நான் உங்களுக்கு அறிவித்த நற்செய்தியை நீங்கள் உறுதியாகப் பற்றிக்கொண்டிருந்தால், அதன் வழியாக மீட்பு அடைவீர்கள்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 15: 1-11

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

உங்களுக்கு நான் அறிவித்த நற்செய்தியை நினைவுறுத்த விழைகிறேன். அதை நீங்களும் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டீர்கள்; அதிலே நிலைத்தும் நிற்கிறீர்கள். நான் உங்களுக்கு அறிவித்த நற்செய்தியை நீங்கள் உறுதியாகப் பற்றிக்கொண்டிருந்தால் அதன் வழியாக மீட்பு அடைவீர்கள்; இல்லையேல் நீங்கள் கொண்டிருக்கும் நம்பிக்கை பொருளற்றதே.

நான் பெற்றுக்கொண்டதும், முதன்மையானது எனக் கருதி உங்களிடம் ஒப்படைத்ததும் இதுவே: மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளவாறு கிறிஸ்து நம் பாவங்களுக்காக இறந்து, அடக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டார். மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளவாறே மூன்றாம் நாள் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டார். பின்னர் அவர் கேபாவுக்கும் அதன்பின் பன்னிருவருக்கும் தோன்றினார். பின்பு ஐந்நூற்றுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளுக்கு ஒரே நேரத்தில் தோன்றினார். அவர்களுள் பலர் இன்னமும் உயிரோடு இருக்கின்றனர்; சிலர் இறந்துவிட்டனர். பிறகு யாக்கோபுக்கும் அதன்பின் திருத்தூதர் அனைவருக்கும் தோன்றினார். எல்லாருக்கும் கடைசியில் காலம் தப்பிப் பிறந்த குழந்தை போன்ற எனக்கும் தோன்றினார்.

நான் திருத்தூதர்களிடையே மிகக் கடையவன். திருத்தூதர் என அழைக்கப் பெறத் தகுதியற்றவன். ஏனெனில் கடவுளின் திருச்சபையைத் துன்புறுத்தினேன். ஆனால் இப்போது நான் இந்த நிலையில் இருப்பது கடவுளின் அருளால்தான். அவர் எனக்களித்த அருள் வீணாகிவிட வில்லை. திருத்தூதர்கள் எல்லாரையும்விட நான் மிகுதியாகப் பாடுபட்டு உழைத்தேன். உண்மையில் நானாக உழைக்கவில்லை; என்னோடு இருக்கும் கடவுளின் அருளே அவ்வாறு உழைக்கச் செய்தது. நானோ மற்றத் திருத்தூதர்களோ யாராய் இருந்தாலும் இதையே பறைசாற்றுகிறோம். நீங்களும் இதையே நம்பினீர்கள்.

At that time

a Pharisee had invited Jesus to eat with him.

Jesus went in

and sat down at the table.

Then a woman from the city, a sinner, came

and heard that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee's house.

She had brought an alabaster jar of perfume.

She stood behind him at his feet, weeping,

and began to wet his feet with her tears.

She wiped them with her hair,

kissed them,

and anointed them with perfume.

When the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this,

he said to himself,

“If this man were a prophet,

he would know who this woman is who is touching him,

and that she is a sinner.”

Jesus answered and said to him,

“Simon, I have something to say to you.”

“Speak, Master.”

Jesus said to him,

“A certain creditor had two debtors;

the one owed him five hundred pieces of silver, and

the other fifty.

Since neither of them could pay him back,

he forgave them both.

Which of them will love him more?”

Simon answered,

“I suppose the one who has been forgiven

the greater debt.

” Jesus said to him, “You are right.”

He turned to the woman and said to Simon,

“Do you see this woman?

I came into your house,

and you did not pour water on my feet;

but she wet them with her tears

and wiped them with her hair.”

You did not kiss me;

she, since she came in,

has not stopped kissing my feet.

You did not anoint my head;

she poured perfume on my feet.

Therefore I tell you,

her sins, even her many sins, are forgiven,

because she has shown much love.

But he who is forgiven little,

shows little love. "

Then he said to the woman,

"Your sins are forgiven."

Those who were with them began to say to themselves,

"Who is this man

who forgives sins?"

Then Jesus said to the woman,

"Your faith has saved you.

Go in peace."

Brothers and sisters,

I remind you of the gospel

that I preached to you;

you received it;

in it you stand firm,

and through it you will be saved

if you hold fast to what I preached to you;

otherwise, you have believed in vain.

First of all, I delivered to you what

I also received:

that Christ died for our sins

in accordance with the Scriptures

and was buried;

that he rose again on the third day

in accordance with the Scriptures;

that he appeared to Peter, then to the Twelve;

then to more than five hundred brothers at once

—most of them are still living,

but some have fallen asleep in death—

நான் மானிடரின் மொழிகளிலும் வானதூதரின் மொழிகளிலும் பேசினாலும் அன்பு எனக்கில்லையேல் ஒலிக்கும் வெண்கலமும் ஓசையிடும் தாளமும் போலாவேன். இறைவாக்கு உரைக்கும் ஆற்றல் எனக்கு இருப்பினும், மறைபொருள்கள் அனைத்தையும் அறிந்தவனாய் இருப்பினும், அறிவெல்லாம் பெற்றிருப்பினும், மலைகளை இடம்பெயரச் செய்யும் அளவுக்கு நிறைந்த நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருப்பினும், என்னிடம் அன்பு இல்லையேல் நான் ஒன்றுமில்லை. என் உடைமையை எல்லாம் நான் வாரி வழங்கினாலும், என் உடலையே சுட்டெரிப்பதற்கென ஒப்புவித்தாலும், என்னிடம் அன்பு இல்லையேல் எனக்குப் பயன் ஒன்றுமில்லை.

we sang dirges, and you wouldn’t cry.” ‘For John the Baptist comes, not eating bread, not drinking wine, and you say, “He is possessed.” The Son of Man comes, eating and drinking, and you say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet Wisdom has been proved right by all her children.’

The supremacy of charity

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 12:31-13:13

Be ambitious for the higher gifts. And I am going to show you a way that is better than any of them.

If I have all the eloquence of men or of angels, but speak without love, I am simply a gong booming or a cymbal clashing. If I have the gift of prophecy, understanding all the mysteries there are, and knowing everything, and if I have faith in all its fullness, to move mountains, but without love, then I am nothing at all. If I give away all that I possess, piece by piece, and if I even let them take my body to burn it, but am without love, it will do me no good whatever.

Love is always patient and kind; it is never jealous; love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish; it does not take offence, and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people’s sins but delights in the truth; it is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes.

Love does not come to an end. But if there are gifts of prophecy, the time will come when they must fail; or the gift of languages, it will not continue for ever; and knowledge – for this, too, the time will come when it must fail. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophesying is imperfect; but once perfection comes, all imperfect things will disappear. When I was a child, I used to talk like a child, and think like a child, and argue like a child, but now I am a man, all childish ways are put behind me. Now we are seeing a dim reflection in a mirror; but then we shall be seeing face to face. The knowledge that I have now is imperfect; but then I shall know as fully as I am known.

In short, there are three things that last: faith, hope and love; and the greatest of these is love.
