ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு எரேமியாவுக்கு மீண்டும் அருளப்பட்டது: இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார்: நான் உனக்குச் சொல்லியிருக்கும் சொற்களை எல்லாம் ஏட்டுச் சுருளில் எழுதிவை.

ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகின்றார்: உனது காயத்தைக் குணப்படுத்த முடியாது; உனது புண் புரையோடிப்போனது. உனக்காக வாதிட எவனும் இல்லை; உனது காயத்தை ஆற்ற மருந்தே இல்லை; உன்னைக் குணப்படுத்தவே முடியாது. உன் காதலர் அனைவரும் உன்னை மறந்துவிட்டனர்; உன்னை அவர்கள் தேடுவதே இல்லை; மாற்றான் தாக்குவது போல நான் உன்னைத் தாக்கினேன்; கொடியோன் தண்டிப்பது போல நான் உன்னைத் தண்டித்தேன்; ஏனெனில் உனது குற்றம் பெரிது; உன் பாவங்களோ எண்ணற்றவை. நீ நொறுக்கப்பட்டதை எண்ணி ஏன் அழுகின்றாய்? உனது வேதனையைத் தணிக்க முடியாது; ஏனெனில் உனது குற்றமோ பெரிது; உன் பாவங்களோ எண்ணற்றவை; எனவே இவற்றை எல்லாம் நான் உனக்குச் செய்தேன்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 14: 22-36 

Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side while he would send the crowds away. After sending the crowds away he went up into the hills by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, while the boat, by now far out on the lake, was battling with a heavy sea, for there was a head-wind. In the fourth watch of the night he went towards them, walking on the lake, and when the disciples saw him walking on the lake they were terrified. ‘It is a ghost’ they said, and cried out in fear. But at once Jesus called out to them, saying, ‘Courage! It is I! Do not be afraid.’ It was Peter who answered. ‘Lord,’ he said ‘if it is you, tell me to come to you across the water.’ ‘Come’ said Jesus. Then Peter got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus across the water, but as soon as he felt the force of the wind, he took fright and began to sink. ‘Lord! Save me!’ he cried. Jesus put out his hand at once and held him. ‘Man of little faith,’ he said ‘why did you doubt?’ And as they got into the boat the wind dropped. The men in the boat bowed down before him and said, ‘Truly, you are the Son of God.’

  Having made the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret. When the local people recognised him they spread the news through the whole neighbourhood and took all that were sick to him, begging him just to let them touch the fringe of his cloak. And all those who touched it were completely cured.

Word of the Lord addressed to Jeremiah:

    Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel:

Write in a book all the words that I have spoken to you.

    Thus says the Lord:

Zion, incurable is your wound,

and deep is your wound.

    No one defends your cause so that your ulcer is cured;

no remedy to heal it.

    All your lovers have forgotten you,

none are looking for you.

Yes, like an enemy I have hurt you

– severe correction!

On the mass of your faults,

your sins have not ceased to increase.

    What are you crying about because of your injury?

Your pain is incurable.

On the mass of your faults,

your sins have continued to increase:

that is why I have inflicted this on you. 

    Thus says the Lord:

Behold, I will restore the tents of Jacob,

for his dwellings I will have compassion;

the city will be rebuilt on its ruins,

the citadel will be restored to its rightful place.

    Thanksgiving will spring from it

Far from diminishing his sons, I will multiply them;

far from lowering them, I will glorify them.

their community will stand before me,

அக்காலத்தில்

திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் கொலையுண்டதைக் கேள்வியுற்ற இயேசு அங்கிருந்து புறப்பட்டுப் படகிலேறிப் பாலை நிலத்திலுள்ள தனிமையான ஓர் இடத்திற்குச் சென்றார். இதைக் கேள்விப்பட்ட திரளான மக்கள் ஊர்களிலிருந்து கால்நடையாக அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தனர். இயேசு அங்குச் சென்றபோது பெருந்திரளான மக்களைக் கண்டு அவர்கள்மீது பரிவு கொண்டார்; அவர்களிடையே உடல் நலமற்றிருந்தோரைக் குணமாக்கினார்.

மாலையானபோது, சீடர் அவரிடம் வந்து, “இவ்விடம் பாலைநிலம் ஆயிற்றே, நேரமும் ஆகிவிட்டது. ஊர்களுக்குச் சென்று தங்களுக்குத் தேவையான உணவு வாங்கிக்கொள்ள மக்கள் கூட்டத்தை அனுப்பிவிடும்” என்றனர். இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “அவர்கள் செல்ல வேண்டியதில்லை; நீங்களே அவர்களுக்கு உணவு கொடுங்கள்” என்றார். ஆனால் அவர்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “எங்களிடம் இங்கே ஐந்து அப்பங்களும் இரண்டு மீன்களும் தவிர வேறு எதுவும் இல்லை” என்றார்கள். அவர், “அவற்றை என்னிடம் இங்கே கொண்டு வாருங்கள்” என்றார்.

