தாரியு அரசனது இரண்டாம் ஆட்சியாண்டின் ஏழாம் மாதத்தின் இருபத்தோராம் நாளன்று, ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு இறைவாக்கினர் ஆகாய் வாயிலாக அருளப்பட்டது: “யூதாவின் ஆளுநரும் செயல்தியேலின் மகனுமாகிய செருபாபேலிடமும் தலைமைக் குருவும் யோசதாக்கின் மகனுமாகிய யோசுவாவிடமும் மக்களுள் எஞ்சியிருப்போர் அனைவரிடமும் இப்பொழுது நீ போய் இவ்வாறு சொல்: ‘இந்தக் கோவிலின் முன்னைய மாட்சியைக் கண்டவர் எவராகிலும் உங்களிடையே இன்னும் இருக்கின்றனரா? இப்போது இது உங்களுக்கு எக்கோலத்தில் தோன்றுகிறது? இது உங்கள் பார்வையில் ஒன்றும் இல்லாதது போல் தோன்றுகிறது அல்லவா? ஆயினும் செருபாபேலே! மன உறுதியோடு இரு,’ என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர். ‘தலைமைக் குருவும் யோசதாக்கின் மகனுமாகிய யோசுவாவே! மன உறுதியோடு இரு; நாட்டிலுள்ள அனைத்து மக்களே, ஊக்கம் கொள்ளுங்கள்; பணியைத் தொடருங்கள்; ஏனெனில் நான் உங்களோடு இருக்கிறேன்’ என்கிறார் படைகளின் ஆண்டவர்.” “நீங்கள் எகிப்தினின்று புறப்பட்டு வந்த போது உங்களுக்கு நான் அளித்த வாக்குறுதியின்படி, உங்கள் நடுவில் எனது ஆவி நிலைகொண்டிருக்கிறது; அஞ்சாதீர்கள்.

ஏனெனில் படைகளின் ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே: ‘இன்னும் சிறிது காலத்தில் நான் விண்ணுலகையும், மண்ணுலகையும், கடலையும் பாலை நிலத்தையும் நடுக்கமுறச் செய்வேன். வேற்றினத்தார் அனைவரையும் நிலைகுலையச் செய்வேன். அப்போது வேற்றினத்தார் அனைவரின் விருப்பத்திற்குரியவைகளும் இங்கு வந்து சேரும்; இந்தக் கோவிலை நான் மாட்சியால் நிரப்புவேன்’ என்கிறார் படைகளின் ஆண்டவர். ‘வெள்ளி எனக்கு உரியது, பொன்னும் எனக்கு உரியது', என்கிறார் படைகளின் ஆண்டவர். ‘இந்தக் கோவிலின் முன்னைய மாட்சியை விடப் பின்னைய மாட்சி மிகுதியாய் இருக்கும்', என்கிறார் படைகளின் ஆண்டவர். ‘இந்த இடத்தில் நான் நலம் நல்குவேன்’ என்கிறார் படைகளின் ஆண்டவர்.”

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 9: 18-22 

One day when Jesus was praying alone in the presence of his disciples he put this question to them, ‘Who do the crowds say I am?’ And they answered, ‘John the Baptist; others Elijah; and others say one of the ancient prophets come back to life.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do you say I am?’ It was Peter who spoke up. ‘The Christ of God’ he said. But he gave them strict orders not to tell anyone anything about this.

  ‘The Son of Man’ he said ‘is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.’

In the second year of King Darius, on the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the Lord was addressed through the prophet Haggai, as follows, ‘You are to speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, the high commissioner of Judah, to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people. Say this, “Who is there left among you that saw this Temple in its former glory? And how does it look to you now? Does it seem nothing to you? But take courage now, Zerubbabel – it is the Lord who speaks. Courage, High Priest Joshua son of Jehozadak! Courage, all you people of the country! – it is the Lord who speaks. To work! I am with you – it is the Lord of Hosts who speaks – and my spirit remains among you. Do not be afraid! For the Lord of Hosts says this: A little while now, and I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. அக்காலத்தில்

நிகழ்ந்தவற்றை எல்லாம் குறுநில மன்னன் ஏரோது கேள்வியுற்று மனம் குழம்பினான். ஏனெனில் சிலர், “இறந்த யோவான் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டார்” என்றனர். வேறு சிலர், “எலியா தோன்றியிருக்கிறார்” என்றனர். மற்றும் சிலர், “முற்காலத்து இறைவாக்கினருள் ஒருவர் உயிர்த்தெழுந்துள்ளார்” என்றனர்.

Haggai 1:1-8 

In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord was addressed through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, high commissioner of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, as follows, ‘The Lord of Hosts says this, “This people says: The time has not yet come to rebuild the Temple of the Lord. (And the word of the Lord was addressed through the prophet Haggai, as follows:) Is this a time for you to live in your panelled houses, when this House lies in ruins? So now, the Lord of Hosts says this: Reflect carefully how things have gone for you. You have sown much and harvested little; you eat but never have enough, drink but never have your fill, put on clothes but do not feel warm. The wage earner gets his wages only to put them in a purse riddled with holes. So go to the hill country, fetch wood, and rebuild the House: I shall then take pleasure in it, and be glorified there, says the Lord.”’
