Psalm 84(85): 9-14 

Look, our God is coming to save us.

I will hear what the Lord God has to say,

  a voice that speaks of peace,

  peace for his people.

His help is near for those who fear him

  and his glory will dwell in our land.

Look, our God is coming to save us.

Mercy and faithfulness have met;

  justice and peace have embraced.

Faithfulness shall spring from the earth

  and justice look down from heaven.

Look, our God is coming to save us.

The Lord will make us prosper

  and our earth shall yield its fruit.

Justice shall march before him

  and peace shall follow his steps.

Look, our God is coming to save us.

The return of the redeemed through the desert.

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 35: 1-10. 

Let the wilderness and the dry-lands exult,

let the wasteland rejoice and bloom,

let it bring forth flowers like the jonquil,

let it rejoice and sing for joy.

The glory of Lebanon is bestowed on it,

the splendour of Carmel and Sharon;

they shall see the glory of the Lord,

the splendour of our God.

Strengthen all weary hands,

steady all trembling knees

and say to all faint hearts,

‘Courage! Do not be afraid.

‘Look, your God is coming,

vengeance is coming,

the retribution of God;

he is coming to save you.’

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,

the ears of the deaf unsealed,

then the lame shall leap like a deer

and the tongues of the dumb sing for joy;

for water gushes in the desert,

streams in the wasteland,

the scorched earth becomes a lake,

the parched land springs of water.

The lairs where the jackals used to live

become thickets of reed and papyrus...

And through it will run a highway undefiled

which shall be called the Sacred Way;

the unclean may not travel by it,

nor fools stray along it.

No lion will be there

nor any fierce beast roam about it,

but the redeemed will walk there,

for those the Lord has ransomed shall return.

They will come to Zion shouting for joy,

everlasting joy on their faces;

joy and gladness will go with them

and sorrow and lament be ended.

மனிதர் அனைவரும் கடவுள் அருளும் மீட்பைக் காண்பர்.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 3: 1-6

திபேரியு சீசர் ஆட்சி செய்துவந்த பதினைந்தாம் ஆண்டில், பொந்தியு பிலாத்து யூதேயாவின் ஆளுநராக இருந்தார். ஏரோது கலிலேயப் பகுதிக்கும் அவன் சகோதரராகிய பிலிப்பு, இத்துரேயா, திரக்கோனித்துப் பகுதிகளுக்கும் லிசானியா அபிலேன் பகுதிக்கும் குறுநில மன்னர்களாக இருந்தனர். அன்னாவும் கயபாவும் தலைமைக் குருக்களாய் இருந்தனர். அக்காலத்தில் செக்கரியாவின் மகன் யோவான் பாலைநிலத்தில் வாழ்ந்து வந்தார். அவர் கடவுளின் வாக்கைப் பெற்றார். “பாவமன்னிப்பு அடைய மனம்மாறித் திருமுழுக்குப் பெறுங்கள்” என்று யோர்தான் ஆற்றை அடுத்துள்ள பகுதிகள் அனைத்துக்கும் சென்று அவர் பறைசாற்றிவந்தார். இதைப்பற்றி இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயாவின் உரைகள் அடங்கிய நூலில் இவ்வாறு எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது:

“பாலைநிலத்தில் குரல் ஒன்று முழங்குகிறது: ஆண்டவருக்காக வழியை ஆயத்தமாக்குங்கள்; அவருக்காகப் பாதையைச் செம்மையாக்குங்கள்; பள்ளத்தாக்குகள் எல்லாம் நிரப்பப்படும்; மலை, குன்று யாவும் தாழ்த்தப்படும்; கோணலானவை நேராக்கப்படும்; கரடுமுரடானவை சமதளமாக்கப்படும். மனிதர் அனைவரும் கடவுள் அருளும் மீட்பைக் காண்பர்.”

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

கிறிஸ்துவின் நாளுக்கென்று குற்றமற்றவர்களாக நேர்மையோடு வாழ்ந்து வாருங்கள்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

உங்கள் அனைவருக்காகவும் எப்பொழுதும் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு மன்றாடி வருகிறேன். ஏனெனில் தொடக்கமுதல் இன்றுவரை நீங்கள் நற்செய்திப் பணியில் என்னோடு பங்கேற்று வருகிறீர்கள். உங்களுள் இத்தகைய நற்செயலைத் தொடங்கியவர், கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவின் நாள் வரை அதை நிறைவுறச் செய்வார் என உறுதியாய் நம்புகிறேன்.

கிறிஸ்து இயேசு கொண்டிருந்த அதே பரிவுள்ளத்தோடு உங்கள்மீது எத்துணை ஏக்கமாயிருக்கிறேன் என்பதற்குக் கடவுளே சாட்சி.

மேலும், நீங்கள் அறிவிலும் அனைத்தையும் உய்த்துணரும் பண்பிலும் மேன்மேலும் வளர்ந்து, அன்பால் நிறைந்து, சிறந்தவற்றையே ஏற்றுச் செயல்படுமாறு இறைவனை வேண்டுகிறேன். கடவுளின் மாட்சிக்காகவும் புகழ்ச்சிக்காகவும் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் வழியாய் நீதியின் செயல்களால் நிரப்பப்பெற்று கிறிஸ்துவின் நாளுக்கென்று குற்றமற்றவர்களாக நேர்மையோடு வாழ்ந்துவர வேண்டுமென்றே இவ்வாறு செய்கிறேன்.

