There was none left, but the tribe of Judah only

2 Kings 17 :5-8,13-15,18 

The king of Assyria invaded the whole country and, coming to Samaria, laid siege to it for three years. In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah on the Habor, a river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

  This happened because the Israelites had sinned against the Lord their God who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the grip of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshipped other gods, they followed the practices of the nations that the Lord had dispossessed for them.

  And yet through all the prophets and all the seers, the Lord had given Israel and Judah this warning, ‘Turn from your wicked ways and keep my commandments and my laws in accordance with the entire Law I laid down for your fathers and delivered to them through my servants the prophets.’ But they would not listen, they were more stubborn than their ancestors had been who had no faith in the Lord their God. They despised his laws and the covenant he had made with their ancestors, and the warnings he had given them. They pursued emptiness, and themselves became empty through copying the nations round them although the Lord had ordered them not to act as they did. For this, the Lord was enraged with Israel and thrust them away from him. There was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு மக்களை வரவேற்று இறையாட்சியைப் பற்றி அவர்களோடு பேசி, குணமாக வேண்டியவர்களைக் குணப்படுத்தினார். பொழுது சாயத் தொடங்கவே பன்னிருவரும் அவரிடம் வந்து, “இவ்விடம் பாலை நிலம் ஆயிற்றே; சுற்றிலும் உள்ள ஊர்களுக்கும் பட்டிகளுக்கும் சென்று தங்கவும் உணவு வாங்கிக்கொள்ளவும் மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை அனுப்பிவிடும்” என்றனர். இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “நீங்களே அவர்களுக்கு உணவு கொடுங்கள்” என்றார். அவர்கள், “எங்களிடம் ஐந்து அப்பங்களும் இரண்டு மீன்களுமே உள்ளன. நாங்கள் போய் இத்தனை பேருக்கும் உணவு வாங்கி வந்தால்தான் முடியும்” என்றார்கள்.

ஏனெனில் ஏறக்குறைய ஐயாயிரம் ஆண்கள் அங்கு இருந்தனர். இயேசு அவருடைய சீடர்களை நோக்கி, “இவர்களை ஐம்பது ஐம்பது பேராகப் பந்தியில் அமரச் செய்யுங்கள்” என்றார். அவர் சொன்னபடியே அனைவரையும் அவர்கள் பந்தியில் அமரச் செய்தார்கள்.

அவர் அந்த ஐந்து அப்பங்களையும் இரண்டு மீன்களையும் எடுத்து வானத்தை அண்ணாந்து பார்த்து, அவற்றின்மீது ஆசி கூறி, பிட்டு, மக்களுக்குப் பரிமாறுவதற்காகச் சீடரிடம் கொடுத்தார். அனைவரும் வயிறார உண்டனர். எஞ்சிய துண்டுகளைப் பன்னிரண்டு கூடைகள் நிறைய எடுத்தனர்.

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 23-26

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்து நான் எதைப் பெற்றுக் கொண்டேனோ அதையே உங்களிடம் ஒப்படைக்கிறேன். அதாவது, ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு காட்டிக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட அந்த இரவில், அப்பத்தை எடுத்து, கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தி, அதைப் பிட்டு, “இது உங்களுக்கான என் உடல். இதை என் நினைவாகச் செய்யுங்கள்” என்றார். அப்படியே உணவு அருந்தியபின் கிண்ணத்தையும் எடுத்து, “இந்தக் கிண்ணம் என் இரத்தத்தால் நிலைப்படுத்தப்படும் புதிய உடன்படிக்கை. நீங்கள் இதிலிருந்து பருகும் போதெல்லாம் என் நினைவாக இவ்வாறு செய்யுங்கள்” என்றார்.

ஆதலால் நீங்கள் இந்த அப்பத்தை உண்டு கிண்ணத்திலிருந்து பருகும் போதெல்லாம் ஆண்டவருடைய சாவை அவர் வரும்வரை அறிவிக்கிறீர்கள்.

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

இத்தொடர் பாடலை விருப்பம் போல் பயன்படுத்தலாம்: இதை முழுமையாக அல்லது குறுகிய பாடமாக “வானவர் உணவிதோ” என்ற (21ஆம்) அடியிலிருந்தும் சொல்லலாம் அல்லது பாடலாம்.

சீயோனே, உன் மீட்பரைப் புகழ்வாய்,

கீதமும் பாடலும் இசைத்தே உந்தன்

மகிழ்வும் மனதில் பெருகிடல் தகுமே.

பெருஞ்சிறப்பான திருவிழா இன்றே

இத்திரு விருந்தை முதன் முதலாக

நிறுவிய நாளை நினைவுகூர்கின்றோம்.

புதிய பேரரசரின் இத்திருப் பந்தியில்

புதிய ஏற்பாட்டின் புதுத்தனிப் பாஸ்கா

பழைய பாஸ்காவை முடிவுறச் செய்யும்.

புதுமை பழமையைப் போக்குதல் காணீர்,

உண்மை நிழலை ஓட்டுதல் காணீர்,

ஒளியோ இரவை ஒழித்தல் காணீர்.

திருவிருந்ததனில் நிறைவேற்றியதைத்

தம் நினைவாகச் சீடரும் செய்யக்

கட்டளை தந்தார் கிறிஸ்து பெருமான்.

