“Rejoice because your names are written in heaven” 

Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke 10:17-24

At that time

    the 72 disciples whom Jesus had sent

returned rejoicing, saying:

“Lord, even the demons

are subject to us in your name. »

    Jesus said to them:

“I watched Satan fall from heaven like lightning.

    Behold, I have given you power

to crush serpents and scorpions,

and over all the power of the Enemy:

absolutely nothing will harm you.

    However, do not rejoice

because the spirits are subject to you;

but rejoice

because your names are written in heaven. »

    At that very hour, Jesus exulted with joy under the action of the Holy Spirit,

and he said:

“Father, Lord of heaven and earth,

I proclaim your praise:

what you have hidden from the wise and learned. ,

you revealed it to the little ones.

Yes, Father, you wanted it this way in your benevolence.

    Everything was handed over to me by my Father.

No one knows who the Son is except the Father;

and no one knows who the Father is, except the Son

and the one to whom the Son wishes to reveal him. »

    Then he turned to his disciples

and said to them in particular:

“Blessed are the eyes that see what you see!

    For I tell you,

many prophets and kings

wanted to see what you see

and did not see it, and

to hear what you hear

and did not hear it. »

            – Let us acclaim the Word of God.

The poor have seen it, they are celebrating:

“Life and joy, to you who seek God! »

For the Lord listens to the humble,

he does not forget his own in prison.

May heaven and earth celebrate him,

the seas and all their inhabitants!

For God will come to save Zion

and rebuild the cities of Judah.

He will make it a dwelling, an inheritance:

heritage for the descendants of his servants,

     a home for those who love his name.

Reading the book of the prophet Baruch

Courage, my people,

you who are the part of Israel reserved for God!

    You were sold to the pagan nations,

but it was not for your destruction;

you have aroused the wrath of God:

for this reason you have been delivered over to your adversaries.

    For you have angered your Creator

by offering sacrifices to demons and not to God.

    You have forgotten the eternal God,

he who nourished you.

You also grieved Jerusalem,

she who raised you,

    because she saw the wrath of God falling upon you,

and she said:

“Listen, neighbors of Zion,

God has inflicted a grievous mourning on me.

    I saw captivity

which the Lord has inflicted on my sons and my daughters.

    I raised them in joy,

I let them go in tears and mourning.

    Let no one rejoice at my fate,

me who is a widow and abandoned by everyone.

I have been abandoned

because of the sins of my children,

because they turned away from the law of God.

    Courage, my children, cry out to God!

The one who put you through the test will remember you.

    Your thinking has led you astray from God;

once converted,

put ten times more ardor into seeking it.

    For he who brought these calamities upon you

ஆண்டவர் முன்னிலையில் நாம் பாவம் செய்தோம். நம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவருக்கு நாம் கீழ்ப்படியவில்லை.

இறைவாக்கினர் பாரூக்கு நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 15-22

நீங்கள் சொல்ல வேண்டியது: நம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவருக்கு நீதி உரியது. ஆனால் நமக்கும், யூதாவின் மக்கள், எருசலேமின் குடிகள், நம் அரசர்கள், தலைவர்கள், குருக்கள், இறைவாக்கினர்கள், மூதாதையர்கள் ஆகிய அனைவருக்கும் இன்று போலத் தலைக்குனிவுதான் உரியது. ஏனெனில், ஆண்டவர் முன்னிலையில் நாம் பாவம் செய்தோம். நம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவருக்கு நாம் கீழ்ப்படியவில்லை; அவரது குரலுக்குச் செவிசாய்க்கவில்லை; அவர் நமக்குக் கொடுத்த கட்டளைகளின்படி நடக்கவுமில்லை. நம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் நம் மூதாதையரை எகிப்து நாட்டிலிருந்து அழைத்து வந்த நாளிலிருந்து இன்றுவரை நாம் அவருக்குப் பணிந்து நடக்கவில்லை; அவரது குரலுக்குச் செவிசாய்ப்பதில் ஈடுபாடு கொள்ளாமல் இருந்துவிட்டோம்.

ஆகவேதான், பாலும் தேனும் வழிந்தோடும் நாட்டை நமக்குக் கொடுக்கும் பொருட்டு, எகிப்து நாட்டிலிருந்து நம் மூதாதையரை ஆண்டவர் அழைத்து வந்தபொழுது, தம் அடியாரான மோசே வாயிலாக அவர் அறிவித்திருந்த கேடுகளும் சாபங்களும் இன்றுவரை நம்மைத் தொற்றிக் கொண்டுள்ளன. மேலும், நம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் நம்மிடம் அனுப்பி வைத்த இறைவாக்கினர் வாயிலாகப் பேசிய சொற்கள் எவற்றுக்கும் நாம் செவிசாய்க்கவில்லை. மாறாக, நம்மில் ஒவ்வொருவரும் நம் தீய உள்ளத்தின் போக்கில் நடந்தோம்; வேற்றுத் தெய்வங்களுக்கு ஊழியம் செய்தோம்; நம் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் முன்னிலையில் தீயன புரிந்தோம்.

Jesus said to his disciples:

  ‘Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. And still, it will not go as hard with Tyre and Sidon at the Judgement as with you. And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be exalted high as heaven? You shall be thrown down to hell.

  ‘Anyone who listens to you listens to me; anyone who rejects you rejects me, and those who reject me reject the one who sent me.’

We have been disobedient to the Lord our God

A reading from the book of Baruch 1:15-22 

Integrity belongs to the Lord our God; to us the look of shame we wear today, to us, the people of Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem, to our kings and princes, our priests, our prophets, as to our ancestors, because we have sinned in the sight of the Lord, have disobeyed him, and have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God telling us to follow the commandments which the Lord had ordained for us. From the day when the Lord brought our ancestors out of the land of Egypt until today we have been disobedient to the Lord our God, we have been disloyal, refusing to listen to his voice. And so the disasters, and the curse which the Lord pronounced through his servant Moses the day he brought our fathers out of Egypt to give us a land where milk and honey flow, have seized on us, disasters we experience today. Despite all the words of those prophets whom he sent us, we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God, but, each following the dictates of his evil heart, we have taken to serving alien gods, and doing what is displeasing to the Lord our God.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 10:1-12 

The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest. Start off now, but remember, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals. Salute no one on the road. Whatever house you go into, let your first words be, “Peace to this house!” And if a man of peace lives there, your peace will go and rest on him; if not, it will come back to you. Stay in the same house, taking what food and drink they have to offer, for the labourer deserves his wages; do not move from house to house. Whenever you go into a town where they make you welcome, eat what is set before you. Cure those in it who are sick, and say, “The kingdom of God is very near to you.” But whenever you enter a town and they do not make you welcome, go out into its streets and say, “We wipe off the very dust of your town that clings to our feet, and leave it with you. Yet be sure of this: the kingdom of God is very near.” I tell you, on that day it will not go as hard with Sodom as with that town.’
