The plotters of evil will not escape

A Reading from the Book of Micah 2: 1-5 

Woe to those who plot evil,

who lie in bed planning mischief!

No sooner is it dawn than they do it

– their hands have the strength for it.

Seizing the fields that they covet,

they take over houses as well,

owner and house they confiscate together,

taking both man and inheritance.

So the Lord says this:

Now it is I who plot

such mischief against this breed

as your necks will not escape;

nor will you be able to walk proudly,

so evil will the time be.

On that day they will make a satire on you,

sing a dirge and say,

‘We are stripped of everything;

my people’s portion is measured out and shared,

no one will give it back to them,

our fields are awarded to our despoiler.’

Therefore you will have no one

to measure out a share

in the community of the Lord.

ஓய்வு நாளும் மானிட மகனுக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டதே.

✠ மத்தேயு எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 12: 1-8

அன்று ஓர் ஓய்வு நாள். இயேசு வயல் வழியே சென்றுகொண்டிருந்தார். பசியாய் இருந்ததால் அவருடைய சீடர் கதிர்களைக் கொய்து தின்னத் தொடங்கினர். பரிசேயர்கள் இதைப் பார்த்து இயேசுவிடம், “பாரும், ஓய்வுநாளில் செய்யக் கூடாததை உம் சீடர்கள் செய்கிறார்கள்” என்றார்கள்.

அவரோ அவர்களிடம், “தாமும் தம்முடன் இருந்தவர்களும் பசியாய் இருந்தபோது தாவீது என்ன செய்தார் என்பதை நீங்கள் வாசித்தது இல்லையா? இறை இல்லத்திற்குள் சென்று அவரும் அவரோடு இருந்தவர்களும் அர்ப்பண அப்பங்களை உண்டார்கள். குருக்கள் மட்டுமே உண்ணக்கூடிய அப்பங்களை அவர்கள் உண்டது தவறல்லவா?

மேலும் ஓய்வு நாள்களில் குருக்கள் கோவிலில் பணியாற்றுவது ஓய்வு நாளை மீறும் குற்றமாகாது என நீங்கள் திருச்சட்டத்தில் வாசித்ததில்லையா? ஆனால் கோவிலை விடப் பெரியவர் இங்கே இருக்கிறார் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.

‘பலியை அல்ல, இரக்கத்தையே விரும்புகிறேன்’ என்பதன் கருத்தை நீங்கள் அறிந்திருந்தால் குற்றமற்ற இவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்திருக்க மாட்டீர்கள். ஆம், ஓய்வு நாளும் மானிட மகனுக்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டதே” என்றார்.

‘வாழ்வோர் உலகில் ஆண்டவரை நான் காண இயலாதே! மண்ணுலகில் குடியிருப்போருள் எந்த மனிதரையும் என்னால் பார்க்க முடியாதே!’ என்றேன். - பல்லவி

என் உறைவிடம் மேய்ப்பனின் கூடாரத்தைப் போல் பெயர்க்கப்பட்டு என்னை விட்டு அகற்றப்படுகிறது. நெசவாளன் பாவைச் சுருட்டுவது போல் என் வாழ்வை முடிக்கிறேன். தறியிலிருந்து அவர் என்னை அறுத்தெறிகிறார். - பல்லவி

எசேக்கியா நோய்வாய்ப்பட்டு சாகும் நிலையில் இருந்தார்; ஆமோட்சின் மகனான எசாயா இறைவாக்கினர் அவரைக் காணவந்து அவரை நோக்கி, “ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே: நீர் உம் வீட்டுக் காரியத்தை ஒழுங்குபடுத்தும்; ஏனெனில் நீர் சாகப் போகிறீர்; பிழைக்க மாட்டீர்” என்றார். எசேக்கியா சுவர்ப் புறம் தம் முகத்தைத் திருப்பிக்கொண்டு ஆண்டவரிடம் மன்றாடி, “ஆண்டவரே, நான் உம் திருமுன் உண்மை வழியில் மாசற்ற மனத்துடன் நடந்து வந்ததையும் உம் பார்வைக்கு நலமானவற்றைச் செய்ததையும் நினைத்தருளும்” என்று கூறிக் கண்ணீர் சிந்தித் தேம்பித் தேம்பி அழுதார்.

