Jesus chooses his twelve apostles

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 6:12-19 

Jesus went out into the hills to pray; and he spent the whole night in prayer to God. When day came he summoned his disciples and picked out twelve of them; he called them ‘apostles’: Simon whom he called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot who became a traitor.

  He then came down with them and stopped at a piece of level ground where there was a large gathering of his disciples with a great crowd of people from all parts of Judaea and from Jerusalem and from the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon who had come to hear him and to be cured of their diseases. People tormented by unclean spirits were also cured, and everyone in the crowd was trying to touch him because power came out of him that cured them all.

In Christ you are no longer aliens, but citizens like us

Ephesians 2:19-22 

You are no longer aliens or foreign visitors: you are citizens like all the saints, and part of God’s household. You are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus himself for its main cornerstone. As every structure is aligned on him, all grow into one holy temple in the Lord; and you too, in him, are being built into a house where God lives, in the Spirit.

அக்காலத்தில்

பரிசேயர் சிலர் இயேசுவிடம் வந்து, “இங்கிருந்து போய்விடும்; ஏனெனில் ஏரோது உம்மைக் கொல்ல வேண்டும் என்றிருக்கிறான்” என்று கூறினர். அதற்கு அவர் கூறியது: “இன்றும் நாளையும் பேய்களை ஓட்டுவேன்; பிணிகளைப் போக்குவேன்; மூன்றாம் நாளில் என் பணி நிறைவுபெறும் என நீங்கள் போய் அந்த நரியிடம் கூறுங்கள். இன்றும் நாளையும் அதற்கடுத்த நாளும் நான் தொடர்ந்து சென்றாக வேண்டும். ஏனெனில், இறைவாக்கினர் ஒருவர் எருசலேமுக்கு வெளியே மடிவது என்பதை நினைத்துக்கூடப் பார்க்க முடியாதே!

எருசலேமே, எருசலேமே, இறைவாக்கினரைக் கொல்லும் நகரே! உன்னிடம் அனுப்பப்பட்டோரைக் கல்லால் எறிகிறாயே! கோழி தன் குஞ்சுகளைத் தன் இறக்கைக்குள் கூட்டிச் சேர்ப்பது போல நானும் உன் மக்களை அரவணைத்துக்கொள்ள எத்தனையோ முறை விரும்பினேன்; உனக்கு விருப்பமில்லையே!

இதோ, உங்கள் இறை இல்லம் கைவிடப்படும். ‘ஆண்டவரின் பெயரால் வருபவர் ஆசி பெற்றவர்’ என நீங்கள் கூறும் நாள் வரும்வரை என்னைக் காணமாட்டீர்கள் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நீங்கள் ஆண்டவரோடு இணைந்து, அவர் தரும் வலிமையாலும் ஆற்றலாலும் வலுவூட்டப் பெறுங்கள். அலகையின் ஏமாற்று வழிகளை எதிர்த்து நிற்கும் வலிமை பெறும்படி கடவுள் அருளும் எல்லாப் படைக்கலன்களையும் அணிந்துகொள்ளுங்கள். ஏனென்றால் நாம் மனிதர்களோடு மட்டும் போராடுவதில்லை. ஆட்சிபுரிவோர், அதிகாரம் செலுத்துவோர், இருள் நிறைந்த இவ்வுலகின்மீது ஆற்றல் உடையோர், வான் வெளியிலுள்ள தீய ஆவிகள் ஆகியவற்றோடும் போராடுகிறோம்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 13: 31-35 

Some Pharisees came up to Jesus. ‘Go away’ they said. ‘Leave this place, because Herod means to kill you.’ He replied, ‘You may go and give that fox this message: Learn that today and tomorrow I cast out devils and on the third day attain my end. But for today and tomorrow and the next day I must go on, since it would not be right for a prophet to die outside Jerusalem.

  ‘Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often have I longed to gather your children, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you refused! So be it! Your house will be left to you. Yes, I promise you, you shall not see me till the time comes when you say:

‘Blessings on him who comes in the name of the Lord!’

Put on God's armour and resist the devil

Ephesians 6:10-20 

Grow strong in the Lord, with the strength of his power. Put God’s armour on so as to be able to resist the devil’s tactics. For it is not against human enemies that we have to struggle, but against the Sovereignties and the Powers who originate the darkness in this world, the spiritual army of evil in the heavens. That is why you must rely on God’s armour, or you will not be able to put up any resistance when the worst happens, or have enough resources to hold your ground.

  So stand your ground, with truth buckled round your waist, and integrity for a breastplate, wearing for shoes on your feet the eagerness to spread the gospel of peace and always carrying the shield of faith so that you can use it to put out the burning arrows of the evil one. And then you must accept salvation from God to be your helmet and receive the word of God from the Spirit to use as a sword.

  Pray all the time, asking for what you need, praying in the Spirit on every possible occasion. Never get tired of staying awake to pray for all the saints; and pray for me to be given an opportunity to open my mouth and speak without fear and give out the mystery of the gospel of which I am an ambassador in chains; pray that in proclaiming it I may speak as boldly as I ought to.

பிள்ளைகளே, உங்கள் பெற்றோருக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியுங்கள். ஆண்டவரின் அடியாருக்கு இதுவே ஏற்புடையது. “உன் தந்தையையும் தாயையும் மதித்து நட” என்பதே வாக்குறுதியை உள்ளடக்கிய முதலாவது கட்டளை. “இதனால் நீ நலம் பெறுவாய்; மண்ணுலகில் நீடூழி வாழ்வாய்” என்பதே அவ்வாக்குறுதி. தந்தையரே, உங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு எரிச்சல் மூட்டாதீர்கள். மாறாக அவர்களை ஆண்டவருக்கேற்ற முறையில் கண்டித்துத் திருத்தி, அறிவு புகட்டி வளர்த்து வாருங்கள்.

அடிமைகளே, நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிவது போல் இவ்வுலகில் உங்களுக்குத் தலைவர்களாக இருப்பவர்களுக்கு அச்சத்தோடும் நடுக்கத்தோடும், முழு மனத்தோடும் கீழ்ப்படியுங்கள். மனிதர்களுக்கு உகந்தவர்களாகுமாறு, வேலை செய்வதாகக் காட்டிக் கொள்பவர்களாய் இராமல் கிறிஸ்துவின் பணியாளராய்க் கடவுளின் திருவுளத்தை உளமார நிறைவேற்றுங்கள். மனிதருக்காக அன்றிக் கடவுளுக்காகவே செய்வது போல நல்மனத்தோடு வேலை செய்யுங்கள். அடிமையாயினும் உரிமைக் குடிமகனாயினும், நன்மை செய்யும் ஒவ்வொருவரும் ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்து நன்மையே பெறுவர். இது உங்களுக்குத் தெரியும் அன்றோ!

தலைவர்களே, நீங்களும் உங்கள் அடிமைகளிடம் அவ்வாறே நடந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். அவர்களை அச்சுறுத்துவதை விட்டுவிடுங்கள். அவர்களுக்கும் உங்களுக்கும் ஒரே தலைவர் விண்ணுலகில் உண்டு என்பதையும் அவர் ஆள் பார்த்துச் செயல்படுவதில்லை என்பதையும் அறிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்.
