GOSPEL 

"I am the living bread which came down from heaven" 

Alleluia. Alleluia.

I am the living bread which came down from heaven,

says the Lord;

if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.

At that time,

    the Jews complained against Jesus 

because he had declared: 

“I am the bread which came down from heaven. " 

    They said, 

" This one is not it Jesus, son of Joseph? 

We know his father and mother well. 

So how can he say now, 

'I have come down from heaven'? " 

    Jesus spoke again: 

" Do not complain among yourselves. 

    No one can come to me 

unless the Father who sent me draws him, 

and I will raise him up at the last day. 

    It is written in the prophets: 

They will all be instructed by God himself. 

Anyone who has heard the Father and received his teaching 

comes to me. 

    Certainly, no one has ever seen the Father, 

except the one who comes from God: 

he alone has seen the Father. 

    Amen, amen, I tell you 

, he who believes has eternal life. 

    I am the bread of life. 

    In the wilderness your fathers ate the manna, 

and they died; 

    but the bread which comes down from heaven is such 

that he who eats it will not die.

    I am the living bread 

which came down from heaven: 

if anyone eats of this bread, 

he will live forever. 

The bread that I will give is my flesh, 

given for the life of the world. " 

    - Let us acclaim the Word of God.

Reading of the letter of Saint Paul the apostle to the Ephesians 4, 30 - 5, 2 

Brethren,

do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, 

who has marked you with his seal

for the day of your deliverance. 

    Bitterness, irritation, anger, loud voices or insults, 

all of these must be eliminated from your life, 

along with any kind of nastiness. 

    Be between yourselves full of generosity and tenderness. 

Forgive one another, 

as God forgave you in Christ. 

Yes, seek to imitate God, 

since you are his beloved children. 

    Live in love, 

as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, 

offering himself as a sacrifice to God, 

like a perfume of pleasant odor.

"Strengthened by this food, he walked to the mountain of God" 

Reading of the first book of Kings 19, 4-8 

In those days 

the prophet Elijah, fleeing the hostility of Queen Jezebel,

    walked all day in the wilderness.

He came and sat down in the shade of a bush, 

and asked for death, saying, 

"Now, Lord, this is too much!" 

Take back my life: 

I'm no better than my fathers. " 

    Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. 

But behold, an angel touched him and said to him, 

"Arise, and eat!" " 

    He looked, and there was at his head 

a cake baked on hot stones and a jar of water. 

He ate, he drank, and fell asleep again.

    A second time the angel of the Lord touched him and said to him: 

"Arise, and eat, 

for it is long, the way which remains to you. " 

    Elijah got up, ate and drank. 

Then, fortified by this food, 

he walked forty days and forty nights 

to Horeb, the mountain of God.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசுவும் சீடர்களும் மக்கள் கூட்டத்தினரிடம் வந்தபோது ஒருவர் இயேசுவை அணுகி அவர் முன் முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு, “ஐயா, என் மகனுக்கு இரங்கும்; அவன் வலிப்பு நோயால் பெரிதும் துன்புறுகிறான். அடிக்கடி தீயிலும் தண்ணீரிலும் விழுகிறான். உம் சீடர்களிடம் அவனைக் கொண்டு வந்தேன்; அவனைக் குணமாக்க அவர்களால் முடியவில்லை” என்றார். அதற்கு இயேசு, “நம்பிக்கையற்ற சீரழிந்த தலைமுறையினரே, எவ்வளவு காலம் நான் உங்களோடு இருக்க இயலும்? எவ்வளவு காலம் நான் உங்களைப் பொறுத்துக்கொள்ள இயலும்? அவனை என்னிடம் இங்கே கொண்டு வாருங்கள்” என்று கூறினார். கொண்டு வந்ததும் இயேசு அப்பேயைக் கடிந்துகொள்ளவே, அது அவனை விட்டு வெளியேறியது. அந்நேரமே சிறுவன் குணமடைந்தான். பின்பு சீடர்கள் தனிமையாக இயேசுவை அணுகி வந்து, “அதை ஏன் எங்களால் ஓட்ட இயலவில்லை?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.

