என் மக்களே, என் அறிவுரைக்குச் செவிசாயுங்கள்; என் வாய்மொழிகளுக்குச் செவிகொடுங்கள்.

நீதிமொழிகள் மூலம் நான் பேசுவேன்; முற்காலத்து மறைச் செய்திகளை எடுத்துரைப்பேன். - பல்லவி

அவர்களை அவர் கொன்றபோது அவரைத் தேடினர்; மனம் மாறி இறைவனைக் கருத்தாய் நாடினர்.

கடவுள் தங்கள் கற்பாறை என்பதையும் உன்னதரான இறைவன் தங்கள் மீட்பர் என்பதையும் அவர்கள் நினைவில் கொண்டனர். - பல்லவி

ஆயினும், அவர்கள் உதட்டளவிலேயே அவரைப் புகழ்ந்தார்கள்; தங்கள் நாவினால் அவரிடம் பொய் சொன்னார்கள்.

கொள்ளிவாய்ப் பாம்பைப் பார்க்கிற ஒவ்வொருவனும் பிழைப்பான்.

எண்ணிக்கை நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 21: 4-9

அந்நாள்களில்

ஏதோம் நாட்டைச் சுற்றிப் போகும்படி ஓர் என்ற மலையிலிருந்து இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் ‘செங்கடல் சாலை’ வழியாகப் பயணப்பட்டனர்; அவ்வழியை முன்னிட்டு மக்கள் பொறுமை இழந்தனர். மக்கள் கடவுளுக்கும் மோசேக்கும் எதிராகப் பேசினர்: “இந்தப் பாலைநிலத்தில் மாளும்படி எங்களை எகிப்திலிருந்து கொண்டு வந்தது ஏன்? இங்கு உணவுமில்லை, தண்ணீருமில்லை, அற்பமான இந்த உணவு எங்களுக்கு வெறுத்துப் போய்விட்டது” என்றனர்.

உடனே ஆண்டவர் கொள்ளிவாய்ப் பாம்புகளை மக்களிடையே அனுப்பினார்; அவை கடிக்கவே இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களில் பலர் மாண்டனர். அப்போது மக்கள் மோசேயிடம் வந்து, “நாங்கள் பாவம் செய்துள்ளோம்; நாங்கள் ஆண்டவருக்கும் உமக்கும் எதிராகப் பேசியுள்ளோம்; அவர் இந்தப் பாம்புகளை அகற்றிவிடும்படி நீர் ஆண்டவரிடம் வேண்டிக் கொள்ளும்” என்றனர்.

அவ்வாறே மோசே மக்களுக்காக மன்றாடினார். அப்போது ஆண்டவர் மோசேயிடம், “கொள்ளிவாய்ப் பாம்பு ஒன்றைச் செய்து அதை ஒரு கம்பத்தில் பொருத்து; கடிக்கப்பட்டோரில் இதைப் பார்க்கிற ஒவ்வொருவனும் பிழைப்பான்” என்றார். அவ்வாறே மோசே ஒரு வெண்கலப் பாம்பைச் செய்து அதை ஒரு கம்பத்தில் பொருத்தினார்; பாம்பு கடித்த எந்த ஒரு மனிதனும் இந்த வெண்கலப் பாம்பைப் பார்த்து உயிர் பிழைப்பான்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 3: 13-17 

Jesus said to Nicodemus:

‘No one has gone up to heaven

except the one who came down from heaven,

the Son of Man who is in heaven;

and the Son of Man must be lifted up

as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,

so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.

Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son,

so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost

but may have eternal life.

For God sent his Son into the world

not to condemn the world,

but so that through him the world might be saved.’

Christ humbled himself but God raised him high

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Philippians 2: 6-11

His state was divine, yet Christ Jesus did not cling

to his equality with God but emptied himself to assume the condition of a slave and became as men are; and being as all men are, he was humbler yet, even to accepting death,

death on a cross. But God raised him high and gave him the name which is above all other names so that all beings

in the heavens, on earth and in the underworld, should bend the knee at the name of Jesus and that every tongue should acclaim

Jesus Christ as Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

On the way through the wilderness the people lost patience. They spoke against God and against Moses, ‘Why did you bring us out of Egypt to die in this wilderness? For there is neither bread nor water here; we are sick of this unsatisfying food.’

  At this God sent fiery serpents among the people; their bite brought death to many in Israel. The people came and said to Moses, ‘We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Intercede for us with the Lord to save us from these serpents.’ Moses interceded for the people, and the Lord answered him, ‘Make a fiery serpent and put it on a standard. அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு சீடர்மீது தம் பார்வையைப் பதித்துக் கூறியவை: “ஏழைகளே, நீங்கள் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் இறையாட்சி உங்களுக்கு உரியதே. இப்பொழுது பட்டினியாய் இருப்போரே, நீங்கள் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் நிறைவு பெறுவீர்கள். இப்பொழுது அழுதுகொண்டிருப்போரே, நீங்கள் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் சிரித்து மகிழ்வீர்கள்.

ஆனால் செல்வர்களே ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் எல்லாம் அனுபவித்துவிட்டீர்கள். இப்போது உண்டு கொழுத்திருப்போரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் பட்டினி கிடப்பீர்கள். இப்போது சிரித்து இன்புறுவோரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் துயருற்று அழுவீர்கள். மக்கள் எல்லாரும் உங்களைப் புகழ்ந்து பேசும்போது ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் அவர்களின் மூதாதையரும் போலி இறைவாக்கினருக்கு இவ்வாறே செய்தார்கள்.”

Happy are you who are poor, who are hungry, who weep

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 6: 20-26 

Fixing his eyes on his disciples Jesus said:

‘How happy are you who are poor: yours is the kingdom of God.

Happy you who are hungry now: you shall be satisfied.

Happy you who weep now: you shall laugh.

Happy are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal, on account of the Son of Man. Rejoice when that day comes and dance for joy, for then your reward will be great in heaven. This was the way their ancestors treated the prophets.

‘But alas for you who are rich: you are having your consolation now.

Alas for you who have your fill now: you shall go hungry.

Alas for you who laugh now: you shall mourn and weep.

‘Alas for you when the world speaks well of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the false prophets.’
