"The kingdom of God is among you" 

Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 17, 20-25 

At that time,

    as the Pharisees were asking Jesus

when the reign of God would come,

he spoke up and said,

“The coming of the reign of God is not observable.

    We will not say: "There it is, he is here!" or else: “There he is!”

For, behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst. "

Then he said to his disciples,

" The days will come

when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man,

and you will not see it.

    You will be told: “There, he is over there!” or: “Here he is!”

Do not go there, do not run there.

    Indeed, as the lightning which bursts

illuminates the horizon from one end to the other,

so the Son of man,

when his day is here.

    But first, he must suffer a lot

and be rejected by this generation. "

am the vine, and you are the branches, says the Lord.

He who abides in me and in whom I abide,

that one bears much fruit.

Forever, your word, Lord,

stands in the heavens.

Your fidelity remains from age to age,

the land that you fixed holds firm. 

Until this day, the world stands by your decisions:

everything is your servant.

Deciphering your word illuminates

and the simple understand.

Let your face light up on your servant: teach me your commandments.

May I live and may my soul praise you!

FIRST READING 

"Wisdom is the radiance of eternal light, the spotless mirror of the activity of God" 

Reading the Book of Wisdom 7, 22 - 8, 10 

There is in Wisdom an

intelligent and holy spirit ,

unique and multiple,

subtle and rapid;

piercing, crisp, clear and intact;

friend of good, lively, irresistible,

beneficent, friend of men;

firm, sure and peaceful,

all-powerful and all-watching,

penetrating all minds,

even the most intelligent, the purest, the most subtle.

    Wisdom, in fact, moves with a movement

which surpasses all the others;

it crosses and penetrates everything because of its purity.

    For it is the breath of the power of God,

the pure emanation of the glory of the Sovereign of the universe;

also nothing defiled can reach it.

    She is the radiance of eternal light,

the spotless mirror of God's activity,

the image of his goodness. 

    As she is unique, she can do anything;

and without going out of itself, it renews the universe.

From age to age, it is transmitted to holy souls,

to make them prophets and friends of God.

    For God loves only those who live with Wisdom.

    It is more beautiful than the sun,

it surpasses all the constellations;

if we compare it to the light of day,

we find it much superior,

    for the day fades before the night,

but against Wisdom, evil can do nothing.

    She deploys her vigor from one end of the world to the other,

she rules the universe with kindness. 

            - Word of the Lord.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு எருசலேமுக்குப் போய்க்கொண்டிருந்தபோது கலிலேய, சமாரியப் பகுதிகள் வழியாகச் சென்றார்.

ஓர் ஊருக்குள் வந்தபொழுது, பத்துத் தொழுநோயாளர்கள் அவருக்கு எதிர்கொண்டு வந்து, தூரத்தில் நின்றுகொண்டே, “ஐயா! இயேசுவே, எங்களுக்கு இரங்கும்” என்று உரக்கக் குரலெழுப்பி வேண்டினார்கள்.

அவர் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “நீங்கள் போய் உங்களைக் குருக்களிடம் காண்பியுங்கள்” என்றார். அவ்வாறே அவர்கள் புறப்பட்டுப் போகும் போது அவர்கள் நோய் நீங்கிற்று.

அவர்களுள் ஒருவர் தம் பிணி தீர்ந்திருப்பதைக் கண்டு உரத்த குரலில் கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்துகொண்டே இயேசுவிடம் திரும்பி வந்தார்; அவருடைய காலில் முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து அவருக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தினார். அவரோ ஒரு சமாரியர்.

இயேசு அவரைப் பார்த்து, “பத்துப் பேர்களின் நோயும் நீங்கவில்லையா? மற்ற ஒன்பது பேர் எங்கே? கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ அன்னியராகிய உம்மைத் தவிர வேறு எவரும் திரும்பிவரக் காணோமே!” என்றார்.

பின்பு அவரிடம், “எழுந்து செல்லும், உமது நம்பிக்கை உமக்கு நலமளித்தது” என்றார்.

மன்னர்களே, நான் சொல்வதற்குச் செவிசாய்த்துப் புரிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்; உலகின் கடையெல்லை வரை நீதி வழங்குவோரே, கற்றுக் கொள்ளுங்கள். திரளான மக்களை ஆள்வோரே, பல மக்களினங்களைப் பற்றிப் பெருமை பாராட்டுவோரே, எனக்குச் செவிசாயுங்கள். ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்தே உங்களுக்கு அதிகாரம் வழங்கப்பட்டது; உன்னத இறைவனிடமிருந்தே உங்களுக்கு ஆட்சியுரிமை கிடைத்தது. அவரே உங்கள் செயல்களைச் சோதித்து அறிபவர்; உங்கள் திட்டங்களை ஆராய்பவரும் அவரே. அவரது அரசின் பணியாளர்களாய் இருந்தும், நீங்கள் நேர்மையுடன் தீர்ப்பு வழங்கவில்லை; திருச்சட்டத்தைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கவில்லை; கடவுளின் திருவுளப்படி நடக்கவில்லை.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel accoding to St. Luke 17 : 11-19 

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered one of the villages, ten lepers came to meet him. They stood some way off and called to him, ‘Jesus! Master! Take pity on us.’ When he saw them he said, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ Now as they were going away they were cleansed. Finding himself cured, one of them turned back praising God at the top of his voice and threw himself at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan. This made Jesus say, ‘Were not all ten made clean? The other nine, where are they? It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner.’ And he said to the man, ‘Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you.’

Kings, your power is a gift to you from the Lord.

A Reading from the Book of Wisdom 6: 1-11 

Listen, kings, and understand;

rulers of remotest lands, take warning;

hear this, you who have thousands under your rule,

who boast of your hordes of subjects.

For power is a gift to you from the Lord,

sovereignty is from the Most High;

he himself will probe your acts and scrutinise your intentions.

If, as administrators of his kingdom, you have not governed justly

nor observed the law,

nor behaved as God would have you behave,

he will fall on you swiftly and terribly.

Ruthless judgement is reserved for the high and mighty;

the lowly will be compassionately pardoned,

the mighty will be mightily punished.

For the Lord of All does not cower before a personage,

he does not stand in awe of greatness,

since he himself has made small and great

and provides for all alike;

but strict scrutiny awaits those in power.

Yes, despots, my words are for you,

that you may learn what wisdom is and not transgress;

for they who observe holy things holily will be adjudged holy,

and, accepting instruction from them, will find their defence in them.

Look forward, therefore, to my words;

yearn for them, and they will instruct you.
