தொடர்ந்து வரும் ஏழு ஓய்வுஆண்டுகளை - ஏழேழு ஆண்டுகளாக - ஏழுமுறை எண்ணிக்கையிட்டு அவை நாற்பத்தொன்பது ஆண்டுகள் ஆகும். ஏழாம் மாதம் பத்தாம் நாள் எக்காள ஒலி எழட்டும்; பாவக் கழுவாய் நிறைவேற்றும் அந்த நாளில் உங்கள் நாடெங்கும் எக்காளம் முழங்கச் செய்யுங்கள். ஐம்பதாம் ஆண்டைத் தூயதாக்கி, நாட்டில் வாழ்வோருக்கு எல்லாம் தன்னுரிமை அறிவியுங்கள். அது உங்கள் யூபிலி ஆண்டு - அந்த ஆண்டில் நீங்கள் உங்கள் நிலப் பகுதிக்கும் உங்கள் இனத்தாரிடமும் திரும்ப வேண்டும். ஐம்பதாம் ஆண்டு உங்களுக்கு யூபிலி ஆண்டு; அந்த ஆண்டு பயிரிட வேண்டாம்; தானாய் விளைந்ததை அறுக்க வேண்டாம். கிளை நறுக்காத திராட்சைக் கொடியினின்று கனி சேர்க்கவும் வேண்டாம்; ஏனெனில், அந்த ஆண்டு யூபிலி ஆண்டு; அது உங்களுக்குத் தூயது. நிலத்தினின்று அவ்வப்போது கிடைக்கும் பலனை உண்ணுங்கள்.

அந்த யூபிலி ஆண்டில் அவரவர் தம் காணியாட்சிக்குத் திரும்பிச் செல்ல வேண்டும். உங்களுக்குள் ஒருவனுக்கு நிலத்தை விற்கவோ அவனிடத்தில் வாங்கவோ செய்யும்பொழுது ஒருவரை ஒருவர் ஏமாற்றாதிருங்கள். யூபிலி ஆண்டிற்குப் பின், ஆண்டுகளைக் கணக்கிட்டு அவற்றின் எண்ணிக்கைக்கு ஏற்ப வாங்கலாம். பயன்படுத்தும் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஏற்ப அவன் அதை உனக்கு விற்கவேண்டும். பலனைப் பயன்படுத்தும் ஆண்டுகள் எண்ணிக்கை மிகுந்திருந்தால் விலையை உயர்த்த வேண்டும்; குறைந்திருந்தால் விலையைக் குறைக்க வேண்டும். ஏனெனில், பயனுள்ள ஆண்டுகளின் எண்ணிக்கைக்கு ஏற்பவே அவன் விற்கிறான். உங்களுள் எவரும் தம் இனத்தாரை ஏமாற்றலாகாது. கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சி நடங்கள்! ஏனெனில், நானே உங்கள் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர்!

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 14:1-12

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus, and he said to his courtiers, “This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and that is why mighty works show forth in him.” Now Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, for John had said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” Though he wanted to kill him, he feared the people, because they considered John to be a prophet. But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked. Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.” The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and for those who sat with him at table, he commanded it to be given. So he sent and beheaded John in the prison. His head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, and she brought it to her mother. John’s disciples came and took away the body and buried it; then they went and told Jesus.

The Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying: “You shall also number to yourself seven weeks of years, that is, seven times seven years, which together make forty‑nine years.

 And you shall sound the trumpet in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month; on the Day of Atonement you shall sound the trumpet throughout all your land. And you shall consecrate the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee to you: you shall return each to his property, and each to his family. In this fiftieth year you shall not sow, nor reap the aftergrowth of your harvest, nor gather the grapes from the untrimmed vines. You shall eat what the field yields on its own, and that which springs from the tree, you shall eat. “In this year of jubilee you shall return every man to his property. “And if you sell anything to your neighbor, or buy from your neighbor, do not wrong one another. You shall buy from your neighbor at the number of years after the jubilee; and he shall sell to you at the number of years before the jubilee. According to the number of crops he shall sell to you, you shall increase the price, and according to the number of years for which he sells, you shall decrease the price; for he is selling the number of the crops.You shall not wrong each other, but you shall fear your God; for I am the Lord your God.”

இயேசு தமது சொந்த ஊருக்கு வந்து அங்குள்ள தொழுகைக்கூடத்தில் அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பித்தார். அதைக் கேட்டவர்கள் வியப்பில் ஆழ்ந்தார்கள். அவர்கள், “எங்கிருந்து இந்த ஞானம் இவருக்கு வந்தது? எப்படி இந்த வல்ல செயல்களைச் செய்கிறார்? இவர் தச்சருடைய மகன் அல்லவா? இவருடைய தாய் மரியா என்பவர்தானே? யாக்கோபு, யோசேப்பு, சீமோன், யூதா ஆகியோர் இவருடைய சகோதரர் அல்லவா? இவர் சகோதரிகள் எல்லாரும் நம்மோடு இருக்கிறார்கள் அல்லவா? பின் இவருக்கு இவையெல்லாம் எங்கிருந்து வந்தன?” என்றார்கள். இவ்வாறு அவரை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள அவர்கள் தயங்கினார்கள்.

இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “தம் சொந்த ஊரிலும் வீட்டிலும் தவிர மற்றெங்கும் இறைவாக்கினர் மதிப்புப் பெறுவர்” என்றார். அவர்களுக்கு நம்பிக்கை இல்லாததால் அவர் அங்குப் பல வல்ல செயல்களைச் செய்யவில்லை.

அந்த ஏழாம் மாதம் பத்தாம் நாள், பாவக் கழுவாய் நாள்; புனித சபை கூடும் நாள். அன்று நீங்கள் உங்களையே தாழ்த்திக் கொண்டு, ஆண்டவருக்கு எரிபலி செலுத்த வேண்டும்.

Coming to his own country he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brethren James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all this?”

And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.” And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.

A reading from the book of Leviticus 23 :1, 4-11,15-16, 27, 34-37

The LORD said to Moses, “These are the appointed feasts of the LORD, the holy convocations, which you shall proclaim at the time appointed for them. In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening, is the LORD’s passover. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread to the LORD; seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall have a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. But you shall present an offering by fire to the LORD seven days; on the seventh day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work.” And the LORD said to Moses, “Say to the people of Israel, When you come into the land which I give you and reap its harvest, you shall bring the sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest; and he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, that you may find acceptance; on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it. “And you shall count from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven full weeks shall they be, counting fifty days to the morrow after the seventh sabbath; then you shall present a cereal offering of new grain to the LORD.

“On the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement; it shall be for you a time of holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourselves and present an offering by fire to the LORD. “Say to the people of Israel, On the fifteenth day of this seventh month and for seven days is the feast of booths to the LORD.

On the first day shall be a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work. Seven days you shall present offerings by fire to the LORD; on the eighth day you shall hold a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the LORD; it is a solemn assembly; you shall do no laborious work. “These are the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim as times of holy convocation, for presenting to the LORD offerings by fire, burnt offerings and cereal offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each on its proper day.
