உலகம் தோன்றுவதற்கு முன்பே கடவுள் நம்மைக் கிறிஸ்து வழியாகத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் எபேசியருக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 1-10

இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவோடு இணைந்து நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு வாழும் எபேசு நகர இறைமக்களுக்கு, கடவுளின் திருவுளத்தால் திருத்தூதனாயிருக்கும் பவுல் எழுதுவது: நம் தந்தையாம் கடவுளிடமிருந்தும் ஆண்டவராம் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவிடமிருந்தும் உங்களுக்கு அருளும் அமைதியும் உரித்தாகுக!

நம் ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் தந்தையும் கடவுளுமானவர் போற்றி! அவர் விண்ணகம் சார்ந்த, ஆவிக்குரிய ஆசி அனைத்தையும் கிறிஸ்து வழியாக நம்மீது பொழிந்துள்ளார். நாம் தூயோராகவும், மாசற்றோராகவும் தம் திருமுன் விளங்கும்படி, உலகம் தோன்றுவதற்கு முன்பே கடவுள் நம்மைக் கிறிஸ்து வழியாகத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்தார். அவர் நம்மை இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மூலம் தமக்குச் சொந்தமான பிள்ளைகளாக்கிக் கொள்ள அன்பினால் முன்குறித்து வைத்தார்.

இதுவே அவரது விருப்பம்; இதுவே அவரது திருவுளம். இவ்வாறு தம் அன்பார்ந்த மகன் வழியாக நம்மீது ஒப்புயர்வற்ற அருளைப் பொழிந்தருளியதால் அவரது புகழைப் பாடுகிறோம். கிறிஸ்து இரத்தம் சிந்தி தம் அருள்வளத்திற்கு ஏற்ப நமக்கு மீட்பு அளித்துள்ளார்; இம்மீட்பால் குற்றங்களிலிருந்து நாம் மன்னிப்புப் பெறுகிறோம். அந்த அருளை அவர் நம்மில் பெருகச் செய்து, அனைத்து ஞானத்தையும் அறிவுத் திறனையும் தந்துள்ளார். அவர் தமது திருவுளத்தின் மறைபொருளை நமக்குத் தெரியப்படுத்தியுள்ளார். இது கிறிஸ்து வழியாகக் கடவுள் விரும்பிச் செய்த தீர்மானம். கால நிறைவில் விண்ணிலுள்ளவை, மண்ணிலுள்ளவை அனைத்தையுமே கிறிஸ்துவின் தலைமையில் ஒன்று சேர்க்கவேண்டும் என்ற திட்டமே அம்மறைபொருள்.

Jesus said: ‘Alas for you who build the tombs of the prophets, the men your ancestors killed! In this way you both witness what your ancestors did and approve it; they did the killing, you do the building.

  ‘And that is why the Wisdom of God said, “I will send them prophets and apostles; some they will slaughter and persecute, so that this generation will have to answer for every prophet’s blood that has been shed since the foundation of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was murdered between the altar and the sanctuary.” Yes, I tell you, this generation will have to answer for it all.

  ‘Alas for you lawyers who have taken away the key of knowledge! You have not gone in yourselves, and have prevented others going in who wanted to.’

  When he left the house, the scribes and the Pharisees began a furious attack on him and tried to force answers from him on innumerable questions, setting traps to catch him out in something he might say.

Before the world was made, God chose us in Christ

Ephesians 1:1-10 

From Paul, appointed by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, to the saints who are faithful to Christ Jesus. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessed be God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who has blessed us with all the spiritual blessings of heaven in Christ.

Before the world was made, he chose us, chose us in Christ,

to be holy and spotless, and to live through love in his presence,

determining that we should become his adopted sons, through Jesus Christ

for his own kind purposes,

to make us praise the glory of his grace,

his free gift to us in the Beloved,

in whom, through his blood, we gain our freedom, the forgiveness of our sins.

