1 Peter 1: 3-9 

Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy has given us a new birth as his sons, by raising Jesus Christ from the dead, so that we have a sure hope and the promise of an inheritance that can never be spoilt or soiled and never fade away, because it is being kept for you in the heavens. Through your faith, God’s power will guard you until the salvation which has been prepared is revealed at the end of time. This is a cause of great joy for you, even though you may for a short time have to bear being plagued by all sorts of trials; so that, when Jesus Christ is revealed, your faith will have been tested and proved like gold – only it is more precious than gold, which is corruptible even though it bears testing by fire – and then you will have praise and glory and honour. You did not see him, yet you love him; and still without seeing him, you are already filled with a joy so glorious that it cannot be described, because you believe; and you are sure of the end to which your faith looks forward, that is, the salvation of your souls.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களுக்கு உவமையாகக் கூறியது: “பார்வையற்ற ஒருவர் பார்வையற்ற வேறொருவருக்கு வழிகாட்ட இயலுமா? இருவரும் குழியில் விழுவர் அல்லவா? சீடர் குருவைவிட மேலானவர் அல்ல. ஆனால் தேர்ச்சி பெற்ற எவரும் தம் குருவைப் போல் இருப்பர்.

நீங்கள் உங்கள் கண்ணில் இருக்கும் மரக்கட்டையைப் பார்க்காமல் உங்கள் சகோதரர் அல்லது சகோதரியின் கண்ணில் இருக்கும் துரும்பைக் கூர்ந்து கவனிப்பதேன்? உங்கள் கண்ணில் இருக்கும் மரக்கட்டையையே நீங்கள் பார்க்காமல் இருந்துகொண்டு உங்கள் சகோதரர் அல்லது சகோதரியிடம், ‘உம் கண்ணில் இருக்கும் துரும்பை எடுக்கட்டுமா?’ என்று எப்படிக் கேட்க முடியும்? வெளிவேடக்காரரே, முதலில் உங்கள் கண்ணில் இருக்கும் மரக்கட்டையை எடுத்து எறியுங்கள். அதன்பின் உங்கள் சகோதரர் அல்லது சகோதரியின் கண்ணில் இருக்கும் துரும்பை எடுக்க உங்களுக்குத் தெளிவாய்க் கண் தெரியும்.

கெட்ட கனி தரும் நல்ல மரமுமில்லை; நல்ல கனி தரும் கெட்ட மரமுமில்லை. ஒவ்வொரு மரமும் அதனதன் கனியாலே அறியப்படும். ஏனென்றால் முட்செடிகளில் அத்திப் பழங்களைப் பறிப்பாருமில்லை; முட்புதர்களில் திராட்சைக் குலைகளை அறுத்துச் சேர்ப்பாருமில்லை. நல்லவர் தம் உள்ளமாகிய நல்ல கருவூலத்திலிருந்து நல்லவற்றை எடுத்துக் கொடுப்பர். தீயவரோ தீயதினின்று தீயவற்றை எடுத்துக் கொடுப்பர். உள்ளத்தின் நிறைவையே வாய் பேசும்.”

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 15: 54-58

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

அழிவுக்குரியது அழியாமையையும், சாவுக்குரியது சாகாமையையும் அணிந்து கொள்ளும்போது மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ள வாக்கு நிறைவேறும்: “சாவு முற்றிலும் ஒழிந்தது; வெற்றி கிடைத்தது. சாவே, உன் வெற்றி எங்கே? சாவே, உன் கொடுக்கு எங்கே?” பாவமே சாவின் கொடுக்கு. பாவத்துக்கு வலிமை தருவது திருச்சட்டமே. ஆகவே நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் வழியாக நமக்கு இந்த வெற்றியைக் கொடுக்கும் கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி!

எனவே என் அன்பார்ந்த சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, உறுதியோடு இருங்கள்; நிலையாய் நில்லுங்கள். ஆண்டவருக்காக நீங்கள் உழைப்பது வீண் போகாது என்பதை அறிந்து ஆண்டவரின் பணியை இன்னும் அதிகமாக எப்போதும் செய்யுங்கள்.

Can the blind lead the blind?

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 6:39-45 

Jesus told a parable to his disciples: ‘Can one blind man guide another? Surely both will fall into a pit? The disciple is not superior to his teacher; the fully trained disciple will always be like his teacher. Why do you observe the splinter in your brother’s eye and never notice the plank in your own? How can you say to your brother, “Brother, let me take out the splinter that is in your eye,” when you cannot see the plank in your own? Hypocrite! Take the plank out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take out the splinter that is in your brother’s eye.

  ‘There is no sound tree that produces rotten fruit, nor again a rotten tree that produces sound fruit. For every tree can be told by its own fruit: people do not pick figs from thorns, nor gather grapes from brambles. A good man draws what is good from the store of goodness in his heart; a bad man draws what is bad from the store of badness. For a man’s words flow out of what fills his heart.’

1 Corinthians 15:54-58 

When this perishable nature has put on imperishability, and when this mortal nature has put on immortality, then the words of scripture will come true: Death is swallowed up in victory. Death, where is your victory? Death, where is your sting? Now the sting of death is sin, and sin gets its power from the Law. So let us thank God for giving us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  Never give in then, my dear brothers, never admit defeat; keep on working at the Lord’s work always, knowing that, in the Lord, you cannot be labouring in vain.

In a shaken sieve the rubbish is left behind,

  so too the defects of a man appear in his talk.

The kiln tests the work of the potter,

  the test of a man is in his conversation.

The orchard where a tree grows is judged on the quality of its fruit,

  similarly a man’s words betray what he feels.

Do not praise a man before he has spoken,

  since this is the test of men.
