அந்நாள்களில்

ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு எனக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. “நீயோ உன் இடையை வரிந்து கட்டிக்கொள். புறப்படு, நான் கட்டளையிடும் அனைத்தையும் அவர்களிடம் சொல். அவர்கள் முன் கலக்கமுறாதே. இல்லையேல், அவர்கள் முன் உன்னைக் கலக்கமுறச் செய்வேன். இதோ, இன்று நான் உன்னை நாடு முழுவதற்கும், அதாவது, யூதாவின் அரசர்களுக்கும் அதன் தலைவர்களுக்கும் அதன் குருக்களுக்கும் நாட்டின் மக்களுக்கும் எதிராக அரண்சூழ் நகராகவும் இரும்புத் தூணாகவும் வெண்கலச் சுவராகவும் ஆக்கியுள்ளேன். அவர்கள் உனக்கு எதிராகப் போராடுவார்கள். எனினும் உன் மேல் வெற்றி கொள்ள அவர்களால் இயலாது. ஏனெனில் உன்னை விடுவிக்க நான் உன்னோடு இருக்கிறேன்” என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர்.

The beheading of John the Baptist

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 6:17-29

Herod sent to have John arrested, and had him chained up in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife whom he had married. For John had told Herod, ‘It is against the law for you to have your brother’s wife.’ As for Herodias, she was furious with him and wanted to kill him; but she was not able to, because Herod was afraid of John, knowing him to be a good and holy man, and gave him his protection. When he had heard him speak he was greatly perplexed, and yet he liked to listen to him.

  An opportunity came on Herod’s birthday when he gave a banquet for the nobles of his court, for his army officers and for the leading figures in Galilee. When the daughter of this same Herodias came in and danced, she delighted Herod and his guests; so the king said to the girl, ‘Ask me anything you like and I will give it you.’ And he swore her an oath, ‘I will give you anything you ask, even half my kingdom.’ She went out and said to her mother, ‘What shall I ask for?’ She replied, ‘The head of John the Baptist.’ The girl hurried straight back to the king and made her request, ‘I want you to give me John the Baptist’s head, here and now, on a dish.’ The king was deeply distressed but, thinking of the oaths he had sworn and of his guests, he was reluctant to break his word to her. So the king at once sent one of the bodyguard with orders to bring John’s head. The man went off and beheaded him in prison; then he brought the head on a dish and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. When John’s disciples heard about this, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

all I command you.

Do not be dismayed at their presence,

or in their presence I will make you dismayed.

‘I, for my part, today will make you

into a fortified city,

a pillar of iron,

and a wall of bronze

to confront all this land:

the kings of Judah, its princes,

its priests and the country people.

They will fight against you

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கூறியது: “வெளிவேடக்கார மறைநூல் அறிஞரே, பரிசேயரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! மக்கள் நுழையாதவாறு அவர்கள் முன்பாக விண்ணக வாயிலை அடைத்துவிடுகிறீர்கள்; நீங்கள் நுழைவதில்லை, நுழைவோரையும் விடுவதில்லை.

வெளிவேடக்கார மறைநூல் அறிஞரே, பரிசேயரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஒருவரையாவது உங்கள் சமயத்தில் சேர்ப்பதற்கு, நாடு என்றும் கடல் என்றும் பாராது சுற்றி அலைகின்றீர்கள்; அவ்வாறு சேர்த்தபின் அவரை உங்களை விட இரு மடங்கு நரகத் தண்டனைக்கு ஆளாக்குகிறீர்கள்.

குருட்டு வழிகாட்டிகளே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! யாராவது திருக்கோவிலின்மீது ஆணையிட்டால் ஒன்றுமில்லை; ஆனால் அவர் கோவிலின் பொன்மீது ஆணையிட்டால் அதை நிறைவேற்றக் கடமைப்பட்டவர் என்கிறீர்கள். குருட்டு மடையரே! எது சிறந்தது? பொன்னா? பொன்னைத் தூயதாக்கும் திருக்கோவிலா? யாராவது பலிபீடத்தின்மீது ஆணையிட்டால் ஒன்றுமில்லை; ஆனால் அவர் அதில் படைக்கப்பட்ட காணிக்கையின்மீது ஆணையிட்டால் அதை நிறைவேற்றக் கடமைப்பட்டவர் என்கிறீர்கள். குருடரே! எது சிறந்தது? காணிக்கையா? காணிக்கையைத் தூயதாக்கும் பலிபீடமா?