மக்களைப் புல் தரையில் அமருமாறு ஆணையிட்டார். அவர் அந்த ஐந்து அப்பங்களையும் இரண்டு மீன்களையும் எடுத்து, வானத்தை அண்ணாந்து பார்த்து, கடவுளைப் போற்றி, அப்பங்களைப் பிட்டுச் சீடர்களிடம் கொடுத்தார். சீடர்களும் மக்களுக்குக் கொடுத்தார்கள்; அனைவரும் வயிறார உண்டனர். எஞ்சிய துண்டுகளைப் பன்னிரண்டு கூடைகள் நிறைய எடுத்தனர். பெண்களும் சிறு பிள்ளைகளும் நீங்கலாக உணவு உண்ட ஆண்களின் தொகை ஏறத்தாழ ஐயாயிரம்.

யூதாவின் அரசனான செதேக்கியாவினுடைய ஆட்சியின் நான்காம் ஆண்டு ஐந்தாம் மாதத்தில் அசூரின் மகனும் கிபயோனைச் சார்ந்தவனுமான அனனியா என்னும் இறைவாக்கினன் ஆண்டவரின் இல்லத்தில் குருக்கள் மற்றும் மக்கள் அனைவருடைய முன்னிலையிலும் என்னிடம் உரைத்தது:

“இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளான படைகளின் ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறார்: ‘பாபிலோனிய மன்னனது நுகத்தை நான் முறித்தெறிந்து விட்டேன். பாபிலோனிய மன்னன் நெபுகத்னேசர் இவ்விடத்தினின்று கவர்ந்து, பாபிலோனுக்கு எடுத்துச் சென்றுள்ள ஆண்டவரது இல்லத்தின் கலங்கள் எல்லாவற்றையும் இரண்டே ஆண்டுக் காலத்திற்குள் இவ்விடத்திற்குத் திரும்பக் கொண்டுவருவேன். அத்தோடு யோயாக்கிமின் மகனும் யூதாவின் அரசனுமான எக்கோனியாவையும் பாபிலோனுக்கு நாடு கடத்தப்பட்ட யூதா மக்கள் அனைவரையும் இவ்விடத்துக்கு நான் திரும்பக் கொண்டு வருவேன். ஏனெனில், பாபிலோனிய மன்னனது நுகத்தை நான் முறித்தெறிவேன்', என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர்.”

அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவரின் இல்லத்தில் நின்று கொண்டிருந்த குருக்கள், மக்கள் அனைவர் முன்னிலையிலும், இறைவாக்கினர் எரேமியா இறைவாக்கினன் அனனியாவிடம் பேசினார். இறைவாக்கினர் எரேமியா அவனை நோக்கி, ‘ஆமென்! ஆண்டவர் அவ்வாறே செய்வாராக! நீர் உரைத்த சொற்களை ஆண்டவர் நிறைவேற்றுவாராக! ஆண்டவர் இல்லத்தின் கலங்களையும் நாடுகடத்தப்பட்டோர் அனைவரையும் பாபிலோனிலிருந்து இவ்விடத்திற்குத் திரும்பக் கொண்டுவருவாராக! ஆயினும் உம் செவிகளிலும் மக்கள் அனைவரின் செவிகளிலும் விழும்படி நான் உரைக்கும் இச்சொல்லைக் கவனித்துக் கேளும். உமக்கும் எனக்கும் முன்பே பண்டைய நாள்களில் வாழ்ந்த இறைவாக்கினர், பல நாடுகள், பேரரசுகளுக்கு எதிராகப் போர், துன்பம், கொள்ளைநோய் ஆகியவை பற்றி இறைவாக்கு உரைத்திருக்கின்றனர். நல்வாழ்வை முன்னறிவிக்கும் இறைவாக்கினரைப் பொறுத்தவரை, அவரது வாக்கு நிறைவேறும் பொழுதுதான், ஆண்டவர் அவரை உண்மையாகவே அனுப்பியுள்ளார் என்பது தெரியவரும்” என்றார்.

அதைக் கேட்ட இறைவாக்கினன் அனனியா இறைவாக்கினர் எரேமியாவின் கழுத்திலிருந்த நுகத்தைப் பிடுங்கி முறித்தெறிந்தான். மேலும், அனனியா எல்லா மக்கள் முன்னிலையிலும், “ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே: இவ்வாறே பாபிலோனிய மன்னன் நெபுகத்னேசரின் நுகத்தை இன்னும் இரண்டே ஆண்டுகளில் மக்களினத்தார் அனைவருடைய கழுத்தினின்றும் பிடுங்கி முறித்தெறிவேன்” என்றான். உடனே இறைவாக்கினர் எரேமியா அவ்விடம் விட்டு அகன்றார்.

