சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நீங்கள் அனைவரும் என்னைப் போல் வாழுங்கள். நாங்கள் உங்களுக்குக் காட்டிய முன்மாதிரியின்படி வாழ்பவர்களைப் பின்பற்றுங்கள். கிறிஸ்துவின் சிலுவைக்குப் பகைவர்களாய் நடப்போர் பலர் உள்ளனர். அவர்களைப் பற்றி மீண்டும் மீண்டும் உங்களிடம் கூறியுள்ளேன். இப்பொழுதும் கண்ணீரோடு சொல்கிறேன். அழிவே அவர்கள் முடிவு; வயிறே அவர்கள் தெய்வம்; மானக்கேடே அவர்கள் பெருமை; அவர்கள் எண்ணுவதெல்லாம் மண்ணுலகைச் சார்ந்தவை பற்றியே.

நமக்கோ விண்ணகமே தாய்நாடு; அங்கிருந்துதான் மீட்பராம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து வருவாரெனக் காத்திருக்கிறோம். அவர் தமது ஆற்றலால் தாழ்வுக்குரிய நம் உடலை மாட்சிக்குரிய தமது உடலின் சாயலாக உருமாற்றவும் அனைத்தையும் தமக்குப் பணியவைக்கவும் வல்லவர்.

ஆகவே என் அன்பார்ந்த சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, என் வாஞ்சைக்கு உரியவர்களே, நீங்களே என் மகிழ்ச்சி; நீங்களே, என் வெற்றி வாகை; அன்பர்களே, ஆண்டவரோடுள்ள உறவில் நிலைத்திருங்கள்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel accordingto St.Luke 15:1-10 

The tax collectors and the sinners were all seeking the company of Jesus to hear what he had to say, and the Pharisees and the scribes complained. ‘This man’ they said ‘welcomes sinners and eats with them.’ So he spoke this parable to them:

  ‘What man among you with a hundred sheep, losing one, would not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the missing one till he found it? And when he found it, would he not joyfully take it on his shoulders and then, when he got home, call together his friends and neighbours? “Rejoice with me,” he would say “I have found my sheep that was lost.” In the same way, I tell you, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one repentant sinner than over ninety-nine virtuous men who have no need of repentance.

  ‘Or again, what woman with ten drachmas would not, if she lost one, light a lamp and sweep out the house and search thoroughly till she found it? And then, when she had found it, call together her friends and neighbours? “Rejoice with me,” she would say “I have found the drachma I lost.” In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing among the angels of God over one repentant sinner.’

I was faultless according to the Law; but without knowing Christ I was nothing.

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Philippians 3:3-8 .

We are the real people of the circumcision, we who worship in accordance with the Spirit of God; we have our own glory from Christ Jesus without having to rely on a physical operation. If it came to relying on physical evidence, I should be fully qualified myself. Take any man who thinks he can rely on what is physical: I am even better qualified. I was born of the race of Israel and of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrew parents, and I was circumcised when I was eight days old. As for the Law, I was a Pharisee; as for working for religion, I was a persecutor of the Church; as far as the Law can make you perfect, I was faultless. But because of Christ, I have come to consider all these advantages that I had as disadvantages. Not only that, but I believe nothing can happen that will outweigh the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.

லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 15: 1-10

அக்காலத்தில்

வரிதண்டுவோர், பாவிகள் யாவரும் இயேசு சொல்வதைக் கேட்க அவரிடம் நெருங்கி வந்தனர்.

பரிசேயரும் மறைநூல் அறிஞரும், “இவர் பாவிகளை வரவேற்று அவர்களோடு உணவருந்துகிறாரே” என்று முணுமுணுத்தனர்.

அப்போது அவர் அவர்களுக்கு இந்த உவமையைச் சொன்னார்: “உங்களுள் ஒருவரிடம் இருக்கும் நூறு ஆடுகளுள் ஒன்று காணாமற் போனால் அவர் தொண்ணூற்றொன்பது ஆடுகளையும் பாலை நிலத்தில் விட்டுவிட்டு, காணாமற்போனதைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கும்வரை தேடிச் செல்ல மாட்டாரா?

கண்டுபிடித்ததும், அவர் அதை மகிழ்ச்சியோடு தம் தோள்மேல் போட்டுக் கொள்வார்; வீட்டுக்கு வந்து, நண்பர்களையும் அண்டை வீட்டாரையும் அழைத்து, ‘என்னோடு மகிழுங்கள்; ஏனெனில் காணாமற்போன என் ஆட்டைக் கண்டுபிடித்து விட்டேன்’ என்பார்.