திருக் கட்டளையால் அறிவுரை பெற்று

அப்பமும் இரசமும் மீட்புக்குரிய

பலிப் பொருளாக அர்ச்சிக்கின்றோம்.

அப்பம் மாறி அவர் ஊன் ஆவதும்,

இரசமது மாறி இரத்தமாவதும்

கிறிஸ்துவர்க் கருளிய உண்மையாமே.

புலனையும் அறிவையும் முற்றும் கடந்து,

இயற்கை முறைமைக் கப்பால்,

உள்ளத்தை உறுதியோ டேற்கும் உயிர்விசு வாசம்.

அப்பமும் இரசமும் குணங்களில் வேறாய்

அவற்றின் தோற்றம் மட்டுமே யிருக்க

அற்புத உட்பொருள் மறைவாய் உள்ளதே.

ஊனே உணவு, இரத்தமே பானம்

இருவித குணங்கள் ஒவ்வொன் றுள்ளும்

கிறிஸ்து முழுவதும் உண்டெனக் கொள்வீர்.

உண்பவர் அவரைப் பிய்ப்பதுமில்லை.

உடைப்பதுமில்லை, பிரிப்பதுமில்லை.

அவரை முழுதாய் உண்கின் றனரே.

உண்பவர் ஒருவரோ, ஆயிரம் பேரோ,

ஒருவர் உண்பதையே அனைவரும் உண்பர்;

உண்பதால் என்றுமே தீர்வதுமில்லை.

நல்லவர் உண்பர், தீயரும் உண்பர்

அதனால் அவர் பெறும் பயன் வெவ்வேறாம்

முன்னவர் வாழ்வார், பின்னவர் அழிவார்.

நல்லோர் வாழ்வார், தீயோர் அழிவார்:

உணவொன்றாயினும் எத்துணை வேறாம்

பயன்விளைத் திடுமெனப் பகுத்துணர் வாயே.

அப்ப மதனைப் பிட்ட பின்னரும்

முழுமையில் எதுவோ அதுவே பகுதியில்

உளதாம், அறிந்திடு, ஐயமே வேண்டா.

உட்பொருள் பிளவு படுவதே யில்லை;

குணத்தில் மட்டும் பிடப்படுமே

அவரது நிலையும் உருவும் குறையா.

வானவர் உணவிதோ வழிநடப் போர்க்கும்

உணவா யிற்றே; மக்களின் உணவை

நாய்கட் கெறிதல் நலமா காதே.

ஈசாக் பலியிலும் பாஸ்கா மறியிலும்

நம் முன்னோர்க்குத் தந்த மன்னாவிலும்

இந்தப் பலியின் முன்குறி காண்பீர்.

நல்ல ஆயனே, உண்மை உணவே,

யேசுவே, எம்மேல் இரங்கிடு வீரே,

எமக்குநல் அமுதே ஊட்டிடுவீரே.

நும்திரு மந்தை எம்மைக் காத்து,

நித்திய வாழ்வினர் வாழும் நாட்டில்

நலன்கள் அனைத்தும் காணச் செய்வீர்.

அல்லேலூயா, அல்லேலூயா! 

விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்த வாழ்வு தரும் உணவு நானே. இந்த உணவை எவராவது உண்டால் அவர் என்றுமே வாழ்வார், என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர். அல்லேலூயா.

The feeding of the five thousand

A Reading form the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 9:11-17 

Jesus made the crowds welcome and talked to them about the kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.

  It was late afternoon when the Twelve came to him and said, ‘Send the people away, and they can go to the villages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.’ He replied, ‘Give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they said, ‘We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for all these people.’ For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, ‘Get them to sit down in parties of about fifty.’ They did so and made them all sit down. Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing over them; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd. They all ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets.

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 11: 23-26 

This is what I received from the Lord, and in turn passed on to you: that on the same night that he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, and thanked God for it and broke it, and he said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of me.’ In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.’ Until the Lord comes, therefore, every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are proclaiming his death.

Concealed beneath the two-fold sign,

Meet symbols of the gifts divine,

  There lie the mysteries adored:

The living body is our food;

Our drink the ever-precious blood;

  In each, one undivided Lord.

Not he that eateth it divides

The sacred food, which whole abides

  Unbroken still, nor knows decay;

Be one, or be a thousand fed,

They eat alike that living bread

  Which, still received, ne’er wastes away.

The good, the guilty share therein,

With sure increase of grace or sin,

  The ghostly life, or ghostly death:

Death to the guilty; to the good

Immortal life. See how one food

  Man’s joy or woe accomplisheth.

We break the Sacrament, but bold

And firm thy faith shall keep its hold,

Deem not the whole doth more enfold

  Than in the fractured part resides

Deem not that Christ doth broken lie,

The hidden deep reality

Melchizedek brought bread and wine

A Reading from the Book of Genesis 14: 18-20 

Melchizedek king of Salem brought bread and wine; he was a priest of God Most High. He pronounced this blessing:

‘Blessed be Abram by God Most High, creator of heaven and earth,

and blessed be God Most High for handing over your enemies to you.’ And Abram gave him a tithe of everything.