இறைவாக்கினன் அனனியா இறைவாக்கினர் எரேமியாவின் கழுத்திலிருந்த நுகத்தை முறித்தெறிந்த சில நாள்களுக்குப் பின்னர், ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு எரேமியாவுக்கு அருளப்பட்டது: “நீ போய் அனனியாவிடம் சொல்: ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே: நீ மர நுகத்தை முறித்தெறிந்தாய்; அதற்குப் பதிலாக இரும்பு நுகத்தைச் செய்துகொள்வாய். ஏனெனில், இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளாகிய படைகளின் ஆண்டவர் கூறுகிறார்: இந்த மக்களினத்தார் அனைவரின் கழுத்தில் இரும்பு நுகத்தை வைத்துள்ளேன். ஆதலால் அவர்கள் பாபிலோனிய மன்னன் நெபுகத்னேசருக்கு அடிபணிந்து பணிவிடை செய்வார்கள். காட்டு விலங்குகளையும் அவனிடம் ஒப்புவித்திருக்கிறேன்.”

அப்பொழுது இறைவாக்கினர் எரேமியா இறைவாக்கினன் அனனியாவிடம் கூறியது: “அனனியாவே, கூர்ந்து கேள்: ஆண்டவர் உன்னை அனுப்பவில்லை. அப்படியிருந்தும் இம்மக்கள் பொய்யை நம்பும்படி நீ செய்துவிட்டாய். எனவே, ஆண்டவர் கூறுகிறார்: இதோ! நான் இவ்வுலகினின்றே உன்னை அனுப்பி வைக்கப் போகிறேன். ஆண்டவருக்கு எதிராக மக்கள் கிளர்ச்சி செய்யுமாறு நீ போதித்ததால், இந்த ஆண்டிலேயே நீ சாவாய்!” அவ்வாறே அதே ஆண்டு ஏழாம் மாதத்தில் இறைவாக்கினன் அனனியா மாண்டான்.

The feeding of the five thousand

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 14: 13-21 

When Jesus received the news of John the Baptist’s death he withdrew by boat to a lonely place where they could be by themselves. But the people heard of this and, leaving the towns, went after him on foot. So as he stepped ashore he saw a large crowd; and he took pity on them and healed their sick.

  When evening came, the disciples went to him and said, ‘This is a lonely place, and the time has slipped by; so send the people away, and they can go to the villages to buy themselves some food.’ Jesus replied, ‘There is no need for them to go: give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they answered ‘All we have with us is five loaves and two fish.’ ‘Bring them here to me’ he said. He gave orders that the people were to sit down on the grass; then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing. And breaking the loaves handed them to his disciples who gave them to the crowds. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they collected the scraps remaining; twelve baskets full. Those who ate numbered about five thousand men, to say nothing of women and children.

A Reading from the Book of Jeremiah 28: 1-17 

At the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah in the fifth month of the fourth year, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur, a Gibeonite, spoke as follows to Jeremiah in the Temple of the Lord in the presence of the priests and of all the people. ‘The Lord, the God of Israel, says this, “I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. In two years’ time I will bring back all the vessels of the Temple of the Lord which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon carried off from this place and took to Babylon. And I will also bring back Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the exiles of Judah who have gone to Babylon – it is the Lord who speaks. Yes, I am going to break the yoke of the king of Babylon.”’

  The prophet Jeremiah then replied to the prophet Hananiah in front of the priests and all the people there in the Temple of the Lord. ‘I hope so’ the prophet Jeremiah said. ‘May the Lord do so. May he fulfil the words that you have prophesied and bring the vessels of the Temple of the Lord and all the exiles back to this place from Babylon. Listen carefully, however, to this word that I am now going to say for you and all the people to hear: From remote times, the prophets who preceded you and me prophesied war, famine and plague for many countries and for great kingdoms; but the prophet who prophesies peace can only be recognised as one truly sent by the Lord when his word comes true.’

  The prophet Hananiah then took the yoke off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it. In front of all the people Hananiah then said, ‘The Lord says this, “This is how, two years hence, I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and take it off the necks of all the nations.”’ At this, the prophet Jeremiah went away.

  After the prophet Hananiah had broken the yoke which he had taken off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah the word of the Lord was addressed to Jeremiah, ‘Go to Hananiah and tell him this, “The Lord says this: You can break wooden yokes? Right, I will make them iron yokes instead! For the Lord Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: An iron yoke is what I now lay on the necks of all these nations to subject them to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. They will be subject to him; I have even given him the wild animals.”’

  The prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, ‘Listen carefully, Hananiah: the Lord has not sent you; and thanks to you this people are now relying on what is false. Hence – the Lord says this, “I am going to throw you off the face of the earth: you are going to die this year since you have preached apostasy from the Lord.”’

  The prophet Hananiah died the same year, in the seventh month.
