If a grain of wheat falls on the ground and dies, it yields a rich harvest

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. John 12: 24-26 

Jesus said to his disciples:

‘I tell you, most solemnly,

unless a wheat grain falls on the ground and dies,

it remains only a single grain;

but if it dies,

it yields a rich harvest.

Anyone who loves his life loses it;

anyone who hates his life in this world

will keep it for the eternal life.

If a man serves me, he must follow me,

wherever I am, my servant will be there too.

If anyone serves me, my Father will honour him.’

God loves a cheerful giver

A Reading from the Second Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 9:6-10 

Do not forget: thin sowing means thin reaping; the more you sow, the more you reap. Each one should give what he has decided in his own mind, not grudgingly or because he is made to, for God loves a cheerful giver. And there is no limit to the blessings which God can send you – he will make sure that you will always have all you need for yourselves in every possible circumstance, and still have something to spare for all sorts of good works. As scripture says: He was free in almsgiving, and gave to the poor: his good deeds will never be forgotten.

  The one who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide you with all the seed you want and make the harvest of your good deeds a larger one.

அக்காலத்தில்

சீடர்கள் இயேசுவை அணுகி, “விண்ணரசில் மிகப் பெரியவர் யார்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அவர் ஒரு சிறு பிள்ளையை அழைத்து அவர்கள் நடுவில் நிறுத்தி, பின்வருமாறு கூறினார்:

“நீங்கள் மனந்திரும்பிச் சிறு பிள்ளைகளைப் போல் ஆகாவிட்டால் விண்ணரசில் புகமாட்டீர்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். இந்தச் சிறு பிள்ளையைப்போலத் தம்மைத் தாழ்த்திக்கொள்பவரே விண்ணரசில் மிகப் பெரியவர். இத்தகைய சிறு பிள்ளை ஒன்றை என் பெயரால் ஏற்றுக்கொள்பவர் எவரும் என்னையே ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறார்.

இச்சிறியோருள் ஒருவரையும் நீங்கள் இழிவாகக் கருதவேண்டாம்; கவனமாயிருங்கள்! இவர்களுடைய வானதூதர்கள் என் விண்ணகத் தந்தையின் திருமுன் எப்பொழுதும் இருக்கின்றார்கள் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன். ஏனெனில் மானிடமகன் நெறி தவறியோரை மீட்கவே வந்தார்.

இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியைப்பற்றி நீங்கள் என்ன நினைக்கிறீர்கள்? ஒருவரிடம் இருக்கும் நூறு ஆடுகளுள் ஒன்று வழி தவறி அலைந்தால், அவர் தொண்ணூற்றொன்பது ஆடுகளையும் மலைப் பகுதியில் விட்டுவிட்டு, வழிதவறி அலையும் ஆட்டைத் தேடிச் செல்வார் அல்லவா? அவர் அதைக் கண்டுபிடித்தால், வழிதவறி அலையாத தொண்ணூற்றொன்பது ஆடுகளையும் பற்றி மகிழ்ச்சியடைவதை விட, வழி தவறிய அந்த ஓர் ஆட்டைப் பற்றியே மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைவார் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன். அவ்வாறே இச்சிறியோருள் ஒருவர்கூட நெறி தவறிப் போகக் கூடாது என்பதே உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையின் திருவுளம்.”

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 18:1-5,10,12-14 

The disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, ‘I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

  ‘Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.

  ‘See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven are continually in the presence of my Father in heaven.

  ‘Tell me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray? I tell you solemnly, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at all. Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.’

I, Ezekiel, heard a voice speaking. It said, ‘You, son of man, listen to the words I say; do not be a rebel like that rebellious set. Open your mouth and eat what I am about to give you.’ I looked. A hand was there, stretching out to me and holding a scroll. He unrolled it in front of me; it was written on back and front; on it was written ‘lamentations, wailings, moanings.’ He said, ‘Son of man, eat what is given to you; eat this scroll, then go and speak to the House of Israel.’ I opened my mouth; he gave me the scroll to eat and said, ‘Son of man, feed and be satisfied by the scroll I am giving you.’ I ate it, and it tasted sweet as honey.

கலிலேயாவில் சீடர்கள் ஒன்றுதிரண்டிருக்கும் போது இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “மானிட மகன் மக்களின் கையில் ஒப்புவிக்கப்பட இருக்கிறார். அவர்கள் அவரைக் கொலை செய்வார்கள்; ஆனால் அவர் மூன்றாம் நாள் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படுவார்” என்றார். அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் மிகவும் துயரடைந்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் கப்பர்நாகுமுக்கு வந்தபோது கோவில் வரியாக இரண்டு திராக்மா தண்டுவோர் பேதுருவிடம் வந்து, “உங்கள் போதகர் இரண்டு திராக்மா வரியைச் செலுத்துவதில்லையா?” என்று கேட்டனர். அவர், “ஆம், செலுத்துகிறார்” என்றார்.

பின்பு வீட்டிற்குள் வந்து பேதுரு பேசத் தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்பே இயேசு, “சீமோனே உனக்கு எப்படித் தோன்றுகிறது? இவ்வுலக அரசர்கள் சுங்க வரியையோ தலைவரியையோ யாரிடமிருந்து பெறுகின்றார்கள்? தங்களுடைய மக்களிடமிருந்தா? மற்றவரிடமிருந்தா?” என்று கேட்டார். “மற்றவரிடமிருந்துதான்” என்று பேதுரு பதிலளித்தார்.

இயேசு அவரிடம், “அப்படியானால் குடிமக்கள் இதற்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டவரல்ல. ஆயினும் நாம் அவர்களுக்குத் தடையாய் இருக்கக் கூடாது. எனவே நீ போய்க் கடலில் தூண்டில் போடு; முதலில் அகப்படும் மீனை எடுத்து அதன் வாயைத் திறந்து பார்த்தால் ஸ்தாத்தேர் நாணயத்தைக் காண்பாய். அதை எடுத்து உன் சார்பாகவும் என் சார்பாகவும் அவர்களிடம் செலுத்து” என்றார்.
