A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 5: 1-8 

Get rid of the old yeast of evil and wickedness

I have been told as an undoubted fact that one of you is living with his father’s wife. This is a case of sexual immorality among you that must be unparalleled even among pagans. How can you be so proud of yourselves? You should be in mourning. A man who does a thing like that ought to have been expelled from the community. Though I am far away in body, I am with you in spirit, and have already condemned the man who did this thing as if I were actually present. When you are assembled together in the name of the Lord Jesus, and I am spiritually present with you, then with the power of our Lord Jesus he is to be handed over to Satan so that his sensual body may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord.

  The pride that you take in yourselves is hardly to your credit. You must know how even a small amount of yeast is enough to leaven all the dough, so get rid of all the old yeast, and make yourselves into a completely new batch of bread, unleavened as you are meant to be. Christ, our passover, has been sacrificed; let us celebrate the feast, then, by getting rid of all the old yeast of evil and wickedness, having only the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

காது கேளாதோர் கேட்கவும் பேச்சற்றோர் பேசவும் செய்கிறாரே!

✠ மாற்கு எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 7: 31-37

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தீர் பகுதியை விட்டு, சீதோன் வழியாகச் சென்று தெக்கப்பொலி பகுதி நடுவே வந்து, கலிலேயக் கடலை அடைந்தார். காது கேளாதவரும் திக்கிப் பேசுபவருமான ஒருவரைச் சிலர் அவரிடம் கொண்டு வந்து, அவர்மீது கை வைத்துக் குணமாக்குமாறு அவரை வேண்டிக் கொண்டனர். இயேசு அவரைக் கூட்டத்திலிருந்து தனியே அழைத்துச் சென்று, தம் விரல்களை அவர் காதுகளில் இட்டு, உமிழ்நீரால் அவர் நாவைத் தொட்டார்; பிறகு வானத்தை அண்ணாந்து பார்த்து, பெருமூச்சு விட்டு, அவரை நோக்கி ‘எப்பத்தா’ அதாவது ‘திறக்கப்படு’ என்றார். உடனே அவருடைய காதுகள் திறக்கப்பட்டன; நாவும் கட்டவிழ்ந்தது. அவர் தெளிவாகப் பேசினார்.

இதை எவருக்கும் சொல்ல வேண்டாமென்று அவர்களுக்கு அவர் கட்டளையிட்டார். அவரது கட்டளைக்கு நேர்மாறாக இன்னும் மிகுதியாய் அவர்கள் அதை அறிவித்து வந்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் அளவு கடந்த வியப்பில் ஆழ்ந்தவர்களாய், “இவர் எத்துணை நன்றாக யாவற்றையும் செய்து வருகிறார்! காது கேளாதோர் கேட்கவும் பேச்சற்றோர் பேசவும் செய்கிறாரே!” என்று பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

என் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, மாட்சிமிக்க நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவினிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டுள்ள நீங்கள் ஆள்பார்த்துச் செயல்படாதீர்கள். பொன் மோதிரமும் பளபளப்பான ஆடையும் அணிந்த ஒருவரும் அழுக்குக் கந்தை அணிந்த ஏழை ஒருவரும் உங்கள் தொழுகைக்கூடத்தினுள் வருகிறார்கள் என வைத்துக்கொள்வோம். அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் பளபளப்பான ஆடை அணிந்தவர்மீது தனிக் கவனம் செலுத்தி அவரைப் பார்த்து, “தயவுசெய்து இங்கே அமருங்கள்” என்று சொல்கிறீர்கள். ஏழையிடமோ, “அங்கே போய் நில்” என்றோ அல்லது “என் கால்பக்கம் தரையில் உட்கார்” என்றோ சொல்கிறீர்கள். இவ்வாறு உங்களுக்குள்ளே வேறுபாடு காட்டி, தீய எண்ணத்தோடு மதிப்பிடுகிறீர்கள் அல்லவா?

என் அன்பார்ந்த சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, நான் சொல்வதைக் கேளுங்கள்: உலகின் பார்வையில் ஏழைகளாய் இருப்பவர்களை, நம்பிக்கையில் செல்வர்களாகவும் தம்மீது அன்பு செலுத்துபவருக்கு வாக்களிக்கப்பட்ட அரசை உரிமைப்பேறாகப் பெறுபவர்களாகவும் கடவுள் தேர்ந்துகொள்ளவில்லையா?

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 7: 31-37

Returning from the district of Tyre, Jesus went by way of Sidon towards the Sea of Galilee, right through the Decapolis region. And they brought him a deaf man who had an impediment in his speech; and they asked him to lay his hand on him. He took him aside in private, away from the crowd, put his fingers into the man’s ears and touched his tongue with spittle. Then looking up to heaven he sighed; and he said to him, ‘Ephphatha’, that is, ‘Be opened.’ And his ears were opened, and the ligament of his tongue was loosened and he spoke clearly. And Jesus ordered them to tell no one about it, but the more he insisted, the more widely they published it. Their admiration was unbounded. ‘He has done all things well,’ they said ‘he makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak.’

My brothers, do not try to combine faith in Jesus Christ, our glorified Lord, with the making of distinctions between classes of people. Now suppose a man comes into your synagogue, beautifully dressed and with a gold ring on, and at the same time a poor man comes in, in shabby clothes, and you take notice of the well-dressed man, and say, ‘Come this way to the best seats’; then you tell the poor man, ‘Stand over there’ or ‘You can sit on the floor by my foot-rest.’ Can’t you see that you have used two different standards in your mind, and turned yourselves into judges, and corrupt judges at that?

Listen, my dear brothers: it was those who are poor according to the world that God chose, to be rich in faith and to be the heirs to the kingdom which he promised to those who love him.
