SECOND READING 

"The fruit of 

the Spirit" 

Reading from the letter of Saint Paul the apostle to the Galatians (5, 16-25) 

Brothers, I tell you: walk under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and you will not risk satisfying the lusts of the flesh. For the tendencies of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the tendencies of the Spirit are against the flesh. Indeed, there is a clash that prevents you from doing whatever you want. But if you let yourself be led by the Spirit, you are not subject to the Law. We know well what actions the flesh leads to: misconduct, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts, intrigues, divisions, bigotry, envy, drinking, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I have already done: those who commit such acts will not inherit the kingdom of God. But here is the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, benevolence, loyalty, gentleness and self-control. In these areas, the law does not intervene. Those who belong to Christ Jesus crucified the flesh in themselves, with its passions and its lusts. Since the Spirit gives us life, let us walk under the guidance of the Spirit.

"All were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak" 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (2, 1-11) 

When the day of Pentecost arrived, at the end of the fifty days after Easter, they were all gathered together. Suddenly a noise arose from the sky like a violent gust of wind: the house where they were sitting was completely filled with it. Then there appeared to them tongues which might have been called fire, which were divided, and one landed on each of them. All were filled with the Holy Spirit: they began to speak in other languages, and each spoke according to the gift of the Spirit.

Now there were religious Jews residing in Jerusalem from all the nations under heaven. When they heard the resounding voice, they gathered in crowds. They were in great confusion because each of them could hear those who spoke in their own dialect. In amazement and wonder, they would say: "Are not these speaking people all Galileans?" How is it that each of us hears them in our own dialect, our mother tongue? Parthians, Medes and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, the province of Pontus and that of Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the regions of Libya close to Cyrene, passing Romans, Jews by birth and converts, Cretans and Arabs, we all hear them speaking in our tongues of the wonders of God. "

அக்காலத்தில்

பேதுரு திரும்பிப் பார்த்தபோது, இயேசுவின் அன்புச் சீடரும் பின்தொடர்கிறார் என்று கண்டார். இவரே இரவு உணவின்போது இயேசுவின் அருகில் அவர் மார்புப் பக்கமாய்ச் சாய்ந்துகொண்டு, “ஆண்டவரே உம்மைக் காட்டிக் கொடுப்பவன் எவன்?” என்று கேட்டவர். அவரைக் கண்ட பேதுரு இயேசுவிடம், “ஆண்டவரே, இவருக்கு என்ன ஆகும்?” என்று கேட்டார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “நான் வரும்வரை இவன் இருக்க வேண்டும் என நான் விரும்பினால் உனக்கு என்ன? நீ என்னைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து வா” என்றார்.

ஆகையால் அந்தச் சீடர் இறக்கமாட்டார் என்னும் பேச்சு சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளிடையே பரவியது. ஆனால் இவர் இறக்கமாட்டார் என இயேசு கூறவில்லை. மாறாக, “நான் வரும்வரை இவன் இருக்க வேண்டும் என நான் விரும்பினால், உனக்கு என்ன?” என்றுதான் கூறினார்.

இந்தச் சீடரே இவற்றிற்குச் சாட்சி. இவரே இவற்றை எழுதி வைத்தவர். இவரது சான்று உண்மையானது என நமக்குத் தெரியும். இயேசு செய்தவை வேறு பலவும் உண்டு. அவற்றை ஒவ்வொன்றாக எழுதினால், எழுதப்படும் நூல்களை உலகமே கொள்ளாது எனக் கருதுகிறேன்.

பவுல் உரோமையில் தங்கி, இறையாட்சியைக் குறித்துப் பறைசாற்றி வந்தார்.

