The Ark of the Covenant is brought into the Temple

A Reading from the first book of Kings 8:1-7,9-13 

In those days: Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the leaders of the fathers’ houses of the people of Israel, before King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord out of the city of David, which is Sion. And all the men of Israel assembled to King Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month. And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. And they brought up the ark of the Lord, the tent of meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent; the priests and the Levites brought them up. And King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who had assembled before him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted or numbered. Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place in the inner sanctuary of the house, in the Most Holy Place, underneath the wings of the cherubim. For the cherubim spread out their wings over the place of the ark, so that the cherubim overshadowed the ark and its poles. There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone that Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the people of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord. Then Solomon said, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. I have indeed built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in for ever.”

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “நீங்கள் மண்ணுலகிற்கு உப்பாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள். உப்பு உவர்ப்பற்றுப் போனால் எதைக்கொண்டு அதை உவர்ப்புள்ளதாக்க முடியும்? அது வெளியில் கொட்டப்பட்டு மனிதரால் மிதிபடும்; வேறு ஒன்றுக்கும் உதவாது.

நீங்கள் உலகிற்கு ஒளியாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள். மலைமேல் இருக்கும் நகர் மறைவாயிருக்க முடியாது. எவரும் விளக்கை ஏற்றி மரக்காலுக்குள் வைப்பதில்லை; மாறாக விளக்குத் தண்டின் மீதே வைப்பர். அப்பொழுதுதான் அது வீட்டிலுள்ள அனைவருக்கும் ஒளி தரும்.

இவ்வாறே உங்கள் ஒளி மனிதர்முன் ஒளிர்க! அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் உங்கள் நற்செயல்களைக் கண்டு உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்வார்கள்.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

கடவுளைப் பற்றிய மறைபொருளை அறிவிக்க நான் உங்களிடம் வந்தபோது மிகுந்த சொல்வன்மையுடனோ ஞானத்துடனோ வரவில்லை. நான் உங்களிடையே இருந்தபோது மெசியாவாகிய இயேசுவைத் தவிர, அதுவும் சிலுவையில் அறையப்பட்ட அவரைத் தவிர, வேறு எதையும் அறியவேண்டும் என்று நினைக்கவில்லை.

நான் உங்கள் நடுவில், வலுவற்றவனாய், மிகுந்த அச்சத்தோடும் நடுக்கத்தோடும் இருந்தேன். நான் பறைசாற்றிய செய்தி ஞானத்தின் கவர்ச்சியான சொற்களில் அமையவில்லை. ஆனால் அது தூய ஆவியின் வல்லமையை எடுத்துக்காட்டுவதாக அமைந்தது. உங்கள் நம்பிக்கைக்கு அடிப்படை மனித ஞானம் அல்ல, கடவுளின் வல்லமையே.

உன்னிடையே இருக்கும் நுகத்தை அகற்றிவிட்டு, சுட்டிக் காட்டிக் குற்றஞ்சாட்டுவதையும் பொல்லாதன பேசுவதையும் நிறுத்திவிட்டு, பசித்திருப்போருக்காக உன்னையே கையளித்து, வறியோரின் தேவையை நிறைவு செய்வாயானால், இருள் நடுவே உன் ஒளி உதிக்கும்; இருண்ட உன் நிலை நண்பகல் போல் ஆகும்.

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

The only knowledge I claimed was of the crucified Christ

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 2:1-5 

When I came to you, brothers I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

A light rises in the darkness for the upright; he is generous, merciful, and just. It goes well for the man who deals generously and lends, who conducts his affairs with justice.

He will never be moved; forever shall the just be remembered. He has no fear of evil news; with a firm heart, he trusts in the Lord.

A Reading from the Book of the prophet Isaiah 58: 7-10 

Thus says the Lord: Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the Lord shall be your rearguard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’ If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness, if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.

அக்காலத்தில்

திருத்தூதர்கள் இயேசுவிடம் வந்து கூடித் தாங்கள் செய்தவை, கற்பித்தவை எல்லாம் அவருக்குத் தெரிவித்தார்கள். அவர் அவர்களிடம், “நீங்கள் பாலை நிலத்திலுள்ள தனிமையான ஓர் இடத்திற்குச் சென்று சற்று ஓய்வெடுங்கள்” என்றார். ஏனெனில் பலர் வருவதும் போவதுமாய் இருந்ததால், உண்பதற்குக்கூட அவர்களுக்கு நேரம் கிடைக்கவில்லை.

அவ்வாறே அவர்கள் படகேறிப் பாலைநிலத்தில் உள்ள தனிமையான ஓர் இடத்திற்குச் சென்றார்கள். அவர்கள் புறப்பட்டுப் போவதை மக்கள் பார்த்தார்கள். பலர் அவர்களை இன்னாரென்று தெரிந்துகொண்டு, எல்லா நகர்களிலிருந்தும் கால்நடையாகவே கூட்டமாய் ஓடி, அவர்களுக்கு முன் அங்கு வந்து சேர்ந்தனர்.

அவர் கரையில் இறங்கியபோது பெருந்திரளான மக்களைக் கண்டார். அவர்கள் ஆயரில்லா ஆடுகளைப்போல் இருந்ததால் அவர்கள்மீது பரிவு கொண்டு, அவர்களுக்குப் பலவற்றைக் கற்பித்தார்.