எனவே பலிபீடத்தின்மீது ஆணையிடுகிறவர் அதன்மீதும் அதன் மேலுள்ள அனைத்தின்மீதும் ஆணையிடுகிறார். திருக்கோவிலின்மீது ஆணையிடுகிறவர் அதன்மீதும் அதில் குடிகொண்டிருக்கிறவர்மீதும் ஆணையிடுகிறார். வானத்தின்மீது ஆணையிடுகிறவர் கடவுளின் அரியணைமீதும் அதில் வீற்றிருக்கிற கடவுள்மீதும் ஆணையிடுகிறார்.”

எப்படியெனில் ஆண்டவருடைய வார்த்தை உங்கள் நடுவிலிருந்தே பரவியது. கடவுள்மீது நீங்கள் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருப்பது மாசிதோனியாவிலும் அக்காயாவிலும் மட்டும் அல்ல, எல்லா இடங்களிலும் தெரிய வந்துள்ளது. எனவே இதைப்பற்றி நாங்கள் எடுத்துச் சொல்ல வேண்டிய தேவையே இல்லை. நாங்கள் உங்களிடம் வந்தபோது எவ்வாறு நீங்கள் எங்களை வரவேற்றீர்கள் என்று அவர்களே கூறுகிறார்கள். நீங்கள் எவ்வாறு சிலைகளை விட்டுவிட்டு, உண்மையான, வாழும் கடவுளுக்கு ஊழியம் புரியக் கடவுளிடம் திரும்பி வந்தீர்கள் என்றும் கூறிவருகிறார்கள். இவ்வாறு நீங்கள் வானினின்று வரும் அவருடைய மகன் இயேசுவுக்காகக் காத்திருக்கிறீர்கள். அவரே வரப்போகும் சினத்திலிருந்து நம்மை மீட்பவர். இறந்த அவரையே தந்தை உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்தார்.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 23:13-22 

Jesus said: ‘Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who shut up the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces, neither going in yourselves nor allowing others to go in who want to.

  ‘Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who travel over sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when you have him you make him twice as fit for hell as you are.

  ‘Alas for you, blind guides! You who say, “If a man swears by the Temple, it has no force; but if a man swears by the gold of the Temple, he is bound.” Fools and blind! For which is of greater worth, the gold or the Temple that makes the gold sacred? Or else, “If a man swears by the altar it has no force; but if a man swears by the offering that is on the altar, he is bound.” You blind men! For which is of greater worth, the offering or the altar that makes the offering sacred? Therefore, when a man swears by the altar he is swearing by that and by everything on it. And when a man swears by the Temple he is swearing by that and by the One who dwells in it. And when a man swears by heaven he is swearing by the throne of God and by the One who is seated there.’

You broke with idolatry when you were converted to God

1 Thessalonians 1:1-5, 8-10 

From Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonika which is in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ; wishing you grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  We always mention you in our prayers and thank God for you all, and constantly remember before God our Father how you have shown your faith in action, worked for love and persevered through hope, in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  We know, brothers, that God loves you and that you have been chosen, because when we brought the Good News to you, it came to you not only as words, but as power and as the Holy Spirit and as utter conviction. And you observed the sort of life we lived when we were with you, which was for your instruction, since it was from you that the word of the Lord started to spread – and not only throughout Macedonia and Achaia, for the news of your faith in God has spread everywhere. We do not need to tell other people about it: other people tell us how we started the work among you, how you broke with idolatry when you were converted to God and became servants of the real, living God; and how you are now waiting for Jesus, his Son, whom he raised from the dead, to come from heaven to save us from the retribution which is coming.
