நினிவே மக்கள் தங்கள் தீய வழிகளை விட்டு விலகினார்கள்.

இறைவாக்கினர் யோனா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 3: 1-10

இரண்டாம் முறையாக யோனாவுக்கு ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. அவர், “நீ புறப்பட்டு நினிவே மாநகருக்குப் போய், நான் உன்னிடம் சொல்லும் செய்தியை அங்குள்ளோருக்கு அறிவி” என்றார். அவ்வாறே யோனா புறப்பட்டு ஆண்டவரது கட்டளைப்படி நினிவேக்குச் சென்றார். நினிவே ஒரு மாபெரும் நகர். அதைக் கடக்க மூன்று நாள் ஆகும். யோனா நகருக்குள் சென்று, ஒரு நாள் முழுதும் நடந்த பின், உரத்தகுரலில், “இன்னும் நாற்பது நாளில் நினிவே அழிக்கப்படும்” என்று அறிவித்தார்.

நினிவே நகர மக்கள் கடவுளின் செய்தியை நம்பி, எல்லாரும் நோன்பிருக்க முடிவு செய்தார்கள். பெரியோர் சிறியோர் அனைவரும் சாக்கு உடை உடுத்திக்கொண்டனர். இந்தச் செய்தி நினிவே அரசனுக்கு எட்டியது. அவன் தன் அரியணையை விட்டிறங்கி, அரச உடையைக் களைந்துவிட்டு, சாக்கு உடை உடுத்திக்கொண்டு, சாம்பல் மீது உட்கார்ந்தான். மேலும் அவன் ஓர் ஆணை பிறப்பித்து, அதை நினிவே முழுதும் பறைசாற்றச் செய்தான். “இதனால் அரசரும் அரச அவையினரும் மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் அறிவிப்பதாவது: எந்த மனிதரும் உணவைச் சுவைத்துக்கூடப் பார்க்கக்கூடாது. ஆடு, மாடு முதலிய விலங்குகளும் தீனி தின்னவோ தண்ணீர் குடிக்கவோ கூடாது. மனிதரும் விலங்குகளும் சாக்கு உடை உடுத்திக்கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும். ஒவ்வொருவரும் கடவுளை நோக்கி மன்றாட வேண்டும்; தம் தீய வழிகளையும், தாம் செய்துவரும் கொடுஞ்செயல்களையும் விட்டொழிக்க வேண்டும். இவ்வாறு செய்தால், கடவுள் ஒருவேளை தம் மனத்தை மாற்றிக்கொள்வார்; அவரது கடுஞ்சினமும் தணியும்; நமக்கு அழிவு வராது.”

கடவுள் அவர்கள் செய்தது அனைத்தையும் பார்த்தார். அவர்கள் தீய வழிகளினின்று விலகியதை அவர் கண்டு, தம் மனத்தை மாற்றிக் கொண்டார்; தாம் அவர்கள்மீது அனுப்புவதாகச் சொல்லியிருந்த தண்டனையை அனுப்பவில்லை.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: நீங்கள் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டும்பொழுது பிற இனத்தவரைப்போலப் பிதற்ற வேண்டாம்; மிகுதியான சொற்களை அடுக்கிக்கொண்டே போவதால் தங்கள் வேண்டுதல் கேட்கப்படும் என அவர்கள் நினைக்கிறார்கள். நீங்கள் அவர்களைப்போல் இருக்க வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் கேட்கும் முன்னரே உங்கள் தேவையை உங்கள் தந்தை அறிந்திருக்கிறார்.

ஆகவே, நீங்கள் இவ்வாறு இறைவனிடம் வேண்டுங்கள்: “விண்ணுலகிலிருக்கிற எங்கள் தந்தையே, உமது பெயர் தூயதெனப் போற்றப்பெறுக! உமது ஆட்சி வருக! உமது திருவுளம் விண்ணுலகில் நிறைவேறுவது போல மண்ணுலகிலும் நிறைவேறுக! இன்று தேவையான உணவை எங்களுக்குத் தாரும். எங்களுக்கு எதிராகக் குற்றம் செய்தோரை நாங்கள் மன்னித்துள்ளதுபோல எங்கள் குற்றங்களை மன்னியும். எங்களைச் சோதனைக்கு உட்படுத்தாதேயும், தீயோனிடமிருந்து எங்களை விடுவியும். ஆட்சியும் வல்லமையும் மாட்சியும் என்றென்றும் உமக்கே. ஆமென்.”

மற்ற மனிதர் செய்யும் குற்றங்களை நீங்கள் மன்னிப்பீர்களானால் உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையும் உங்களை மன்னிப்பார். மற்ற மனிதரை நீங்கள் மன்னிக்காவிடில் உங்கள் தந்தையும் உங்கள் குற்றங்களை மன்னிக்க மாட்டார்.

The Lord spoke to Moses; he said: ‘Speak to the whole community of the sons of Israel and say to them:

  ‘“Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy.

  ‘“You must not steal nor deal deceitfully or fraudulently with your neighbour. You must not swear falsely by my name, profaning the name of your God. I am the Lord. You must not exploit or rob your neighbour. You must not keep back the labourer’s wage until next morning. You must not curse the dumb, nor put an obstacle in the blind man’s way, but you must fear your God. I am the Lord.

  ‘“You must not be guilty of unjust verdicts. You must neither be partial to the little man nor overawed by the great; you must pass judgement on your neighbour according to justice. You must not slander your own people, and you must not jeopardise your neighbour’s life. I am the Lord. You must not bear hatred for your brother in your heart.
