You received the Spirit because you believed what was preached.

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Galatians 3:1-5 

Are you people in Galatia mad? Has someone put a spell on you, in spite of the plain explanation you have had of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ? Let me ask you one question: was it because you practised the Law that you received the Spirit, or because you believed what was preached to you? Are you foolish enough to end in outward observances what you began in the Spirit? Have all the favours you received been wasted? And if this were so, they would most certainly have been wasted. Does God give you the Spirit so freely and work miracles among you because you practise Law, or because you believed what was preached to you?

இயேசு சீடர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “உங்களுள் ஒருவர் தம் நண்பரிடம் நள்ளிரவில் சென்று, ‘நண்பா, மூன்று அப்பங்களை எனக்குக் கடனாகக் கொடு. என்னுடைய நண்பர் ஒருவர் பயணம் செய்யும் வழியில் என்னிடம் வந்திருக்கிறார். அவருக்குக் கொடுக்க என்னிடம் ஒன்றுமில்லை’ என்று சொல்வதாக வைத்துக் கொள்வோம். உள்ளே இருப்பவர், ‘எனக்குத் தொல்லை கொடுக்காதே; ஏற்கெனவே கதவு பூட்டியாயிற்று; என் பிள்ளைகளும் என்னோடு படுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். நான் எழுந்திருந்து உனக்குத் தர முடியாது’ என்பார்.

எனினும் அவர் விடாப்பிடியாய்க் கதவைத் தட்டிக்கொண்டே இருந்தால் அவர் தம் நண்பர் என்பதற்காக எழுந்து கொடுக்காவிட்டாலும், அவரது தொல்லையின் பொருட்டாவது எழுந்து அவருக்குத் தேவையானதைக் கொடுப்பார் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

மேலும் நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: கேளுங்கள், உங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படும்; தேடுங்கள், நீங்கள் கண்டடைவீர்கள்; தட்டுங்கள் உங்களுக்குத் திறக்கப்படும். ஏனெனில் கேட்போர் எல்லாரும் பெற்றுக் கொள்கின்றனர்; தேடுவோர் கண்டடைகின்றனர்; தட்டுவோருக்குத் திறக்கப்படும்.

பிள்ளை மீனைக் கேட்டால் உங்களுள் எந்தத் தந்தையாவது மீனுக்குப் பதிலாகப் பாம்பைக் கொடுப்பாரா? முட்டையைக் கேட்டால் அவர் தேளைக் கொடுப்பாரா? தீயோர்களாகிய நீங்களே உங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு நற்கொடைகள் அளிக்க அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்கள். அப்படியானால் விண்ணகத் தந்தை தம்மிடம் கேட்போருக்குத் தூய ஆவியைக் கொடுப்பது எத்துணை உறுதி!”

Once Jesus was in a certain place praying, and when he had finished, one of his disciples said, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’

They recognised the grace that God had given me.

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Galatians 2:1-2,7-14. 

It was not till fourteen years had passed that I went up to Jerusalem again. I went with Barnabas and took Titus with me. I went there as the result of a revelation, and privately I laid before the leading men the Goo

d News as I proclaim it among the pagans; I did so for fear the course I was adopting or had already adopted would not be allowed. On the contrary, they recognised that I had been commissioned to preach the Good News to the uncircumcised just as Peter had been commissioned to preach it to the circumcised. The same person whose action had made Peter the apostle of the circumcised had given me a similar mission to the pagans. So, James, Cephas and John, these leaders, these pillars, shook hands with Barnabas and me as a sign of partnership: we were to go to the pagans and they to the circumcised. The only thing they insisted on was that we should remember to help the poor, as indeed I was anxious to do.

  When Cephas came to Antioch, however, I opposed him to his face, since he was manifestly in the wrong. His custom had been to eat with the pagans, but after certain friends of James arrived he stopped doing this and kept away from them altogether for fear of the group that insisted on circumcision. The other Jews joined him in this pretence, and even Barnabas felt himself obliged to copy their behaviour.

  When I saw they were not respecting the true meaning of the Good News, I said to Cephas in front of everyone, ‘In spite of being a Jew, you live like the pagans and not like the Jews, so you have no right to make the pagans copy Jewish ways.’

இயேசு ஓரிடத்தில் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டிக் கொண்டிருந்தார். அது முடிந்ததும் அவருடைய சீடர்களுள் ஒருவர் அவரை நோக்கி, “ஆண்டவரே, யோவான் தம் சீடருக்கு இறைவனிடம் வேண்டக் கற்றுக்கொடுத்தது போல் எங்களுக்கும் கற்றுக்கொடும்” என்றார்.

அவர் அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும்பொழுது இவ்வாறு சொல்லுங்கள்: தந்தையே, உமது பெயர் தூயதெனப் போற்றப் பெறுக! உமது ஆட்சி வருக! எங்கள் அன்றாட உணவை நாள்தோறும் எங்களுக்குத் தாரும். எங்களுக்கு எதிராகக் குற்றம் செய்வோர் அனைவரையும் நாங்கள் மன்னிப்பதால் எங்கள் பாவங்களையும் மன்னியும். எங்களைச் சோதனைக்கு உட்படுத்தாதேயும். தீயோனிடமிருந்து எங்களை விடுவித்தருளும்” என்று கற்பித்தார்.
