"The good shepherd gives his life for his sheep" 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (10, 11-18) 

At that time, Jesus declared: “I am the good shepherd, the true shepherd, who gives his life for his sheep. The hired shepherd is not the shepherd, the sheep are not his: if he sees the wolf coming, he forsakes the sheep and flees; the wolf grabs them and scatters them. This shepherd is just a hireling, and the sheep don't really matter to him. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep, and my sheep know me, as the Father knows me, and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep. I still have other sheep, which are not from this enclosure: these too, I must lead them. They will listen to my voice: there will be one flock and one shepherd. This is why the Father loves me: because I give my life, to receive it again. No one can take it away from me: I give it of myself. I have the power to give it, I also have the power to receive it again: this is the commandment that I received from my Father. "

Beloved, see what great love the Father has given us to be called children of God - and we are. This is why the world does not know us: it is because it did not know God. Beloved, from now on we are children of God, but what we will be has not yet been manifested. We know it: when it is manifested, we will be like him because we will see him as he is.

In those days, Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, declared: “Rulers of the people and elders, we are questioned today for having done good to a cripple, and we are asked how this man was. Safe. Know this therefore, all of you and all the people of Israel: it is by the name of Jesus the Nazarene, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, it is through him that this man is there in front of you, well. This Jesus is the stone despised by you, the builders, but has become the cornerstone. In none other than him there is salvation, for under heaven no other name is given to men that can save us. "

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு நிலைவாழ்வு அளிக்கும் உணவு பற்றி கற்பித்துக்கொண்டிருந்த பொழுது, சீடர் பலர் இதைக் கேட்டு, “இதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வது மிகக் கடினம்; இப்பேச்சை இன்னும் கேட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்க முடியுமா?” என்று பேசிக்கொண்டனர். இதுபற்றித் தம் சீடர் முணுமுணுப்பதை இயேசு உணர்ந்து அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் நம்புவதற்கு இது தடையாய் இருக்கிறதா? அப்படியானால் மானிடமகன் தாம் முன்பு இருந்த இடத்திற்கு ஏறிச் செல்வதை நீங்கள் கண்டால் அது உங்களுக்கு எப்படி இருக்கும்? வாழ்வு தருவது தூய ஆவியே; ஊனியல்பு ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாது. நான் கூறிய வார்த்தைகள் வாழ்வு தரும் ஆவியைக் கொடுக்கின்றன. அப்படியிருந்தும் உங்களுள் சிலர் என்னை நம்பவில்லை” என்றார்.

நம்பாதோர் யார் யார் என்பதும், தம்மைக் காட்டிக்கொடுக்க இருப்பவன் யார் என்பதும் இயேசுவுக்குத் தொடக்கத்திலிருந்தே தெரிந்திருந்தது. மேலும் அவர், “இதன் காரணமாகத்தான் ‘என் தந்தை அருள்கூர்ந்தால் அன்றி யாரும் என்னிடம் வர இயலாது’ என்று உங்களுக்குக் கூறினேன்” என்றார்.

அன்றே இயேசுவின் சீடருள் பலர் அவரைவிட்டு விலகினர். அன்று முதல் அவர்கள் அவரோடு சேர்ந்து செல்லவில்லை. இயேசு பன்னிரு சீடரிடம், “நீங்களும் போய்விட நினைக்கிறீர்களா?” என்று கேட்டார். சீமோன் பேதுரு மறுமொழியாக, “ஆண்டவரே நாங்கள் யாரிடம் போவோம்? நிலைவாழ்வு அளிக்கும் வார்த்தைகள் உம்மிடம்தானே உள்ளன. நீரே கடவுளுக்கு அர்ப்பணமானவர் என்பதை நாங்கள் அறிந்துகொண்டோம். அதை நம்புகிறோம்” என்றார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

யூதேயா, கலிலேயா, சமாரியா ஆகிய பகுதிகளில் எல்லாம் திருச்சபை வளர்ச்சியுற்று, ஆண்டவருக்கு அஞ்சி நடந்து, அமைதியில் திளைத்து, தூய ஆவியாரின் துணையால் பெருகிவந்தது.