எருசலேமே, உன் துன்ப துயரத்தின் ஆடைகளைக் களைந்துவிடு; கடவுள் உனக்கு அருளும் மாட்சியின் பேரழகை என்றென்றும் ஆடையாக அணிந்துகொள். கடவுளிடமிருந்து வரும் நீதியை ஆடையாய்ப் புனைந்துகொள்; என்றும் உள்ளவரின் மாட்சியை மணிமுடியாக உன் தலைமீது சூடிக்கொள். கடவுள் வானத்தின் கீழ் உள்ள எல்லா நாடுகளுக்கும் உன் பேரொளியைக் காட்டுவார். ‘நீதியில் ஊன்றிய அமைதி’, ‘இறைப்பற்றில் ஒளிரும் மாட்சி’ என்னும் பெயர்களால் கடவுள் உன்னை என்றென்றும் அழைப்பார்.

எருசலேமே, எழுந்திரு; உயர்ந்த இடத்தில் எழுந்து நில். கீழ்த்திசையை நோக்கு; கீழ்த்திசை முதல் மேற்றிசை வரை உள்ள எல்லா நாடுகளிலிருந்தும் உன் மக்கள் தூயவரின் சொல்லால் ஒன்று சேர்க்கப்பட்டு, கடவுள் தங்களை நினைவுகூர்ந்ததற்காக மகிழ்வதைப் பார். பகைவர்கள் கடத்திச் சென்ற உன் மக்கள் உன்னை விட்டுப் பிரிந்து சென்ற பொழுது நடந்து சென்றார்கள்; ஆனால் கடவுள் அவர்களை உன்னிடம் திரும்ப அழைத்துவரும் பொழுது அரியணையில் வீற்றிருக்கும் மன்னர்போல் உயர்மிகு மாட்சியுடன் அழைத்துவரப்படுவார்கள். கடவுளின் மாட்சியில் இஸ்ரயேல் பாதுகாப்புடன் நடந்து வரும்பொருட்டு, உயர்மலைகள் என்றென்றும் உள்ள குன்றுகள் எல்லாம் தாழவும் பள்ளத்தாக்குகள் நிரம்பவும் இவ்வாறு நிலம் முழுதும் சமமாகவும் கடவுள் கட்டளையிட்டுள்ளார். மேலும், காடுகளும் நறுமணம் வீசும் மரங்கள் அனைத்தும் கடவுளின் கட்டளையால் இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு நிழல் கொடுத்தன. கடவுள் தம் மாட்சியின் ஒளியில் மகிழ்ச்சியோடும், தம்மிடமிருந்து வெளிப்படும் இரக்கத்தோடும் நீதியோடும் இஸ்ரயேலை அழைத்து வருவார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel acording to St. Luke 3: 1-6 

In the fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar’s reign, when Pontius Pilate was governor of Judaea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of the lands of Ituraea and Trachonitis, Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene, during the pontificate of Annas and Caiaphas the word of God came to John son of Zechariah, in the wilderness. He went through the whole Jordan district proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, as it is written in the book of the sayings of the prophet Isaiah:

A voice cries in the wilderness:

Prepare a way for the Lord,

make his paths straight.

Every valley will be filled in,

every mountain and hill be laid low,

winding ways will be straightened

and rough roads made smooth.

And all mankind shall see the salvation of God.

May you become pure and blameless in preparation for the day of Christ.

Philippians 1:4-6,8-11 

Every time I pray for all of you, I pray with joy, remembering how you have helped to spread the Good News from the day you first heard it right up to the present. I am quite certain that the One who began this good work in you will see that it is finished when the Day of Christ Jesus comes; and God knows how much I miss you all, loving you as Christ Jesus loves you. My prayer is that your love for each other may increase more and more and never stop improving your knowledge and deepening your perception so that you can always recognise what is best. This will help you to become pure and blameless, and prepare you for the Day of Christ, when you will reach the perfect goodness which Jesus Christ produces in us for the glory and praise of God.

God means to show your splendour to every nation.

A reading from the Book of Baruch 5: 1-9.

Jerusalem, take off your dress of sorrow and distress,

put on the beauty of the glory of God for ever,

wrap the cloak of the integrity of God around you,

put the diadem of the glory of the Eternal on your head:

since God means to show your splendour to every nation under heaven,

since the name God gives you for ever will be,

‘Peace through integrity, and honour through devotedness.’

Arise, Jerusalem, stand on the heights

and turn your eyes to the east:

see your sons reassembled from west and east

at the command of the Holy One, jubilant that God has remembered them.

Though they left you on foot,

with enemies for an escort,

now God brings them back to you

like royal princes carried back in glory.

For God has decreed the flattening

of each high mountain, of the everlasting hills,

the filling of the valleys to make the ground level

so that Israel can walk in safety under the glory of God.

And the forests and every fragrant tree will provide shade

for Israel at the command of God;

for God will guide Israel in joy by the light of his glory

with his mercy and integrity for escort.
