கடவுளே வந்து உங்களை விடுவிப்பார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

பாலைநிலமும் பாழ்வெளியும் அகமகிழும்; பொட்டல் நிலம் அக்களிப் படைந்து, லீலிபோல் பூத்துக் குலுங்கும். அது வளமாய்ப் பூத்துக் குலுங்கி மகிழ்ந்து பாடிக் களிப்படையும்; லெபனோனின் எழில் அதற்கு அளிக்கப் படும்; கர்மேல், சாரோனின் மேன்மை அதில் ஒளிரும்; ஆண்டவரின் மாட்சியையும் நம் கடவுளின் பெருமையையும் அவர்கள் காண்பார்கள்.

தளர்ந்துபோன கைகளைத் திடப்படுத்துங்கள்; தள்ளாடும் முழங்கால்களை உறுதிப்படுத்துங்கள். உள்ளத்தில் உறுதியற்றவர்களை நோக்கி, “திடன் கொள்ளுங்கள், அஞ்சாதிருங்கள்; இதோ, உங்கள் கடவுள் பழிதீர்க்க வருவார்; அநீதிக்குப் பழிவாங்கும் கடவுளாக வந்து உங்களை விடுவிப்பார்.”

அப்போது பார்வையற்றோரின் கண்கள் பார்க்கும்; காது கேளாதோரின் செவிகள் கேட்கும். அப்பொழுது, கால் ஊனமுற்றோர் மான்போல் துள்ளிக்குதிப்பர்; வாய்பேசாதோர் மகிழ்ந்து பாடுவர்;

ஆண்டவரால் விடுவிக்கப்பட்டோர் திரும்பி வருவர்; மகிழ்ந்து பாடிக்கொண்டே சீயோனுக்கு வருவர்; அவர்கள் முகம் என்றும் உள்ள மகிழ்ச்சியால் மலர்ந்திருக்கும்; அவர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியும் பூரிப்பும் அடைவார்கள்; துன்பமும் துயரமும் பறந்தோடும்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 11:2-11 

John in his prison had heard what Christ was doing and he sent his disciples to ask him, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or have we got to wait for someone else?’ Jesus answered, ‘Go back and tell John what you hear and see; the blind see again, and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised to life and the Good News is proclaimed to the poor; and happy is the man who does not lose faith in me.’

  As the messengers were leaving, Jesus began to talk to the people about John: ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the breeze? No? Then what did you go out to see? A man wearing fine clothes? Oh no, those who wear fine clothes are to be found in palaces. Then what did you go out for? To see a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet: he is the one of whom scripture says:

‘Look, I am going to send my messenger before you;

he will prepare your way before you.

‘I tell you solemnly, of all the children born of women, a greater than John the Baptist has never been seen; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he is.’

Do not lose heart; the Lord's coming will be soon

James 5:7-10 

Be patient, brothers, until the Lord’s coming. Think of a farmer: how patiently he waits for the precious fruit of the ground until it has had the autumn rains and the spring rains! You too have to be patient; do not lose heart, because the Lord’s coming will be soon. Do not make complaints against one another, brothers, so as not to be brought to judgement yourselves; the Judge is already to be seen waiting at the gates. For your example, brothers, in submitting with patience, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

God himself is coming to save you

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 35:1-6,10 

Let the wilderness and the dry-lands exult,

let the wasteland rejoice and bloom,

let it bring forth flowers like the jonquil,

let it rejoice and sing for joy.

The glory of Lebanon is bestowed on it,

the splendour of Carmel and Sharon;

they shall see the glory of the Lord,

the splendour of our God.

Strengthen all weary hands,

steady all trembling knees

and say to all faint hearts,

‘Courage! Do not be afraid.

‘Look, your God is coming,

vengeance is coming,

the retribution of God;

he is coming to save you.’

Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened,

the ears of the deaf unsealed,

then the lame shall leap like a deer

and the tongues of the dumb sing for joy

for those the Lord has ransomed shall return.

They will come to Zion shouting for joy,

இயேசுவும் சீடர்களும் மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்தபோது சீடர்கள் அவரிடம், “எலியாதான் முதலில் வரவேண்டும் என்று மறைநூல் அறிஞர்கள் கூறுகிறார்களே, அது எப்படி?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, “எலியா வந்து எல்லாவற்றையும் சீர்ப்படுத்தப் போகிறார் என்று கூறுவது உண்மையே. ஆனால் நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: எலியா ஏற்கெனவே வந்துவிட்டார். அவரை மக்கள் கண்டுணரவில்லை. மாறாக, தாங்கள் விரும்பியவாறெல்லாம் அவருக்குச் செய்தார்கள். அவ்வாறே மானிடமகனையும் அவர்கள் துன்புறுத்துவார்கள்” என்றார். திருமுழுக்கு யோவானைப் பற்றியே அவர் தங்களோடு பேசினார் என்பதை அப்பொழுது சீடர்கள் புரிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.

இறைவாக்கினர் எலியா நெருப்புபோல் எழுந்தார்; தீவட்டிபோல் அவருடைய சொல் பற்றியெரிந்தது. மக்கள் மீது பஞ்சம் வரச் செய்தார்; தம் பற்றார்வத்தால் அவர்களை எண்ணிக்கையில் சிலராக்கினார். ஆண்டவருடைய சொல்லால் வானம் பொழிவதை நிறுத்தினார்; மும்முறை நெருப்பு விழச் செய்தார். எலியாவே, உம்முடைய வியத்தகு செயல்களில் நீர் எத்துணை மாட்சிக்குரியவர்! உமக்கு இணையாய் யார் பெருமை பாராட்டக்கூடும்?

தீச்சூறாவளியில் நெருப்புக் குதிரைகள் பூட்டிய தேரில் நீர் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்பட்டீர். ஆண்டவருடைய சினம் சீற்றமாய் மாறுமுன் அதைத் தணிப்பதற்கும் தந்தையின் உள்ளத்தை மகனை நோக்கித் திருப்புவதற்கும் யாக்கோபின் குலங்களை மீண்டும் நிலைநிறுத்துவதற்கும் குறித்த காலங்களில் நீர் கடிந்து கொள்வீர் என்று எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது. உம்மைக் கண்டவர்களும் உமது அன்பில் துயில் கொண்டவர்களும் பேறுபெற்றோர். நாமும் வாழ்வது உறுதி.

Coming down from the mountain,

the disciples asked Jesus,

“Why then do the scribes say

that the prophet Elijah must come first?

Jesus answered them, “

Elijah is coming

to put everything in its place.

But I tell you,

Elijah has already come;

instead of acknowledging

him, they did whatever they wanted to him.

And likewise the Son of Man will suffer through them.

Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them

of John the Baptist.
