கடவுள் ஆதாமை ஏதேன் தோட்டத்திலிருந்து வெளியே அனுப்பிவிட்டார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள் மனிதனைக் கூப்பிட்டு, “நீ எங்கே இருக்கின்றாய்?” என்று கேட்டார். “உம் குரல் ஒலியை நான் தோட்டத்தில் கேட்டேன். ஆனால், எனக்கு அச்சமாக இருந்தது. ஏனெனில், நான் ஆடையின்றி இருந்தேன். எனவே, நான் ஒளிந்து கொண்டேன்” என்றான் மனிதன். “நீ ஆடையின்றி இருக்கின்றாய் என்று உனக்குச் சொன்னது யார்? நீ உண்ணக்கூடாது என்று நான் விலக்கிய மரத்திலிருந்து நீ உண்டாயோ?” என்று கேட்டார். அப்பொழுது அவன், “என்னுடன் இருக்கும்படி நீர் தந்த அந்தப் பெண், மரத்தின் கனியை எனக்குக் கொடுத்தாள்; நானும் உண்டேன்” என்றான். ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள், “நீ ஏன் இவ்வாறு செய்தாய்?” என்று பெண்ணைக் கேட்க, அதற்குப் பெண், “பாம்பு என்னை ஏமாற்றியது, நானும் உண்டேன்” என்றாள்.

ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள் பாம்பிடம், “நீ இவ்வாறு செய்ததால், கால்நடைகள், காட்டு விலங்குகள் அனைத்திலும் சபிக்கப்பட்டிருப்பாய். உன் வயிற்றினால் ஊர்ந்து உன் வாழ்நாள் எல்லாம் புழுதியைத் தின்பாய். உனக்கும் பெண்ணுக்கும், உன் வித்துக்கும் அவள் வித்துக்கும் பகையை உண்டாக்குவேன். அவள் வித்து உன் தலையைக் காயப்படுத்தும். நீ அதன் குதிங்காலைக் காயப்படுத்துவாய்” என்றார். அவர் பெண்ணிடம், “உன் மகப்பேற்றின் வேதனையை மிகுதியாக்குவேன்; வேதனையில் நீ குழந்தைகள் பெறுவாய். ஆயினும் உன் கணவன் மேல் நீ வேட்கை கொள்வாய்; அவனோ உன்னை ஆள்வான்” என்றார்.

அவர் மனிதனிடம், “உன் மனைவியின் சொல்லைக் கேட்டு, உண்ணக் கூடாது என்று நான் கட்டளையிட்டு விலக்கிய மரத்திலிருந்து நீ உண்டதால் உன் பொருட்டு நிலம் சபிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது; உன் வாழ்நாளெல்லாம் வருந்தி அதன் பயனை உழைத்து நீ உண்பாய். முட்செடியையும் முட்புதரையும் உனக்கு அது முளைப்பிக்கும். வயல்வெளிப் பயிர்களை நீ உண்பாய். நீ மண்ணிலிருந்து உருவாக்கப்பட்டதால் அதற்குத் திரும்பும்வரை நெற்றி வியர்வை நிலத்தில் விழ உழைத்து உன் உணவை உண்பாய். நீ மண்ணாய் இருக்கிறாய்; மண்ணுக்கே திரும்புவாய்” என்றார்.

மனிதன் தன் மனைவிக்கு ‘ஏவாள்’ என்று பெயரிட்டான்; ஏனெனில் உயிருள்ளோர் எல்லாருக்கும் அவளே தாய். ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள் மனிதனுக்கும் அவன் மனைவிக்கும் தோல் ஆடைகள் செய்து அவர்கள் அணியச் செய்தார். பின்பு ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள், “மனிதன் இப்பொழுது நம்முள் ஒருவர்போல் நன்மை தீமை அறிந்தவன் ஆகிவிட்டான். இனி அவன் என்றென்றும் வாழ்வதற்காக, வாழ்வின் மரத்திலிருந்தும் பறித்து உண்ணக் கையை நீட்டிவிடக் கூடாது” என்றார்.

எனவே ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள் அவன் உருவாக்கப்பட்ட அதே மண்ணைப் பண்படுத்த அவனை ஏதேன் தோட்டத்திலிருந்து வெளியே அனுப்பிவிட்டார். இவ்வாறாக, அவர் மனிதனை வெளியே துரத்திவிட்டார். ஏதேன் தோட்டத்திற்குக் கிழக்கே வாழ்வின் மரத்திற்குச் செல்லும் வழியைக் காப்பதற்குக் கெருபுகளையும் சுற்றிச் சுழலும் சுடரொளி வாளையும் வைத்தார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 7: 31-37 

Returning from the district of Tyre, Jesus went by way of Sidon towards the Sea of Galilee, right through the Decapolis region. And they brought him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they asked him to lay his hand on him. He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, put his fingers into the man’s ears and touched his tongue with spittle. Then looking up to heaven he sighed; and he said to him, ‘Ephphatha’, that is, ‘Be opened.’ And his ears were opened, and the ligament of his tongue was loosened and he spoke clearly. And Jesus ordered them to tell no one about it, but the more he insisted, the more widely they published it. Their admiration was unbounded. ‘He has done all things well,’ they said ‘he makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak.’

A Reading from the Book of Genesis 3:1-8 

The serpent was the most subtle of all the wild beasts that the Lord God had made. It asked the woman, ‘Did God really say you were not to eat from any of the trees in the garden?’ The woman answered the serpent, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees in the garden. But of the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden God said, “You must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain of death.”’ Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘No! You will not die! God knows in fact that on the day you eat it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods, knowing good and evil.’ The woman saw that the tree was good to eat and pleasing to the eye, and that it was desirable for the knowledge that it could give. So she took some of its fruit and ate it. She gave some also to her husband who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realised that they were naked. So they sewed fig-leaves together to make themselves loin-cloths.

