A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 18:1-8 

Jesus told his disciples a parable about the need to pray continually and never lose heart. ‘There was a judge in a certain town’ he said ‘who had neither fear of God nor respect for man. In the same town there was a widow who kept on coming to him and saying, “I want justice from you against my enemy!” For a long time he refused, but at last he said to himself, “Maybe I have neither fear of God nor respect for man, but since she keeps pestering me I must give this widow her just rights, or she will persist in coming and worry me to death.”’

  And the Lord said ‘You notice what the unjust judge has to say? Now will not God see justice done to his chosen who cry to him day and night even when he delays to help them? I promise you, he will see justice done to them, and done speedily. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find any faith on earth?’

It is our duty to welcome missionaries and contribute our share to their work.

3 John 5-8 

My friend, you have done faithful work in looking after these brothers, even though they were complete strangers to you. They are a proof to the whole Church of your charity and it would be a very good thing if you could help them on their journey in a way that God would approve. It was entirely for the sake of the name that they set out, without depending on the pagans for anything; it is our duty to welcome men of this sort and contribute our share to their work for the truth.

லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 18: 1-8

அக்காலத்தில்

மனந்தளராமல் எப்பொழுதும் இறைவனிடம் மன்றாட வேண்டும் என்பதற்கு இயேசு ஓர் உவமை சொன்னார். “ஒரு நகரில் நடுவர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சி நடப்பதில்லை; மக்களையும் மதிப்பதில்லை.

அந்நகரில் கைம்பெண் ஒருவரும் இருந்தார். அவர் நடுவரிடம் போய், ‘என் எதிரியைத் தண்டித்து எனக்கு நீதி வழங்கும்’ என்று கேட்டுக் கொண்டேயிருந்தார். நடுவரோ, நெடுங்காலமாய் எதுவும் செய்ய விரும்பவில்லை.

பின்பு அவர், ‘நான் கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சுவதில்லை; மக்களையும் மதிப்பதில்லை. என்றாலும் இக்கைம்பெண் எனக்குத் தொல்லை கொடுத்துக்கொண்டிருப்பதால் நான் இவருக்கு நீதி வழங்குவேன். இல்லையானால் இவர் என் உயிரை வாங்கிக்கொண்டேயிருப்பார்’ என்று தமக்குள்ளே சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்."

பின் ஆண்டவர் அவர்களிடம், “நேர்மையற்ற நடுவரே இப்படிச் சொன்னார் என்றால், தாம் தேர்ந்துகொண்டவர்கள் அல்லும் பகலும் தம்மை நோக்கிக் கூக்குரலிடும்போது கடவுள் அவர்களுக்கு நீதி வழங்காமல் இருப்பாரா? அவர்களுக்குத் துணை செய்யக் காலம் தாழ்த்துவாரா? விரைவில் அவர்களுக்கு நீதி வழங்குவார் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். ஆயினும் மானிடமகன் வரும்போது மண்ணுலகில் நம்பிக்கையைக் காண்பாரோ?” என்றார்.

அன்பார்ந்தவரே, நீர் சகோதரர்களுக்கு, அதுவும் அறிமுகமில்லாச் சகோதரர்களுக்குச் செய்தவற்றையெல்லாம் பார்க்கும்போது நீர் நம்பிக்கைக்கு உரியவர் என்பது தெளிவாகிறது. அவர்கள் திருச்சபையின் முன்னிலையில் உமது அன்பைக் குறித்துச் சான்று பகர்ந்தார்கள். எனவே நீர் அவர்களைக் கடவுளுக்கு உகந்த முறையில் வழியனுப்பி வைத்தால் நல்லது. ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் கிறிஸ்துவுக்காகப் பயணம் மேற்கொண்டவர்கள். பிற மக்களிடமிருந்து அவர்கள் வழியில் எதையும் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளவில்லை. இத்தகையோருக்கு உதவுவது நமது கடமை. இவ்வாறு, உண்மைக்காக உழைக்கும் அவர்களின் உடன் உழைப்பாளர் ஆகிறோம்.