பேதுரு எல்லா இடங்களுக்கும் சென்று வந்தார்; ஒரு நாள் லித்தாவில் வாழ்ந்த இறைமக்களிடம் வந்து சேர்ந்தார். அங்கே அவர் எட்டு ஆண்டுகள் முடக்குவாதத்தால் படுக்கையில் கிடந்த ஐனேயா என்னும் பெயருடைய ஒருவரைக் கண்டார்; அவரிடம், “ஐனேயா, இயேசு கிறிஸ்து உம் பிணியைப் போக்குகிறார்; எழுந்து உம் படுக்கையை நீரே சரிப்படுத்தும்” என்று பேதுரு கூறினார். உடனே அவர் எழுந்தார். லித்தாவிலும் சாரோனிலும் வாழ்ந்து வந்தவர்கள் அனைவரும் அதைக் கண்டு ஆண்டவரிடம் திரும்பினார்கள்.

யோப்பா நகரில் தபித்தா என்னும் பெயருடைய பெண் சீடர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் தொற்கா என்றும் அழைக்கப்பட்டார்; நன்மை செய்வதிலும் இரக்கச் செயல்கள் புரிவதிலும் அவர் முற்றிலும் ஈடுபட்டிருந்தார். உடல்நலம் குன்றி ஒரு நாள் அவர் இறந்துவிட்டார். அங்கிருந்தோர் அவரது உடலைக் குளிப்பாட்டி மேல்மாடியில் கிடத்தியிருந்தனர். யோப்பாவிற்கு அருகிலுள்ள லித்தாவுக்குப் பேதுரு வந்திருப்பதைச் சீடர்கள் கேள்விப்பட்டு இருவரை அவரிடம் அனுப்பி, “எங்களிடம் உடனே வாருங்கள்” என்று கெஞ்சிக் கேட்டார்கள்.

பேதுரு புறப்பட்டு அவர்களோடு வந்தார். வந்ததும் அவர்கள் அவரை மேல்மாடிக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார்கள். கைம்பெண்கள் அவரருகில் வந்து நின்று, தொற்கா தங்களோடு இருந்தபோது செய்துகொடுத்த எல்லா அங்கிகளையும் ஆடைகளையும் காண்பித்தவாறே அழுதார்கள். பேதுரு அனைவரையும் வெளியே அனுப்பிவிட்டு, முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினார்; அவரது உடலின் பக்கமாகத் திரும்பி, “தபித்தா, எழுந்திடு” என்றார். உடனே அவர் கண்களைத் திறந்து பேதுருவைக் கண்டு, எழுந்து உட்கார்ந்தார். பேதுரு அவருடைய கையைப் பிடித்து எழுந்து நிற்கச் செய்தார். இறைமக்களையும் கைம்பெண்களையும் கூப்பிட்டு, அவர்கள்முன் அவரை உயிருடன் நிறுத்தினார்.

இது யோப்பா நகர் முழுவதும் தெரிய வரவே, ஆண்டவர்மீது பலர் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டனர்.

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (6, 60-69) 

At that time, Jesus had given a teaching in the synagogue of Capernaum. Many of his disciples, who had heard, said: “This is a harsh saying! Who can hear it? Jesus knew to himself that his disciples were complaining about him. He said to them: "Does this scandalize you? And when you see the Son of man ascend where he was before!… It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is not capable of anything. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. But there are some among you who do not believe. Jesus knew from the beginning who were those who disbelieved, and who it was who would betray him. He added: “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is given to him by the Father. "

"The Church was being built, comforted by the Holy Spirit" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (9, 31-42) 

In those days the Church was at peace throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria; she was building herself and she walked in the fear of the Lord; comforted by the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.

Now it happened that Peter, traveling all over the country, also went to the faithful who lived in Lod. There he found a man named Eneas, who had been bedridden for eight years because he was paralyzed. Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you, get up and make your bed yourself. And immediately he got up. Then all the inhabitants of Lod and the plain of Sarone could see him, and they were converted, turning to the Lord.

There was also in Jaffa a woman disciple of the Lord named Tabitha, which translates as: Dorcas (ie: Gazelle). She was rich in the good works and alms she did. Now it happened in those days that she fell ill and died. After the funeral toilet, she was placed in the upper room. As Lod is near Jaffa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent him two men with this appeal: “Come to us without delay. Pierre set off with them.

On his arrival he was taken up to the upper room. All the widows in tears approached him; they showed her the tunics and coats made by Dorcas when she was with them.
