அன்பின் வழியாய்ச் செயலாற்றும் நம்பிக்கை ஒன்றே இன்றியமையாதது.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கலாத்தியருக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 5: 1-6

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

கிறிஸ்து அடிமை நிலையிலிருந்து நம்மை விடுவித்து நமக்கு உரிமை வாழ்வை அளித்துள்ளார்; அதில் நிலைத்திருங்கள். மீண்டும் அடிமைத்தளை எனும் நுகத்தை உங்கள்மேல் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதீர்கள்.

பவுலாகிய நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்: நீங்கள் விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டால் கிறிஸ்துவால் உங்களுக்குப் பயனே இல்லை. விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொள்ளும் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் திருச்சட்டம் முழுவதையும் கடைப்பிடிக்கக் கடமை உண்டு என்பதை நான் மீண்டும் வற்புறுத்திக் கூறுகிறேன். திருச்சட்டம் சார்ந்த செயல்களால் இறைவனுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர் ஆக முயலும் நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவுடன் உறவற்றுப் போய் விட்டீர்கள்; அருளை இழந்துவிட்டீர்கள்.

ஆனால் நாம் தூய ஆவியின் துணையால் நம்பிக்கையின் வழியாய் இறைவனுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர் ஆக்கப்படுவோம் என்னும் எதிர்நோக்கு நிறைவேறும் என ஆவலோடு காத்திருக்கிறோம். கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவோடு இணைந்து வாழ்வோர், விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டாலும் செய்து கொள்ளாவிட்டாலும், அவர்களுக்கு எப்பயனும் இல்லை. அன்பின் வழியாய்ச் செயலாற்றும் நம்பிக்கை ஒன்றே இன்றியமையாதது.

As Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be a sign.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 11:29-32 

The crowds got even bigger, and Jesus addressed them:

  ‘This is a wicked generation; it is asking for a sign. The only sign it will be given is the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. On Judgement day the Queen of the South will rise up with the men of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and there is something greater than Solomon here. On Judgement day the men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation and condemn it, because when Jonah preached they repented; and there is something greater than Jonah here.’

Christ freed us: do not submit again to slavery.

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Galatians 4:22-24,26-27,31-5:1.

The Law says, if you remember, that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave-girl, and one by his free-born wife. The child of the slave-girl was born in the ordinary way; the child of the free woman was born as the result of a promise. This can be regarded as an allegory: the women stand for the two covenants. The first who comes from Mount Sinai, and whose children are slaves, is Hagar. The Jerusalem above, however, is free and is our mother, since scripture says: Shout for joy, you barren women who bore no children! Break into shouts of joy and gladness, you who were never in labour. For there are more sons of the forsaken one than sons of the wedded wife. So, my brothers, we are the children, not of the slave-girl, but of the free-born wife.

  When Christ freed us, he meant us to remain free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery.

மக்கள் வந்து கூடக்கூட இயேசு கூறியது: “இந்தத் தீய தலைமுறையினர் அடையாளம் கேட்கின்றனர். இவர்களுக்கு யோனாவின் அடையாளத்தைத் தவிர வேறு அடையாளம் எதுவும் கொடுக்கப்பட மாட்டாது. யோனா நினிவே மக்களுக்கு அடையாளமாய் இருந்ததைப் போன்று மானிட மகனும் இந்தத் தலைமுறையினருக்கு அடையாளமாய் இருப்பார். தீர்ப்புநாளில் தென்னாட்டு அரசி இத்தலைமுறையினரோடு எழுந்து இவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்வார். ஏனெனில் அவர் சாலமோனின் ஞானத்தைக் கேட்க உலகின் கடைக்கோடியிலிருந்து வந்தவர். ஆனால் இங்கிருப்பவர் சாலமோனிலும் பெரியவர் அல்லவா! தீர்ப்பு நாளில் நினிவே மக்கள் இத்தலைமுறையினரோடு எழுந்து இவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்வார்கள். ஏனெனில் யோனா அறிவித்த செய்தியைக் கேட்டு அவர்கள் மனம் மாறியவர்கள். ஆனால் இங்கிருப்பவர் யோனாவை விடப் பெரியவர் அல்லவா!”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

ஆபிரகாமுக்கு மக்கள் இருவர் இருந்தனர். ஒருவன் அடிமைப் பெண்ணிடம் பிறந்தவன்; மற்றவன் உரிமைப் பெண்ணிடம் பிறந்தவன் என்று எழுதியுள்ளது. அடிமைப் பெண்ணின் மகன் இயல்பான முறைப்படி பிறந்தவன்; உரிமைப் பெண்ணின் மகனோ வாக்குறுதியின் பயனாய்ப் பிறந்தவன்.

இது ஒரு தொடர் உருவகம். இந்தப் பெண்கள் இருவரும் இரண்டு உடன்படிக்கைகளைக் குறிக்கின்றனர். ஒன்று ஆகார் குறிக்கும் சீனாய் மலையில் செய்யப்பட்ட உடன்படிக்கை. அது அடிமை நிலையில் பிள்ளைகளைப் பெற்றெடுக்கிறது. மேலே உள்ள எருசலேமோ உரிமைப் பெண்; நமக்கு அன்னை. ஏனெனில், “பிள்ளை பெறாத மலடியே, மகிழ்ந்து பாடு! பேறுகால வேதனை அறியாதவளே, அக்களித்துப் பாடி முழங்கு! ஏனெனில் கைவிடப்பட்டவளின் பிள்ளைகள் கணவனோடு வாழ்பவளின் பிள்ளைகளை விட ஏராளமானவர்கள்” என்று மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளது.

ஆகவே சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, நாம் அடிமைப் பெண்ணின் மக்கள் அல்ல; உரிமைப் பெண்ணின் மக்கள். கிறிஸ்து அடிமை நிலையிலிருந்து நம்மை விடுவித்து நமக்கு உரிமை வாழ்வை அளித்துள்ளார்; அதில் நிலைத்திருங்கள். மீண்டும் அடிமைத்தளை எனும் நுகத்தை உங்கள்மேல் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதீர்கள்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 22:1-14 

Jesus began to speak to the chief priests and elders of the people in parables: ‘The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a feast for his son’s wedding. He sent his servants to call those who had been invited, but they would not come. Next he sent some more servants. “Tell those who have been invited” he said “that I have my banquet all prepared, my oxen and fattened cattle have been slaughtered, everything is ready. Come to the wedding.” But they were not interested: one went off to his farm, another to his business, and the rest seized his servants, maltreated them and killed them. The king was furious. He despatched his troops, destroyed those murderers and burnt their town. Then he said to his servants, “The wedding is ready; but as those who were invited proved to be unworthy, go to the crossroads in the town and invite everyone you can find to the wedding.” So these servants went out on to the roads and collected together everyone they could find, bad and good alike; and the wedding hall was filled with guests. When the king came in to look at the guests he noticed one man who was not wearing a wedding garment, and said to him, “How did you get in here, my friend, without a wedding garment?” And the man was silent. Then the king said to the attendants, “Bind him hand and foot and throw him out into the dark, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.” For many are called, but few are chosen.’
