ஒவ்வொரு மனிதரையும் அவருடைய வழிகளைக் கொண்டே நான் தீர்ப்பிடுவேன்.

ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு எனக்கு அருளப்பட்டது: ‘புளித்த திராட்சைப் பழங்களைப் பெற்றோர் தின்ன, பிள்ளைகளின் பல் கூசிற்றாம்’ என்னும் பழமொழியை இஸ்ரயேல் நாட்டைக் குறித்து நீங்கள் வழங்குவதன் பொருள் என்ன?

என்மேல் ஆணை! என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர். இப்பழமொழி இஸ்ரயேலில் உங்களிடையே வழங்கப்படாது. உயிர் அனைத்தும் எனக்கே சொந்தம். பெற்றோரின் உயிர் என்னுடையது; பிள்ளைகளின் உயிரும் என்னுடையதே. பாவம் செய்யும் உயிரே சாகும்.

ஒருவன் நேர்மையாளனாய் இருந்து நீதியையும், நேர்மையையும் கடைப்பிடித்தால், மலைகளின்மேல் உண்ணாமலும், இஸ்ரயேல் வீட்டாரின் சிலைகளை நோக்கித் தன் கண்களை ஏறெடுக்காமலும், பிறன் மனைவியைக் கறைப்படுத்தாமலும், தீட்டுள்ள பெண்ணை நெருங்காமலும் இருந்தால், அடுத்திருப்பவனை ஒடுக்காமலும் கொள்ளையிடாமலும் இருந்து, கடன் வாங்கியவனுக்கு அடைமானத்தைத் திருப்பிக் கொடுத்து, பசித்தவனுக்குத் தன் உணவைப் பகிர்ந்தளித்து, ஆடையின்றி இருப்பவனுக்கு ஆடை அணிவித்து இருந்தால், வட்டிக்குக் கொடாமலும், கொடுத்ததற்கு அதிகமாய்ப் பெறாமலும் இருந்து, தன் கையால் அநீதி செய்யாது விலகி, மனிதரிடையே எழும் வழக்குகளுக்கு நீதியுடன் தீர்ப்பளித்தால், என் நியமங்களையும் நீதி நெறிகளையும் கடைப்பிடித்து, உண்மையுள்ளவனாக நடந்துகொண்டால், அவன் நீதிமான் ஆவான்; அவன் வாழப்போவது உறுதி, என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர்.

ஆனால், அவனுக்குப் பிறந்த மகன் கட்டுக்கடங்காதவனாயும், இரத்தம் சிந்துபவனாகவும், முன் சொல்லியவற்றுள் ஒன்றைப் பிறருக்குச் செய்பவனாகவும் இருந்தால், அவன் வாழமாட்டான். அருவருப்பான இவற்றையெல்லாம் அவன் செய்துள்ளதால் அவன் சாவது உறுதி. அவனது இரத்தப் பழி அவன் மேலேயே இருக்கும்.

எனவே, இஸ்ரயேல் வீட்டாரே! ஒவ்வொரு மனிதரையும் அவருடைய வழிகளைக் கொண்டே நான் தீர்ப்பிடுவேன், என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர். மனம் மாறி, உங்கள் குற்றங்கள் அனைத்தையும், விட்டு விலகுங்கள். அப்போது தீமை உங்கள் வீழ்ச்சிக்குக் காரணமாய் இராது. எனக்கெதிராக நீங்கள் இழைத்த குற்றங்கள் அனைத்தையும் விட்டு விடுங்கள். புதிய இதயத்தையும், புதிய மனத்தையும் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளுங்கள். இஸ்ரயேல் வீட்டாரே! நீங்கள் ஏன் சாக வேண்டும்? எவருடைய சாவிலும் நான் இன்பம் காண்பதில்லை, என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர். எனவே மனம் மாறி வாழ்வு பெறுங்கள்.

A Reading from the Book of Ezekiel 18: 1-10,13,30-32 

The word of the Lord was addressed to me as follows:

  ‘Why do you keep repeating this proverb in the land of Israel: “The fathers have eaten unripe grapes; and the children’s teeth are set on edge”?

