பிப்ரவரி 15 :  முதல் வாசகம்

இதோ! நிலமெல்லாம் உலர்ந்திருப்பதை நோவா கண்டார்.

தொடக்க நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 8: 6-13, 20-22

நாற்பது நாள்கள் முடிந்தபின் பேழையில் தாம் அமைத்திருந்த சாளரத்தை நோவா திறந்து, காகம் ஒன்றை வெளியே அனுப்பினார். அது மண்ணுலகில் வெள்ளம் வற்றும்வரை போவதும் வருவதுமாக இருந்தது.

பின்னர், நிலப்பரப்பிலிருந்து வெள்ளம் வடிந்துவிட்டதா என்று பார்க்கப் புறா ஒன்றைத் தம்மிடமிருந்து வெளியே அனுப்பினார். ஆனால் அதற்குக் கால்வைத்துத் தங்குவதற்கு இடம் தென்படாததால், அது அவரிடமே பேழைக்குத் திரும்பி வந்தது. ஏனெனில் நிலப்பரப்பு முழுவதிலும் இன்னும் வெள்ளம் நின்றது. ஆகவே அவர் தம் கையை நீட்டி அதைப் பிடித்துத் தம்மிடம் பேழைக்குள் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டார். அவர் இன்னும் ஏழு நாள்கள் காத்திருந்து மீண்டும் புறாவைப் பேழையிலிருந்து வெளியே அனுப்பினார். மாலையில் அது அவரிடம் திரும்பி வந்தபொழுது, அதன் அலகில் அது கொத்திக்கொண்டு வந்த ஒலிவ இலை இருந்தது. அப்பொழுது நோவா மண்ணுலகில் வெள்ளம் வற்றிவிட்டது என்று தெரிந்துகொண்டார். இன்னும் ஏழு நாள்கள் காத்திருந்தபின், புறாவை வெளியே அனுப்பினார். அது அவரிடம் மறுபடி திரும்பி வரவில்லை.

அவருக்கு அறுநூற்றொன்று வயதான ஆண்டின் முதல் மாதத்தில் முதல் நாளில் மண்ணுலகப் பரப்பில் இருந்த வெள்ளம் வற்றியது. அப்பொழுது நோவா பேழையின் மேற்கூரையைத் திறந்து பார்த்தார். இதோ! நிலமெல்லாம் உலர்ந்திருந்தது.

அப்பொழுது நோவா ஆண்டவருக்கு ஒரு பலிபீடம் கட்டி அதன்மேல் எல்லா வகைத் தக்க விலங்குகள், தக்க பறவைகளிலிருந்து எடுக்கப்பட்டவற்றை எரிபலியாகச் செலுத்தினார். ஆண்டவர் நறுமணத்தை நுகர்ந்து, தமக்குள் சொல்லிக்கொண்டது: “மனிதரை முன்னிட்டு நிலத்தை இனி நான் சபிக்கவே மாட்டேன். ஏனெனில் மனிதரின் இதயச் சிந்தனை இளமையிலிருந்தே தீமையை உருவாக்குகின்றது. இப்பொழுது நான் செய்ததுபோல இனி எந்த உயிரையும் அழிக்கவே மாட்டேன். மண்ணுலகு இருக்கும் நாளளவும் விதைக்கும் காலமும் அறுவடைக் காலமும், குளிரும் வெப்பமும், கோடைக் காலமும் குளிர்க் காலமும், பகலும் இரவும் என்றும் ஓய்வதில்லை.”

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 8: 22-26 

Jesus and his disciples came to Bethsaida, and some people brought to him a blind man whom they begged him to touch. He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. Then putting spittle on his eyes and laying his hands on him, he asked, ‘Can you see anything?’ The man, who was beginning to see, replied, ‘I can see people; they look like trees to me, but they are walking about.’ Then he laid his hands on the man’s eyes again and he saw clearly; he was cured, and he could see everything plainly and distinctly. And Jesus sent him home, saying, ‘Do not even go into the village.’

The dove returns

A Reading from the Book of Genesis 8: 6-13, 20-22 

At the end of forty days Noah opened the porthole he had made in the ark and he sent out the raven. This went off, and flew back and forth until the waters dried up from the earth. Then he sent out the dove, to see whether the waters were receding from the surface of the earth. The dove, finding nowhere to perch, returned to him in the ark, for there was water over the whole surface of the earth; putting out his hand he took hold of it and brought it back into the ark with him. After waiting seven more days, again he sent out the dove from the ark. In the evening, the dove came back to him and there it was with a new olive-branch in its beak. So Noah realised that the waters were receding from the earth. After waiting seven more days he sent out the dove, and now it returned to him no more.

  It was in the six hundred and first year of Noah’s life, in the first month and on the first of the month, that the water dried up from the earth. Noah lifted back the hatch of the ark and looked out. The surface of the ground was dry!

  Noah built an altar for the Lord, and choosing from all the clean animals and all the clean birds he offered burnt offerings on the altar. The Lord smelt the appeasing fragrance and said to himself, ‘Never again will I curse the earth because of man, because his heart contrives evil from his infancy. Never again will I strike down every living thing as I have done.

‘As long as earth lasts,

sowing and reaping,

cold and heat,

summer and winter,

day and night

shall cease no more.’