திருத்தூதர் பணிகள் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 28: 16-20, 30-31

உரோமையில் தனி வீட்டில் தங்கியிருக்க பவுல் அனுமதி பெற்றுக்கொண்டார். ஆனால் படைவீரர் ஒருவர் அவரைக் காவல் காத்து வந்தார். மூன்று நாள்களுக்குப் பின்பு பவுல் யூத முதன்மைக் குடிமக்களைத் தம்மிடம் வரவழைத்தார். அவர்கள் வந்து கூடியபின் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “சகோதரரே, நான் நம்முடைய மக்களுக்கு எதிராகவோ, மூதாதையரின் மரபுகளுக்கு எதிராகவோ எதுவும் செய்யவில்லை. எனினும் எருசலேமில் நான் கைதுசெய்யப்பட்டு உரோமையரிடம் ஒப்புவிக்கப்பட்டேன். அவர்கள் என்னை விசாரித்தபோது மரண தண்டனைக்குரிய குற்றம் எதுவும் என்னிடம் காணாததால் என்னை விடுதலை செய்ய விரும்பினார்கள்.

யூதர்கள் அதனை எதிர்த்துப் பேசியபோது நான், “சீசரே என்னை விசாரிக்கவேண்டும்” என்று கேட்கவேண்டிய கட்டாயத்துக்குள்ளானேன். ஆனால் என் இனத்தவர்க்கு எதிரான குற்றச்சாட்டு எதுவும் என்னிடமில்லை. இதனால்தான் நான் உங்களைக் கண்டு பேசுவதற்காக அழைத்தேன். இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் கொண்டிருக்கும் நம்பிக்கையின் பொருட்டு நான் விலங்கிடப்பட்டுள்ளேன்” என்றார்.

பவுல் அங்கு இரண்டு ஆண்டுகள் முழுவதும் தாம் வாடகைக்கு எடுத்த வீட்டில் தங்கியிருந்தார். தம்மிடம் வந்த அனைவரையும் வரவேற்று இறையாட்சியைக் குறித்துப் பறைசாற்றி வந்தார். ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவைப்பற்றி முழுத் துணிவோடு தடை ஏதுமின்றிக் கற்பித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

“It is this disciple who wrote these things; his testimony is true ” 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (21, 20-25), 

At that time, Jesus had just said to Peter: “Follow me. »Turning around, Peter sees, walking after them, the disciple whom Jesus loved. It was he who, during the meal, leaned on Jesus' breast to say to him: "Lord, who is it who is going to hand you over? Peter, seeing therefore this disciple, said to Jesus: "And him, Lord, what will happen to him? "Jesus answered him:" If I want him to remain until I come, what does it matter to you? You follow me. So there was a rumor among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Now, Jesus did not tell Peter that he would not die, but: “If I want him to stay until I come, what does that matter to you? "

It is this disciple who testifies of these things and who wrote them down, and we know that his testimony is true. There are still many other things that Jesus did; and if each one had to be written, I think the whole world would not be enough to contain the books that one would write.

Reading from the letter of Saint Paul the apostle to the Philippians (4, 4-9) 

Brothers, always be in the joy of the Lord; I say it again: be in joy. May your benevolence be known to all men. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but, in all circumstances, pray and beg, while giving thanks, to make your requests known to God. And the peace of God, which is beyond all conceivable, will keep your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Finally, my brethren, all that is true and noble, all that is just and pure, all that is worthy of being loved and honored, all that is called virtue and that deserves praise, all this, take - take it into account. What you have learned and received, what you have seen and heard from me, put into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

“Paul stayed in Rome; he announced the reign of God ” 

A Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (28, 16-20.30-31) 

When we arrived in Rome, Paul was given permission to live in the city with the soldier guarding him. Three days later, he summoned the notables of the Jews. When they arrived, he said to them: “Brothers, I who did nothing against our people and the customs received from our fathers, I am a prisoner from Jerusalem where I was delivered into the hands of the Romans. After questioning me, they wanted to release me, since, in my case, there was no reason for a death sentence. But, faced with the opposition of the Jews, I was obliged to appeal to the emperor, without wanting to accuse my nation. It is therefore for this reason that I asked to see you and to speak to you, because it is because of the hope of Israel that I wear these chains. "

Paul stayed two full years in the lodgings he had rented; he welcomed all who came to his home; he proclaimed the reign of God and he taught about the Lord Jesus Christ with complete assurance and without hindrance.