When the day comes for the Son of Man to be revealed.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to  St.Luke 17:26-37 

Jesus said to the disciples:

  ‘As it was in Noah’s day, so will it also be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating and drinking, marrying wives and husbands, right up to the day Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. It will be the same as it was in Lot’s day: people were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, but the day Lot left Sodom, God rained fire and brimstone from heaven and it destroyed them all. It will be the same when the day comes for the Son of Man to be revealed.

  ‘When that day comes, anyone on the housetop, with his possessions in the house, must not come down to collect them, nor must anyone in the fields turn back either. Remember Lot’s wife. Anyone who tries to preserve his life will lose it; and anyone who loses it will keep it safe. I tell you, on that night two will be in one bed: one will be taken, the other left; two women will be grinding corn together: one will be taken, the other left.’ The disciples interrupted. ‘Where, Lord?’ they asked. He said, ‘Where the body is, there too will the vultures gather.’

The commandment which you have heard since the beginning is to live a life of love.

2 John 4-9 

It has given me great joy to find that your children have been living the life of truth as we were commanded by the Father. I am writing now, dear lady, not to give you any new commandment, but the one which we were given at the beginning, and to plead: let us love one another.

  To love is to live according to his commandments: this is the commandment which you have heard since the beginning, to live a life of love.

  There are many deceivers about in the world, refusing to admit that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. They are the Deceiver; they are the Antichrist. Watch yourselves, or all our work will be lost and not get the reward it deserves. If anybody does not keep within the teaching of Christ but goes beyond it, he cannot have God with him: only those who keep to what he taught can have the Father and the Son with them.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களுக்குக் கூறியது: “நோவாவின் காலத்தில் நடந்தது போலவே மானிட மகனுடைய காலத்திலும் நடக்கும். நோவா பேழைக்குள் சென்ற நாள் வரை எல்லாரும் திருமணம் செய்துகொண்டும் உண்டும் குடித்தும் வந்தார்கள். வெள்ளப்பெருக்கு வந்து அவர்கள் அனைவரையும் அழித்தது. அவ்வாறே லோத்தின் காலத்திலும் நடந்தது. மக்கள் உண்டார்கள், குடித்தார்கள்; வாங்கினார்கள், விற்றார்கள்; நட்டார்கள், கட்டினார்கள்.

லோத்து சோதோமை விட்டுப் போன நாளில் விண்ணிலிருந்து பெய்த தீயும் கந்தகமும் எல்லாரையும் அழித்தன. மானிடமகன் வெளிப்படும் நாளிலும் அப்படியே நடக்கும்.

அந்நாளில் வீட்டின் மேல்தளத்தில் இருப்பவர் வீட்டிலுள்ள தம் பொருள்களை எடுக்கக் கீழே இறங்க வேண்டாம். அதுபோலவே வயலில் இருப்பவர் திரும்பி வரவேண்டாம். லோத்தின் மனைவியை நினைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். தம் உயிரைக் காக்க வழி தேடுவோர் அதை இழந்துவிடுவர்; தம் உயிரை இழப்பவரோ அதைக் காத்துக்கொள்வர்.

நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்; அந்த இரவில் ஒரே கட்டிலில் இருவர் படுத்திருப்பர். ஒருவர் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளப்படுவார்; மற்றவர் விட்டுவிடப்படுவார். இருவர் சேர்ந்து மாவரைத்துக்கொண்டிருப்பர். ஒருவர் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளப்படுவார்; மற்றவர் விட்டுவிடப்படுவார். இருவர் வயலில் இருப்பர். ஒருவர் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளப்படுவார்; மற்றவர் விட்டுவிடப்படுவார்."

அவர்கள் இயேசுவைப் பார்த்து, “ஆண்டவரே, இது எங்கே நிகழும்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அவர் அவர்களிடம், “பிணம் எங்கே இருக்கிறதோ அங்கேயே கழுகுகளும் வந்து கூடும்” என்றார்.