Such is the richness of the grace

which he has showered on us

in all wisdom and insight.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 42-46

அக்காலத்தில் இயேசு கூறியது:

“ஐயோ! பரிசேயரே உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! நீங்கள் புதினா, கறியிலை மற்றும் கீரைச் செடிவகைகள் எல்லாவற்றிலும் பத்திலொரு பங்கைக் காணிக்கையாகப் படைக்கிறீர்கள். ஆனால் நீதியையும் கடவுளின் அன்பையும் பொருட்படுத்துவதில்லை. இவற்றைத்தான் கடைப்பிடித்திருக்க வேண்டும்; ஆனால் அவற்றையும் விட்டுவிடலாகாது.

திருச்சட்ட அறிஞருள் ஒருவர் அவரைப் பார்த்து, “போதகரே, இவற்றைச் சொல்லி எங்களை இழிவு படுத்துகிறீர்” என்றார்.

அதற்கு அவர், “ஐயோ! திருச்சட்ட அறிஞரே, உங்களுக்கும் கேடு! ஏனென்றால் நீங்கள் தாங்க முடியாத சுமைகளை மக்கள் மேல் சுமத்துகிறீர்கள்; நீங்களோ அந்தச் சுமைகளை ஒரு விரலால் கூடத் தொடமாட்டீர்கள்.”

கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவுக்கு உரியவர்கள் தங்கள் ஊனியல்பைச் சிலுவையில் அறைந்துவிட்டார்கள்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கலாத்தியருக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 5: 18-25

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நீங்கள் தூய ஆவியால் வழிநடத்தப்பட்டால் திருச்சட்டத்திற்கு உட்பட்டவர்களாய் இருக்கமாட்டீர்கள்.

ஊனியல்பின் செயல்கள் யாவருக்கும் தெளிவாய்த் தெரியும். அவை பரத்தைமை, கெட்ட நடத்தை, காம வெறி, சிலை வழிபாடு, பில்லி சூனியம், பகைமை, சண்டை சச்சரவு, பொறாமை, சீற்றம், கட்சி மனப்பான்மை, பிரிவினை, பிளவு, அழுக்காறு, குடிவெறி, களியாட்டம் முதலியவை ஆகும். இத்தகையவற்றில் ஈடுபடுவோர் இறையாட்சியை உரிமைப்பேறாக அடைவதில்லை என்று நான் ஏற்கெனவே சொன்னேன். அதையே இப்போதும் மீண்டும் சொல்கிறேன்.

ஆனால் தூய ஆவியின் கனியோ, அன்பு, மகிழ்ச்சி, அமைதி, பொறுமை, பரிவு, நன்னயம், நம்பிக்கை, கனிவு, தன்னடக்கம் என்பவை ஆகும். இவை உள்ள இடத்தில் திருச்சட்டத்திற்கு இடமில்லை. கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவுக்கு உரியவர்கள் தங்கள் ஊனியல்பை அதன் இழிவு உணர்ச்சிகளோடும் இச்சைகளோடும் சேர்த்துச் சிலுவையில் அறைந்து விட்டார்கள். தூய ஆவியின் துணையால் நாம் வாழ்கிறோம். எனவே அந்த ஆவி காட்டும் நெறியிலேயே நடக்க முயலுவோம்.

The Lord said to the Pharisees: ‘Alas for you Pharisees! You who pay your tithe of mint and rue and all sorts of garden herbs and overlook justice and the love of God! These you should have practised, without leaving the others undone. Alas for you Pharisees who like taking the seats of honour in the synagogues and being greeted obsequiously in the market squares! Alas for you, because you are like the unmarked tombs that men walk on without knowing it!

  A lawyer then spoke up. ‘Master,’ he said ‘when you speak like this you insult us too.’

  ‘Alas for you lawyers also,’ he replied ‘because you load on men burdens that are unendurable, burdens that you yourselves do not move a finger to lift.’

To belong to Christ, crucify all self-indulgence

A Reading from the letter of St.Paul to Galatians 5:18-25 

If you are led by the Spirit, no law can touch you. When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: fornication, gross indecency and sexual irresponsibility; idolatry and sorcery; feuds and wrangling, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels; disagreements, factions, envy; drunkenness, orgies and similar things. I warn you now, as I warned you before: those who behave like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. What the Spirit brings is very different: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness, gentleness and self-control. There can be no law against things like that, of course. You cannot belong to Christ Jesus unless you crucify all self-indulgent passions and desires.

  Since the Spirit is our life, let us be directed by the Spirit.