அக்காலத்தில்

சீடர்கள் தங்களுக்குத் தேவையான அப்பங்களை எடுத்துச்செல்ல மறந்துவிட்டார்கள். படகில் அவர்களிடம் ஓர் அப்பம் மட்டுமே இருந்தது. அப்பொழுது இயேசு, “பரிசேயர், ஏரோதியர் ஆகியோரது புளிப்பு மாவைக் குறித்து மிகவும் கவனமாயிருங்கள்” என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார்.

அவர்களோ தங்களிடம் அப்பம் இல்லையே என்று ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இதை அறிந்த இயேசு அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் உங்களிடம் அப்பம் இல்லை என ஏன் பேசிக்கொள்கிறீர்கள்? இன்னுமா உணராமலும் புரிந்துகொள்ளாமலும் இருக்கிறீர்கள்? உங்கள் உள்ளம் மழுங்கியா போயிற்று? கண்ணிருந்தும் நீங்கள் காண்பதில்லையா? காதிருந்தும் நீங்கள் கேட்பதில்லையா? ஏன், உங்களுக்கு நினைவில்லையா? ஐந்து அப்பங்களை நான் ஐயாயிரம் பேருக்குப் பிட்டு அளித்தபோது, மீதியான துண்டுகளை எத்தனை கூடைகள் நிறைய எடுத்தீர்கள்?” என்று அவர் கேட்க, அவர்கள், “பன்னிரண்டு” என்றார்கள்.

“ஏழு அப்பங்களை நான் நாலாயிரம் பேருக்குப் பிட்டு அளித்தபோது மீதித் துண்டுகளை எத்தனை கூடைகள் நிறைய எடுத்தீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்க, அவர்கள், “ஏழு” என்றார்கள். மேலும் அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “இன்னும் உங்களுக்குப் புரியவில்லையா?” என்று கேட்டார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

மண்ணுலகில் மனிதர் செய்யும் தீமை பெருகுவதையும் அவர்களின் இதயச் சிந்தனைகளெல்லாம் நாள் முழுவதும் தீமையையே உருவாக்குவதையும் ஆண்டவர் கண்டார். மண்ணுலகில் மனிதரை உருவாக்கியதற்காக ஆண்டவர் மனம் வருந்தினார். அவரது உள்ளம் துயரமடைந்தது. அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர், “நான் படைத்த மனிதரை மண்ணிலிருந்து அழித்தொழிப்பேன். மனிதர்முதல் கால்நடைகள், ஊர்வன, வானத்துப் பறவைகள்வரை அனைத்தையும் அழிப்பேன். ஏனெனில் இவற்றை உருவாக்கியதற்காக நான் மனம் வருந்துகிறேன்” என்றார். ஆனால் நோவாவுக்கு ஆண்டவரின் அருள் பார்வை கிடைத்தது.

அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர் நோவாவிற்குக் கூறியது: “நீ உன் குடும்பத்தார் அனைவரோடும் பேழைக்குள் செல். ஏனெனில், இத்தலைமுறையில் உன்னையே நான் நேர்மையானவனாகக் காண்கிறேன். தக்க விலங்குகள் எல்லாவற்றிலிருந்தும் ஆணும் பெண்ணுமாக ஏழு சோடிகளையும், தகாத விலங்குகளிலிருந்து ஆணும் பெண்ணுமாக ஒரு சோடியையும், வானத்துப் பறவைகளிலிருந்து ஆணும் பெண்ணுமாக ஏழு சோடிகளையும் மண்ணுலகெங்கும் அவற்றின் இனங்கள் உயிர் பிழைத்துக்கொள்வதற்காக உன்னுடன் சேர்த்துக்கொள். ஏனெனில் இன்னும் ஏழு நாள்களில் மண்ணுலகின்மேல் நாற்பது பகலும் நாற்பது இரவும் நான் மழை பெய்விக்கப் போகிறேன். நான் உருவாக்கிய உயிரினங்களை எல்லாம் இந்த நிலத்திலிருந்து அழித்தொழிப்பேன்."

ஆண்டவர் கட்டளையிட்டபடியே நோவா எல்லாவற்றையும் செய்தார். ஏழு நாள்களுக்குப்பின் மண்ணுலகில் வெள்ளப்பெருக்கு ஏற்பட்டது.

Do you not yet understand? Have you no perception? Are your minds closed? Have you eyes that do not see, ears that do not hear? Or do you not remember? Noah's Ark

A Reading from the Book of Genesis 6:5-8, 7:1-5, 10 

The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that the thoughts in his heart fashioned nothing but wickedness all day long. The Lord regretted having made man on the earth, and his heart grieved. ‘I will rid the earth’s face of man, my own creation,’ the Lord said ‘and of animals also, reptiles too, and the birds of heaven; for I regret having made them.’ But Noah had found favour with the Lord.

  The Lord said to Noah, ‘Go aboard the ark, you and all your household, for you alone among this generation do I see as a good man in my judgement. Of all the clean animals you must take seven of each kind, both male and female; of the unclean animals you must take two, a male and its female (and of the birds of heaven also, seven of each kind, both male and female), to propagate their kind over the whole earth. For in seven days’ time I mean to make it rain on the earth for forty days and nights, and I will rid the earth of every living thing that I made.’ Noah did all that the Lord ordered.

  Seven days later the waters of the flood appeared on the earth.