அப்போது ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு எசாயாவுக்கு அருளப்பட்டது; “நீ எசேக்கியாவிடம் சென்று கூறவேண்டியது: உன் தந்தை தாவீதின் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே; உன் கண்ணீரைக் கண்டேன். இதோ நீ வாழும் காலத்தை இன்னும் பதினைந்து ஆண்டு மிகுதியாக்குவேன். உன்னையும் இந்த நகரையும் அசீரிய மன்னன் கையினின்று விடுவிப்பேன்; இந்த நகரைப் பாதுகாப்பேன்."

“எசேக்கியா நலமடைய, ஓர் அத்திப்பழ அடையைக் கொண்டு வந்து பிளவையின்மேல் வைத்துக் கட்டுங்கள்” என்று எசாயா பதில் கூறியிருந்தார். ஏனெனில், “ஆண்டவரின் இல்லத்திற்கு என்னால் போக முடியும் என்பதற்கு எனக்கு அடையாளம் யாது?” என்று எசேக்கியா அரசர் கேட்டிருந்தார். தாம் கூறிய இந்த வார்த்தையை ஆண்டவர் நிறைவேற்றுவார் என்பதற்கு அவர் உமக்களிக்கும் அடையாளம்: இதோ, சாயும் கதிரவனின் நிழல் ஆகாசின் கதிரவக் கடிகையில் பத்துப் பாத அளவு பின்னிடச் செய்வேன்.” அவ்வாறே சாயும் கதிரவனின் நிழல் அக்கடிகையில் பத்துப் பாத அளவு பின்னிட்டது.

The Son of Man is master of the sabbath

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 12:1-8 

Jesus took a walk one sabbath day through the cornfields. His disciples were hungry and began to pick ears of corn and eat them. The Pharisees noticed it and said to him, ‘Look, your disciples are doing something that is forbidden on the sabbath.’ But he said to them, ‘Have you not read what David did when he and his followers were hungry – how he went into the house of God and how they ate the loaves of offering which neither he nor his followers were allowed to eat, but which were for the priests alone? Or again, have you not read in the Law that on the sabbath day the Temple priests break the sabbath without being blamed for it? Now here, I tell you, is something greater than the Temple. And if you had understood the meaning of the words: What I want is mercy, not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the blameless. For the Son of Man is master of the sabbath.’

The Lord hears Hezekiah's prayer and heals him

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 38 :1-6,21-22,7-8 

Hezekiah fell ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came and said to him, ‘The Lord says this, “Put your affairs in order, for you are going to die, you will not live.”’ Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and addressed this prayer to the Lord, ‘Ah, Lord, remember, I beg you, how I have behaved faithfully and with sincerity of heart in your presence and done what is right in your eyes.’ And Hezekiah shed many tears.

  Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, ‘Go and say to Hezekiah, “The Lord, the God of David your ancestor, says this: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will cure you: in three days’ time you shall go up to the Temple of the Lord. I will add fifteen years to your life. I will save you from the hands of the king of Assyria, I will protect this city.”’

  ‘Bring a fig poultice,’ Isaiah said, ‘apply it to the ulcer and he will recover.’ Hezekiah said, ‘What is the sign to tell me that I shall be going up to the Temple of the Lord?’ ‘Here’ Isaiah replied ‘is the sign from the Lord that he will do what he has said. Look, I shall make the shadow cast by the declining sun go back ten steps on the steps of Ahaz.’ And the sun went back the ten steps by which it had declined.

'Awake and exult, all you who lie in the dust'

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 26: 7-9,12,16-19 

The path of the upright man is straight,

you smooth the way of the upright.

Following the path of your judgements,

we hoped in you, O Lord,

your name, your memory are all my soul desires.

At night my soul longs for you

and my spirit in me seeks for you;

when your judgements appear on earth

the inhabitants of the world learn the meaning of integrity.

O Lord, you are giving us peace,

since you treat us

as our deeds deserve.

Distressed, we search for you, O Lord;

the misery of oppression was your punishment for us.

As a woman with child near her time

writhes and cries out in her pangs,

so are we, O Lord, in your presence:

we have conceived, we writhe

as if we were giving birth;

we have not given the spirit of salvation to the earth,
