A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 13:1-9 ©

Jesus left the house and sat by the lakeside, but such large crowds gathered round him that he got into a boat and sat there. The people all stood on the beach, and he told them many things in parables.

  He said, ‘Imagine a sower going out to sow. As he sowed, some seeds fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up straight away, because there was no depth of earth; but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away. Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Others fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Listen, anyone who has ears!’

Go and say whatever I command you and do not fear

A Reading from the Book of Jeremiah 1: 1,4-10 

The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, of a priestly family living at Anathoth in the territory of Benjamin.

  The word of the Lord was addressed to me, saying,

‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you;

before you came to birth I consecrated you;

I have appointed you as prophet to the nations.’

I said, ‘Ah, Lord; look, I do not know how to speak: I am a child!’

But the Lord replied,

‘Do not say, “I am a child.”

Go now to those to whom I send you

and, say whatever I command you.

Do not be afraid of them,

for I am with you to protect you –

it is the Lord who speaks!’

Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me:

‘There! I am putting my words into your mouth.

Look, today I am setting you

over nations and over kingdoms,

to tear up and to knock down,

to destroy and to overthrow,

to build and to plant.’

அக்காலத்தில்

மக்கள் கூட்டத்தோடு இயேசு பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, அவருடைய தாயும் சகோதரர்களும் வந்து அவருடன் பேச வேண்டும் என்று வெளியே நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தார்கள். ஒருவர் இயேசுவை நோக்கி, “அதோ, உம் தாயும் சகோதரர்களும் உம்மோடு பேச வேண்டும் என்று வெளியே நின்றுகொண்டிருக்கின்றார்கள்” என்றார்.

அவர், இதைத் தம்மிடம் கூறியவரைப் பார்த்து, “என் தாய் யார்? என் சகோதரர்கள் யார்?” என்று கேட்டார். பின் தம் சீடர் பக்கம் கையை நீட்டி, “என் தாயும் சகோதரர்களும் இவர்களே. விண்ணகத்திலுள்ள என் தந்தையின் திருவுளத்தை நிறைவேற்றுபவரே என் சகோதரரும் சகோதரியும் தாயும் ஆவார்” என்றார்.

ஆண்டவரே, உமது உரிமைச் சொத்தாய் இருக்கும் மந்தையாகிய உம்முடைய மக்களை உமது கோலினால் மேய்த்தருளும்! அவர்கள் கர்மேலின் நடுவே காட்டில் தனித்து வாழ்கின்றார்களே! முற்காலத்தில் நடந்தது போல அவர்கள் பாசானிலும் கிலயாதிலும் மேயட்டும்! எகிப்து நாட்டிலிருந்து நீங்கள் புறப்பட்டு வந்த நாளில் நடந்தது போல நான் அவர்களுக்கு வியத்தகு செயல்களைக் காண்பிப்பேன்.

உமக்கு நிகரான இறைவன் யார்? எஞ்சியிருப்போரின் குற்றத்தைப் பொறுத்து நீர் உமது உரிமைச் சொத்தில் எஞ்சியிருப்போரின் தீச்செயலை மன்னிக்கின்றீர்; உமக்கு நிகரானவர் யார்? அவர் தம் சினத்தில் என்றென்றும் நிலைத்திரார்; ஏனெனில், அவர் பேரன்பு கூர்வதில் விருப்பமுடையவர்; அவர் நம்மீது இரக்கம் காட்டுவார்; நம் தீச்செயல்களை மிதித்துப் போடுவார்; நம் பாவங்கள் அனைத்தையும் ஆழ்கடலில் எறிந்து விடுவார். பண்டைய நாளில் எங்கள் மூதாதையருக்கு நீர் ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறியது போல யாக்கோபுக்கு வாக்குப் பிறழாமையையும் ஆபிரகாமுக்குப் பேரன்பையும் காட்டியருள்வீர்.

Jesus was speaking to the crowds when his mother and his brothers appeared; they were standing outside and were anxious to have a word with him. But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, ‘Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?’ And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother.’

Have pity on us one more time

A Reading from the Book of  Micah 7: 14-15,18-20 

With shepherd’s crook, O Lord, lead your people to pasture,

the flock that is your heritage,

living confined in a forest

with meadow land all around.

Let them pasture in Bashan and Gilead

as in the days of old.

As in the days when you came out of Egypt

grant us to see wonders.

What god can compare with you: taking fault away,

pardoning crime,

not cherishing anger for ever

but delighting in showing mercy?

Once more have pity on us,

tread down our faults,

to the bottom of the sea

throw all our sins.

Grant Jacob your faithfulness,

and Abraham your mercy,

as you swore to our fathers

from the days of long ago.

மறைநூல்அறிஞர் சிலரும் பரிசேயர் சிலரும் இயேசுவுக்கு மறுமொழியாக, “போதகரே, நீர் அடையாளம் ஒன்று காட்ட வேண்டும் என விரும்புகிறோம்” என்றனர்.

அதற்கு அவர் கூறியது: “இந்தத் தீய விபசாரத் தலைமுறையினர் அடையாளம் கேட்கின்றனர். இவர்களுக்கு இறைவாக்கினரான யோனாவின் அடையாளத்தைத் தவிர வேறு அடையாளம் எதுவும் கொடுக்கப்படமாட்டாது. யோனா மூன்று பகலும் மூன்று இரவும் ஒரு பெரிய மீனின் வயிற்றில் இருந்தார். அவ்வாறே மானிட மகனும் மூன்று பகலும் மூன்று இரவும் நிலத்தின் உள்ளே இருப்பார்.

தீர்ப்பு நாளில் நினிவே மக்கள் இத்தலைமுறையினரோடு எழுந்து, இவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்வார்கள். ஏனெனில் யோனா அறிவித்த செய்தியைக் கேட்டு அவர்கள் மனம் மாறியவர்கள். ஆனால், இங்கிருப்பவர் யோனாவை விடப் பெரியவர் அல்லவா!

தீர்ப்பு நாளில் தென்னாட்டு அரசி இத்தலைமுறையினரோடு எழுந்து இவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்வார். ஏனெனில் அவர் சாலமோனின் ஞானத்தைக் கேட்க உலகின் கடைக்கோடியிலிருந்து வந்தவர். ஆனால் இங்கிருப்பவர் சாலமோனிலும் பெரியவர் அல்லவா!”