அது போலவே மனம் மாறத் தேவையில்லாத் தொண்ணூற்றொன்பது நேர்மையாளர்களைக் குறித்து உண்டாகும் மகிழ்ச்சியை விட, மனம் மாறிய ஒரு பாவியைக் குறித்து விண்ணுலகில் மிகுதியான மகிழ்ச்சி உண்டாகும் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

பெண் ஒருவரிடம் இருந்த பத்துத் திராக்மாக்களுள் ஒன்று காணாமற்போய்விட்டால் அவர் எண்ணெய் விளக்கை ஏற்றி வீட்டைப் பெருக்கி அதைக் கண்டுபிடிக்கும்வரை கவனமாகத் தேடுவதில்லையா?

கண்டுபிடித்ததும், அவர் தோழியரையும் அண்டை வீட்டாரையும் அழைத்து, ‘என்னோடு மகிழுங்கள், ஏனெனில் காணாமற் போன திராக்மாவைக் கண்டுபிடித்துவிட்டேன்’ என்பார்.

அவ்வாறே மனம் மாறிய ஒரு பாவியைக் குறித்துக் கடவுளின் தூதரிடையே மகிழ்ச்சி உண்டாகும் என உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

உடலைச் சார்ந்தவற்றில் உறுதியான நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளாமல், கடவுளின் ஆவிக்கேற்ப வழிபட்டுக் கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவைப் பெருமைப்படுத்தும் நாமே உண்மையான விருத்தசேதனம் செய்து கொண்டவர்கள். உடலைச் சார்ந்தவற்றில் உறுதியான நம்பிக்கை வைக்கவேண்டுமானால் நானும் வைக்கலாம். உடலைச் சார்ந்தவற்றில் உறுதியான நம்பிக்கை கொள்ள முடியும் என யாராவது நினைத்தால், அவரை விட மிகுதியாக நானும் நம்பிக்கை கொள்ள முடியும். நான் பிறந்த எட்டாம் நாள் விருத்தசேதனம் பெற்றவன்; இஸ்ரயேல் இனத்தவன்; பென்யமின் குலத்தவன்; எபிரேயப் பெற்றோருக்குப் பிறந்த எபிரேயன்; திருச்சட்டத்தைக் கடைப்பிடிப்பதில் பரிசேயன். திருச்சட்டத்தில் எனக்கிருந்த ஆர்வத்தால் திருச்சபையைத் துன்புறுத்தினேன். திருச்சட்டத்தின் அடிப்படையிலான நீதிநெறியைப் பொறுத்தமட்டில் குற்றமற்றவனாய் இருந்தேன்.

ஆனால் எனக்கு ஆதாயமான இவை அனைத்தும் கிறிஸ்துவின் பொருட்டு இழப்பு எனக் கருதினேன். உண்மையில், என்னைப் பொறுத்தமட்டில் என் ஆண்டவராம் கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவைப் பற்றிய அறிவே நான் பெறும் ஒப்பற்ற செல்வம். இதன் பொருட்டு மற்ற எல்லாவற்றையும் இழப்பாகக் கருதுகிறேன். அவர் பொருட்டு நான் அனைத்தையும் இழந்துவிட்டேன். கிறிஸ்துவை ஆதாயமாக்கிக்கொள்ள எல்லாவற்றையும் குப்பையாகக் கருதுகிறேன்.

Anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 14:25-33 

Great crowds accompanied Jesus on his way and he turned and spoke to them. ‘If any man comes to me without hating his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple. Anyone who does not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

  ‘And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out the cost to see if he had enough to complete it? Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work, the onlookers would all start making fun of him and saying, “Here is a man who started to build and was unable to finish.” Or again, what king marching to war against another king would not first sit down and consider whether with ten thousand men he could stand up to the other who advanced against him with twenty thousand? If not, then while the other king was still a long way off, he would send envoys to sue for peace. So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions.’

Work for your salvation, for God is working in you

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Philippians 2:12-18. 

My dear friends, continue to do as I tell you, as you always have; not only as you did when I was there with you, but even more now that I am no longer there; and work for your salvation ‘in fear and trembling.’ It is God, for his own loving purpose, who puts both the will and the action into you. Do all that has to be done without complaining or arguing and then you will be innocent and genuine, perfect children of God among a deceitful and underhand brood, and you will shine in the world like bright stars because you are offering it the word of life. This would give me something to be proud of for the Day of Christ, and would mean that I had not run in the race and exhausted myself for nothing. And then, if my blood has to be shed as part of your own sacrifice and offering – which is your faith – I shall still be happy and rejoice with all of you, and you must be just as happy and rejoice with me.