இயேசு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “உங்கள் நம்பிக்கைக் குறைவுதான் காரணம். உங்களுக்கு கடுகளவு நம்பிக்கை இருந்தால் நீங்கள் இம்மலையைப் பார்த்து ‘இங்கிருந்து பெயர்ந்து அங்குப் போ’ எனக் கூறினால், அது பெயர்ந்து போகும். உங்களால் முடியாதது ஒன்றும் இராது என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்” என்றார்.

மோசே மக்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது:

இஸ்ரயேலே, செவிகொடு! நம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் ஒருவரே ஆண்டவர். உன் முழு இதயத்தோடும், உன் முழு உள்ளத்தோடும், உன் முழு ஆற்றலோடும் உன் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரிடம் அன்பு கூர்வாயாக!

இன்று நான் உனக்குக் கட்டளையிடும் இவ்வார்த்தைகள் உன் உள்ளத்தில் இருக்கட்டும். நீ அவற்றை உன் பிள்ளைகளின் உள்ளத்தில் பதியுமாறு சொல். உன் வீட்டில் இருக்கும்போதும், உன் வழிப்பயணத்தின்போதும், நீ படுக்கும்போதும், எழும்போதும் அவற்றைப் பற்றிப் பேசு. உன் கையில் அடையாளமாக அவற்றைக் கட்டிக்கொள். உன் கண்களுக்கிடையே அடையாளப் பட்டமாக அவை இருக்கட்டும். உன் வீட்டின் கதவு நிலைகளிலும் நுழைவாயில்களிலும் அவற்றை எழுது.

மேலும், ஆபிரகாம், ஈசாக்கு, யாக்கோபு எனும் உன் மூதாதையருக்குக் கொடுப்பதாக ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறிய நாட்டுக்குள் உன் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் உன்னைப் புகச் செய்யும்போதும், நீ கட்டி எழுப்பாத, பரந்த வசதியான நகர்களையும், நீ நிரப்பாத எல்லாச் செல்வங்களால் நிறைந்த வீடுகளையும், நீ வெட்டாத பாறைக் கிணறுகளையும், நீ நடாத திராட்சைத் தோட்டங்களையும், ஒலிவத் தோப்புகளையும் அவர் உனக்குக் கொடுக்கும்போதும், நீ உண்டு நிறைவுகொள்ளும்போதும், அடிமைத்தன வீடாகிய எகிப்து நாட்டினின்று உன்னை வெளியே கூட்டிவந்த ஆண்டவரை மறந்துவிடாதபடி கவனமாய் இரு.

உன் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவருக்கு அஞ்சி நட! அவருக்குப் பணிந்து அவர் பெயராலே ஆணையிடு!

At that time

a man came up to Jesus, and falling to his knees,

    he said,

“Lord, have mercy on my son.

He has epilepsy

and is in great pain.

Often it falls into the fire

and often also into the water.

    I brought him to your disciples,

but they couldn't heal him. "

    Speaking, Jesus said,

" Generation unbelieving and perverted,

how long must I stay with you?

How long will I have to put up with you?

Bring him to me. "

    Jesus rebuked the demon,

and it came out of him.

At the same hour, the child was healed.

    So the disciples approached Jesus

and said to him in particular:

"For what reason

did we not succeed in expelling him? "

    Jesus answers them:

" Because of your little faith.

Amen, I say to you:

if you have faith

as big as a mustard seed,

you will say to this mountain:

“Transport yourself from here to there”,

and it will be transported;

nothing will be impossible for you. " 

            - Let us acclaim the Word of God.

Reading the book of Deuteronomy 6, 4-13 

Moses said to the people,

    “Hear, Israel:

the Lord our God is the One.

    You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,

with all your soul, and with all your strength.

    These words that I am giving you today

will remain in your heart.

    You will repeat them to your sons,

you will repeat them over and over again,

at home or when traveling,

whether you are lying down or getting up;

    you will tie them to your wrist as a sign,

they will be a band on your forehead,

    you will inscribe them at the entrance of your house

and at the gates of your city.

    When the Lord your God brings you

into the land which he swore to your fathers,

Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,

to give you;

when you have great and beautiful cities

which you did not build,

    houses full of riches

which you did not pile up there,

cisterns which you did not dig,

vineyards and olive groves which you did not have not planted;

when you have eaten well and are satisfied:

    then be careful not to forget the Lord,

he who brought you out of Egypt, out

of the house of slavery.

    You will fear the Lord your God,

you will serve him,

it is by his name that you will take an oath. "