  The man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

இயேசு தீர் பகுதியை விட்டு, சீதோன் வழியாகச் சென்று தெக்கப்பொலி பகுதி நடுவே வந்து, கலிலேயக் கடலை அடைந்தார். காது கேளாதவரும் திக்கிப் பேசுபவருமான ஒருவரைச் சிலர் அவரிடம் கொண்டு வந்து, அவர்மீது கை வைத்துக் குணமாக்குமாறு அவரை வேண்டிக்கொண்டனர். இயேசு அவரைக் கூட்டத்திலிருந்து தனியே அழைத்துச் சென்று, தம் விரல்களை அவர் காதுகளில் இட்டு, உமிழ் நீரால் அவர் நாவைத் தொட்டார்; பிறகு வானத்தை அண்ணாந்து பார்த்து, பெருமூச்சு விட்டு, அவரை நோக்கி, “எப்பத்தா” அதாவது ‘திறக்கப்படு’ என்றார். உடனே அவருடைய காதுகள் திறக்கப்பட்டன; நாவும் கட்டவிழ்ந்தது. அவர் தெளிவாகப் பேசினார்.

இதை எவருக்கும் சொல்ல வேண்டாமென்று அவர்களுக்கு அவர் கட்டளையிட்டார். அவரது கட்டளைக்கு நேர்மாறாக இன்னும் மிகுதியாய் அவர்கள் அதை அறிவித்து வந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் அளவு கடந்த வியப்பில் ஆழ்ந்தவர்களாய், “இவர் எத்துணை நன்றாக யாவற்றையும் செய்து வருகிறார்! காது கேளாதோர் கேட்கவும் பேச்சற்றோர் பேசவும் செய்கிறாரே!” என்று பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

அந்நாள்களில்

ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள் உருவாக்கிய காட்டு விலங்குகளிலெல்லாம் பாம்பு மிகவும் சூழ்ச்சிமிக்கதாக இருந்தது. அது பெண்ணிடம், “கடவுள் உங்களிடம் தோட்டத்திலுள்ள எல்லா மரங்களிலிருந்தும் உண்ணக்கூடாது என்றது உண்மையா?” என்று கேட்டது.

பெண் பாம்பிடம், “தோட்டத்தில் இருக்கும் மரங்களின் பழங்களை நாங்கள் உண்ணலாம். ஆனால் ‘தோட்டத்தின் நடுவில் உள்ள மரத்தின் கனியை மட்டும் நீங்கள் உண்ணக் கூடாது; அதைத் தொடவும் கூடாது, மீறினால் நீங்கள் சாவீர்கள்’ என்று கடவுள் சொன்னார்” என்றாள். பாம்பு பெண்ணிடம், “நீங்கள் சாகவே மாட்டீர்கள்; ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் அதிலிருந்து உண்ணும் நாளில் உங்கள் கண்கள் திறக்கப்படும். நீங்கள் கடவுளைப்போல் நன்மை தீமையை அறிவீர்கள் என்பது கடவுளுக்குத் தெரியும்” என்றது.

அந்த மரம் உண்பதற்குச் சுவையானதாகவும் கண்களுக்குக் களிப்பூட்டுவதாகவும் அறிவு பெறுவதற்கு விரும்பத்தக்கதாகவும் இருந்ததைக் கண்டு, பெண் அதன் பழத்தைப் பறித்து உண்டாள். அதைத் தன்னுடன் இருந்த தன் கணவனுக்கும் கொடுத்தாள். அவனும் உண்டான்.

அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் இருவரின் கண்களும் திறக்கப்பட்டன; அவர்கள் தாங்கள் ஆடையின்றி இருப்பதை அறிந்தனர். ஆகவே, அத்தி இலைகளைத் தைத்துத் தங்களுக்கு ஆடைகளைச் செய்துகொண்டனர்.

மென்காற்று வீசிய பொழுதினிலே, தோட்டத்தில் ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுள் உலவிக்கொண்டிருந்த ஓசை கேட்டு, மனிதனும் அவன் மனைவியும் ஆண்டவராகிய கடவுளின் திருமுன்னிருந்து விலகி, தோட்டத்தின் மரங்களுக்கு இடையே ஒளிந்து கொண்டனர்.

Jesus left Gennesaret and set out for the territory of Tyre. There he went into a house and did not want anyone to know he was there, but he could not pass unrecognised. A woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him straightaway and came and fell at his feet. Now the woman was a pagan, by birth a Syrophoenician, and she begged him to cast the devil out of her daughter. And he said to her, ‘The children should be fed first, because it is not fair to take the children’s food and throw it to the house-dogs.’ But she spoke up: ‘Ah yes, sir,’ she replied ‘but the house-dogs under the table can eat the children’s scraps.’ And he said to her, ‘For saying this, you may go home happy: the devil has gone out of your daughter.’ So she went off to her home and found the child lying on the bed and the devil gone.

A Reading from the Book of Genesis 2:18-25 

The Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him a helpmate.’ So from the soil the Lord God fashioned all the wild beasts and all the birds of heaven. These he brought to the man to see what he would call them; each one was to bear the name the man would give it. The man gave names to all the cattle, all the birds of heaven and all the wild beasts. But no helpmate suitable for man was found for him. So the Lord God made the man fall into a deep sleep. And while he slept, he took one of his ribs and enclosed it in flesh. The Lord God built the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man. The man exclaimed:

‘This at last is bone from my bones,

and flesh from my flesh!

This is to be called woman,

for this was taken from man.’

This is why a man leaves his father and mother and joins himself to his wife, and they become one body.

  Now both of them were naked, the man and his wife, but they felt no shame in front of each other.
