The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found the baby lying in the manger.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 2:16-21 

The shepherds hurried away to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw the child they repeated what they had been told about him, and everyone who heard it was astonished at what the shepherds had to say. As for Mary, she treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds went back glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen; it was exactly as they had been told.

  When the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised, they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before his conception.

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to Galatians 4:4-7 

When the appointed time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born a subject of the Law, to redeem the subjects of the Law and to enable us to be adopted as sons. The proof that you are sons is that God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts: the Spirit that cries, ‘Abba, Father’, and it is this that makes you a son, you are not a slave any more; and if God has made you son, then he has made you heir.

They are to call down my name on the sons of Israel, and I will bless them.

A Reading from the Book of Numbers 6:22-27 

The Lord spoke to Moses and said, ‘Say this to Aaron and his sons: “This is how you are to bless the sons of Israel. You shall say to them:

May the Lord bless you and keep you.

May the Lord let his face shine on you and be gracious to you.

May the Lord uncover his face to you and bring you peace.”

This is how they are to call down my name on the sons of Israel, and I will bless them.’

அக்காலத்தில்

இடையர்கள் பெத்லகேமுக்கு விரைந்து சென்று, மரியாவையும் யோசேப்பையும் தீவனத் தொட்டியில் கிடத்தியிருந்த குழந்தையையும் கண்டார்கள். பின்பு அந்தக் குழந்தையைப் பற்றித் தங்களுக்குச் சொல்லப்பட்ட செய்தியைத் தெரிவித்தார்கள். அதைக் கேட்ட யாவரும், இடையர்கள் தங்களுக்குச் சொன்னவற்றைக் குறித்து வியப்படைந்தனர். ஆனால் மரியா இந்நிகழ்ச்சிகளையெல்லாம் தம் உள்ளத்தில் இருத்திச் சிந்தித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார். இடையர்கள் தாங்கள் கேட்டவை, கண்டவை அனைத்தையும் குறித்துக் கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்து பாடிக்கொண்டே திரும்பிச் சென்றார்கள். அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லப்பட்டவாறு எல்லாம் நிகழ்ந்திருந்தது.

குழந்தைக்கு விருத்தசேதனம் செய்யவேண்டிய எட்டாம் நாள் வந்தது. தாயின் வயிற்றில் உருவாகுமுன்பே வானதூதர் சொல்லியிருந்தவாறு அதற்கு இயேசு என்று பெயரிட்டார்கள்.

காலம் நிறைவேறியபோது திருச்சட்டத்திற்கு உட்பட்டிருந்த நம்மை மீட்டுத் தம் பிள்ளைகள் ஆக்குமாறு கடவுள் தம் மகனைப் பெண்ணிடம் பிறந்தவராகவும் திருச்சட்டத்திற்கு உட்பட்டவராகவும் அனுப்பினார்.

நீங்கள் பிள்ளைகளாய் இருப்பதால் கடவுள் தம் மகனின் ஆவியை உங்கள் உள்ளங்களுக்குள் அனுப்பியுள்ளார்; அந்த ஆவி ‘அப்பா, தந்தையே,’ எனக் கூப்பிடுகிறது. ஆகையால் இனி நீங்கள் அடிமைகளல்ல; பிள்ளைகள்தாம்; பிள்ளைகளாகவும் உரிமைப்பேறு உடையவர்களாகவும் இருக்கிறீர்கள். இது கடவுளின் செயலே.

*🕯️A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John 1:1-18*

In the beginning was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

Through him all things came into being, not one thing came into being except through him.

What has come into being in him was life, life that was the light of men;

and light shines in darkness, and darkness could not overpower it.

A man came, sent by God. His name was John.

He came as a witness, to bear witness to the light, so that everyone might believe through him.

He was not the light, he was to bear witness to the light.

The Word was the real light that gives light to everyone; he was coming into the world.

He was in the world that had come into being through him, and the world did not recognise him.

He came to his own and his own people did not accept him.

But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believed in his name

who were born not from human stock or human desire or human will but from God himself.

The Word became flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that he has from the Father as only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John witnesses to him. He proclaims: 'This is the one of whom I said: He who comes after me has passed ahead of me because he existed before me.'

Indeed, from his fullness we have, all of us, received -- one gift replacing another,

for the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ.

No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.
