண்டிய இறைச்சிக்கு நான் எங்கு போவேன்? அவர்கள் எனக்கு முன் அழுது, ‘உண்ண எங்களுக்கு இறைச்சி தாரும்’ என்றும் கேட்கிறார்களே! நான் தனியாக இம்மக்கள் அனைவரையும் கொண்டு செல்லவே முடியாது; இது எனக்கு மிகப்பெரும் பளு. இப்படியே எனக்குச் செய்வீரானால் உடனே என்னைக் கொன்றுவிடும்; உம் பார்வையில் எனக்குத் தயை கிடைத்தால் இந்தக் கொடுமையை நான் காணாதிருக்கட்டும்.”

The feeding of the five thousand

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 14:13-21 

When Jesus received the news of John the Baptist’s death he withdrew by boat to a lonely place where they could be by themselves. But the people heard of this and, leaving the towns, went after him on foot. So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them and healed their sick.

  When evening came, the disciples went to him and said, ‘This is a lonely place, and the time has slipped by; so send the people away, and they can go to the villages to buy themselves some food.’ Jesus replied, ‘There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they answered ‘All we have with us is five loaves and two fish.’ ‘Bring them here to me’ he said. He gave orders that the people were to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing. And breaking the loaves handed them to his disciples who gave them to the crowds. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they collected the scraps remaining; twelve baskets full. Those who ate numbered about five thousand men, to say nothing of women and children.

The sons of Israel complain in the desert

A reading from the book of Numbers 11:4-15 

The sons of Israel began to wail, ‘Who will give us meat to eat?’ they said. ‘Think of the fish we used to eat free in Egypt, the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic! Here we are wasting away, stripped of everything; there is nothing but manna for us to look at!’

  The manna was like coriander seed, and had the appearance of bdellium. The people went round gathering it, and ground it in a mill or crushed it with a pestle; it was then cooked in a pot and made into pancakes. It tasted like cake made with oil. When the dew fell on the camp at night-time, the manna fell with it.

  Moses heard the people wailing, every family at the door of its tent. The anger of the Lord flared out, and Moses greatly worried over this. And he spoke to the Lord:

  ‘Why do you treat your servant so badly? Why have I not found favour with you, so that you load on me the weight of all this nation? Was it I who conceived all this people, was it I who gave them birth, that you should say to me, “Carry them in your bosom, like a nurse with a baby at the breast, to the land that I swore to give their fathers”? Where am I to find meat to give to all this people, when they come worrying me so tearfully and say, “Give us meat to eat”? I am not able to carry this nation by myself alone; the weight is too much for me. If this is how you want to deal with me, I would rather you killed me! If only I had found favour in your eyes, and not lived to see such misery as this!’