  ‘As I live – it is the Lord who speaks – there will no longer be any reason to repeat this proverb in Israel. See now: all life belongs to me; the father’s life and the son’s life, both alike belong to me. The man who has sinned, he is the one who shall die.

  ‘The upright man is law-abiding and honest; he does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the idols of the House of Israel, does not seduce his neighbour’s wife or sleep with a woman during her periods. He oppresses no one, returns pledges, never steals, gives his own bread to the hungry, his clothes to the naked. He never charges usury on loans, takes no interest, abstains from evil, gives honest judgement between man and man, keeps my laws and sincerely respects my observances – such a man is truly upright. It is the Lord who speaks.

  ‘But if anyone has a son prone to violence and bloodshed, then this son shall certainly not live; having committed all these appalling crimes he will have to die, and his blood be on his own head.

  House of Israel, in future I mean to judge each of you by what he does – it is the Lord who speaks. Repent, renounce all your sins, avoid all occasions of sin! Shake off all the sins you have committed against me, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! Why are you so anxious to die, House of Israel? I take no pleasure in the death of anyone – it is the Lord who speaks. Repent and live!’

அக்காலத்தில்

பரிசேயர் இயேசுவை அணுகி, அவரைச் சோதிக்கும் நோக்குடன், “ஒருவர் தம் மனைவியை எக்காரணத்தையாவது முன்னிட்டு விலக்கி விடுவது முறையா?” என்று கேட்டனர்.

அவர் மறுமொழியாக, “படைப்பின் தொடக்கத்திலேயே கடவுள் ‘ஆணும் பெண்ணுமாக அவர்களைப் படைத்தார்’ என்று நீங்கள் மறைநூலில் வாசித்ததில்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

மேலும் அவர், “இதனால் கணவன் தன் தாய் தந்தையை விட்டுவிட்டுத் தன் மனைவியுடன் ஒன்றித்திருப்பான். இருவரும் ஒரே உடலாய் இருப்பர். இனி அவர்கள் இருவர் அல்ல; ஒரே உடல். எனவே கடவுள் இணைத்ததை மனிதர் பிரிக்காதிருக்கட்டும்” என்றார்.

அவர்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “அப்படியானால் மணவிலக்குச் சான்றிதழைக் கொடுத்து மனைவியை விலக்கி விடலாம் என்று மோசே கட்டளையிட்டது ஏன்?” என்றார்கள்.

அதற்கு அவர், “உங்கள் கடின உள்ளத்தின் பொருட்டே உங்கள் மனைவியரை விலக்கிவிடலாம் என்று மோசே உங்களுக்கு அனுமதி அளித்தார். ஆனால் தொடக்கமுதல் அவ்வாறு இல்லை. பரத்தைமையில் ஈடுபட்டதற்காக அன்றி வேறு எக்காரணத்தையாவது முன்னிட்டுத் தன் மனைவியை விலக்கிவிட்டு வேறொரு பெண்ணை மணப்பவன் எவனும் விபசாரம் செய்கிறான் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார்.

அவருடைய சீடர்கள் அவரை நோக்கி, “கணவர் மனைவியர் உறவு நிலை இத்தகையது என்றால் திருமணம் செய்துகொள்ளாதிருப்பதே நல்லது” என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவர், “அருள்கொடை பெற்றவரன்றி வேறு எவரும் இக்கூற்றை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியாது. சிலர் பிறவியிலேயே மணஉறவு கொள்ள முடியாதவராய் இருக்கின்றனர். வேறு சிலர் மனிதரால் அந்நிலைக்கு ஆளாக்கப்படுகின்றனர். மற்றும் சிலர் விண்ணரசின் பொருட்டு அந்நிலைக்குத் தம்மையே ஆளாக்கிக் கொள்கின்றனர். இதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளக் கூடியவர் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளட்டும்” என்றார்.

