A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 4: 18-22 

As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew; they were making a cast in the lake with their net, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.’ And they left their nets at once and followed him. Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. At once, leaving the boat and their father, they followed him.

Faith comes from what is preached, and what is preached comes from the word of Christ.

A Reading form the Letter of St.Paul to the Romans 10: 9-18 

If your lips confess that Jesus is Lord and if you believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you will be saved. By believing from the heart you are made righteous; by confessing with your lips you are saved. When scripture says: those who believe in him will have no cause for shame, it makes no distinction between Jew and Greek: all belong to the same Lord who is rich enough, however many ask his help, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  But they will not ask his help unless they believe in him, and they will not believe in him unless they have heard of him, and they will not hear of him unless they get a preacher, and they will never have a preacher unless one is sent, but as scripture says: The footsteps of those who bring good news are a welcome sound. Not everyone, of course, listens to the Good News. As Isaiah says: Lord, how many believed what we proclaimed? So faith comes from what is preached, and what is preached comes from the word of Christ. Let me put the question: is it possible that they did not hear? Indeed they did; in the words of the psalm, their voice has gone out through all the earth, and their message to the ends of the world.

அக்காலத்தில் 

இயேசு கப்பர்நாகுமுக்குச் சென்றபோது நூற்றுவர் தலைவர் ஒருவர் அவரிடம் உதவி வேண்டி வந்தார். “ஐயா, என் பையன் முடக்குவாதத்தால் மிகுந்த வேதனையுடன் படுத்துக் கிடக்கிறான்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “நான் வந்து அவனைக் குணமாக்குவேன்” என்றார். நூற்றுவர் தலைவர் மறுமொழியாக, “ஐயா, நீர் என் வீட்டிற்குள் அடியெடுத்து வைக்க நான் தகுதியற்றவன். ஆனால் ஒரு வார்த்தை மட்டும் சொல்லும்; என் பையன் நலமடைவான். நான் அதிகாரத்துக்கு உட்பட்டவன். என் அதிகாரத்துக்கு உட்பட்ட படைவீரரும் உள்ளனர். நான் அவர்களுள் ஒருவரிடம் ‘செல்க’ என்றால் அவர் செல்கிறார். வேறு ஒருவரிடம் ‘வருக’ என்றால் அவர் வருகிறார். என் பணியாளரைப் பார்த்து ‘இதைச் செய்க’ என்றால் அவர் செய்கிறார்” என்றார். 

இதைக் கேட்டு இயேசு வியந்து, தம்மைப் பின்தொடர்ந்து வந்தவர்களை நோக்கி, “உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்; இஸ்ரயேலர் யாரிடமும் இத்தகைய நம்பிக்கையை நான் கண்டதில்லை. கிழக்கிலும் மேற்கிலுமிருந்து பலர் வந்து, ஆபிரகாம், ஈசாக்கு, யாக்கோபு ஆகியோருடன் விண்ணரசின் பந்தியில் அமர்வர்.” என்றார் 

இது கிறிஸ்து வழங்கும் நற்செய்தி.

திபா 122: 1-2. 4-5. 6-7. 8-9 (பல்லவி: 1) 

பல்லவி: அகமகிழ்வோடு ஆண்டவரது இல்லத்திற்குப் போவோம்.

1. ‘ஆண்டவரது இல்லத்திற்குப் போவோம்’ என்ற அழைப்பை நான் கேட்டபோது அகமகிழ்ந்தேன். 

2. எருசலேமே! இதோ, நாங்கள் அடியெடுத்து வைத்து உன் வாயில்களில் நிற்கின்றோம். - பல்லவி 

4. ஆண்டவரின் திருக்குலத்தார் அங்கே செல்கின்றனர்; இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுக்கு இட்ட கட்டளைக்களுக்கிணங்க ஆண்டவரது பெயருக்கு அவர்கள் நன்றி செலுத்தச் செல்வார்கள். 

5. அங்கே நீதி வழங்க அரியணைகள் இருக்கின்றன. அவை தாவீது வீட்டாரின் அரியணைகள். - பல்லவி

யூதாவையும் எருசலேமையும் குறித்து ஆமோட்சின் மகன் எசாயா கண்ட காட்சி: 

இறுதி நாள்களில் ஆண்டவரின் கோவில் அமைந்துள்ள மலை எல்லா மலைகளுக்குள்ளும் உயர்ந்ததாய் நிலைநிறுத்தப்படும்; எல்லாக் குன்றுகளுக்குள்ளும் மேலாய் உயர்த்தப்படும்; மக்களினங்கள் அதை நோக்கிச் சாரை சாரையாய் வருவார்கள். 

வேற்றினத்தார் பலர் அங்கு வந்து சேர்ந்து, ‘புறப்படுங்கள் ஆண்டவரின் மலைக்குச் செல்வோம்; யாக்கோபின் கடவுளின் கோவிலுக்குப் போவோம்; அவர் தம் வழிகளை நமக்குக் கற்பிப்பார்; நாமும் அவர் நெறிகளில் நடப்போம்’ என்பார்கள். ஏனெனில், சீயோனிலிருந்தே திருச்சட்டம் வெளிவரும்; எருசலேமிலிருந்தே ஆண்டவரின் திருவாக்கு புறப்படும். 

அவர் வேற்றினத்தாரிடையே உள்ள வழக்குகளைத் தீர்த்து வைப்பார்; பல இன மக்களுக்கும் தீர்ப்பளிப்பார்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் வாள்களைக் கலப்பைக் கொழுக்களாகவும், தங்கள் ஈட்டிகளைக் கருக்கு அரிவாள்களாகவும் அடித்துக்கொள்வார்கள், ஓர் இனத்திற்கு எதிராக மற்றோர் இனம் வாள் எடுக்காது; அவர்கள் இனி ஒருபோதும் போர்ப்பயிற்சி பெறமாட்டார்கள். யாக்கோபின் குடும்பத்தாரே, வாருங்கள் நாம் ஆண்டவரின் ஒளியில் நடப்போம்.

"Many will come from the east and the west and will take their place at the feast of the kingdom of Heaven" 

Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew 8, 5-11 

At that time,

as Jesus had entered Capernaum,

a centurion approached him and begged him:

“Lord, my servant is lying at home, paralyzed,

and he is in terrible pain. "

Jesus said to him:

" I will go and heal him myself. "

The centurion replied,

" Lord, I am not worthy

to have you come under my roof,

but only say the word

and my servant will be healed.

I myself, who am subject to an authority,

have soldiers under my orders;

to one, I say: “Go”, and he goes;

to another: “Come”, and he comes,

and to my slave: “Do this”, and he does it. "

At this, Jesus was amazed

and said to those who followed him,

"Truly, I tell you,

with no one in Israel I have found such faith."

So I say to you:

Many will come from the east and the west

and will take their places with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob

at the feast of the kingdom of Heaven. "

The Lord gathers all nations together into the eternal peace of God's kingdom

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 2: 1 -5.

The vision of Isaiah son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

In the days to come

the mountain of the Temple of the Lord

shall tower above the mountains

and be lifted higher than the hills.

All the nations will stream to it,

peoples without number will come to it; and they will say:

  ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,

  to the Temple of the God of Jacob

  that he may teach us his ways

  so that we may walk in his paths;

  since the Law will go out from Zion,

  and the oracle of the Lord from Jerusalem.’

He will wield authority over the nations

and adjudicate between many peoples;

these will hammer their swords into ploughshares,

their spears into sickles.

Nation will not lift sword against nation,

there will be no more training for war.

O House of Jacob, come,

let us walk in the light of the Lord.