அணிகலன்களால் உன்னை அழகு செய்தேன்; கைகளுக்குக் காப்புகளும் கழுத்திற்குச் சங்கிலியும் இட்டேன். மூக்குக்கு மூக்குத்தியும், காதுகளுக்குத் தோடுகளும், தலையில் அழகிய மணிமுடியும் அணிவித்தேன். பொன்னாலும், வெள்ளியாலும், நீ அணி செய்யப்பட்டாய். நார்ப் பட்டும் மெல்லிய துகிலும், பூப் பின்னல் ஆடையும் உன் உடைகள் ஆயின. மாவும், தேனும், எண்ணெயும் உன் உணவாயின. நீ மிக மிக அழகு வாய்ந்தவளாகி, அரச தகுதி பெற்றாய். உன் அழகின் காரணமாக உன் புகழ் வேற்றினத்தாரிடையே பரவிற்று. என் மாட்சி உன்மேல்பட உன் அழகு நிறைவுற்று விளங்கிற்று, என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர். நீயோ உன் அழகில் நம்பிக்கை வைத்து, உன் புகழைப் பணயமாக வைத்து, விலைமகளாகி, வருவோர் போவோரிடம் எல்லாம் வேசித்தனம் செய்தாய்.

ஆயினும் உன் இளமையின் நாள்களில் உன்னோடு செய்த உடன் படிக்கையை நினைவுகூர்ந்து, என்றுமுள உடன்படிக்கையை உன்னோடு செய்வேன்.

நீ செய்ததை எல்லாம் நான் மறைத்திடும்போது, நீ அவற்றை எல்லாம் நினைத்து வெட்கி, இழிவு மிகுதியினால் உன் வாயை ஒருபோதும் திறக்க மாட்டாய், என்கிறார் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 19: 3-12 

Some Pharisees approached Jesus, and to test him they said, ‘Is it against the Law for a man to divorce his wife on any pretext whatever?’ He answered, ‘Have you not read that the creator from the beginning made them male and female and that he said: This is why a man must leave father and mother, and cling to his wife, and the two become one body? They are no longer two, therefore, but one body. So then, what God has united, man must not divide.’

  They said to him, ‘Then why did Moses command that a writ of dismissal should be given in cases of divorce?’ ‘It was because you were so unteachable’ he said ‘that Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but it was not like this from the beginning. Now I say this to you: the man who divorces his wife – I am not speaking of fornication – and marries another, is guilty of adultery.’

  The disciples said to him, ‘If that is how things are between husband and wife, it is not advisable to marry.’ But he replied, ‘It is not everyone who can accept what I have said, but only those to whom it is granted. There are eunuchs born that way from their mother’s womb, there are eunuchs made so by men and there are eunuchs who have made themselves that way for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let anyone accept this who can.’

The word of the Lord was addressed to me as follows, ‘Son of man, confront Jerusalem with her filthy crimes. Say, “The Lord says this: By origin and birth you belong to the land of Canaan. Your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite. At birth, the very day you were born, there was no one to cut your navel-string, or wash you in cleansing water, or rub you with salt, or wrap you in napkins. No one leaned kindly over you to do anything like that for you. You were exposed in the open fields; you were as unloved as that on the day you were born.

  ‘“I saw you struggling in your blood as I was passing, and I said to you as you lay in your blood: Live, and grow like the grass of the fields. You developed, you grew, you reached marriageable age. Your breasts and your hair both grew, but you were quite naked. Then I saw you as I was passing. Your time had come, the time for love. I spread part of my cloak over you and covered your nakedness; I bound myself by oath, I made a covenant with you – it is the Lord who speaks – and you became mine. I bathed you in water, I washed the blood off you, I anointed you with oil. I gave you embroidered dresses, fine leather shoes, a linen headband and a cloak of silk.   ‘“You have become infatuated with your own beauty; you have used your fame to make yourself a prostitute; you have offered your services to all comers. But I will remember the covenant that I made with you when you were a girl, and I will conclude a covenant with you that shall last for ever. And so remember and be covered with shame, and in your confusion be reduced to silence, when I have pardoned you for all that you have done – it is the Lord who speaks.”’
