அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “உங்கள் இடையை வரிந்துகட்டிக்கொள்ளுங்கள். விளக்குகளும் எரிந்துகொண்டிருக்கட்டும். திருமண விருந்துக்குப் போயிருந்த தம் தலைவர் திரும்பி வந்து தட்டும்போது உடனே அவருக்குக் கதவைத் திறக்கக் காத்திருக்கும் பணியாளருக்கு ஒப்பாய் இருங்கள்.

தலைவர் வந்து பார்க்கும்போது விழித்திருக்கும் பணியாளர்கள் பேறுபெற்றவர்கள். அவர் தம் இடையை வரிந்து கட்டிக்கொண்டு அவர்களைப் பந்தியில் அமரச் செய்து, அவர்களிடம் வந்து பணிவிடை செய்வார் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். தலைவர் இரவின் இரண்டாம் காவல் வேளையில் வந்தாலும் மூன்றாம் காவல் வேளையில் வந்தாலும் அவர்கள் விழிப்பாயிருப்பதைக் காண்பாரானால் அவர்கள் பேறு பெற்றவர்கள்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

ஒரு காலத்தில் நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதவர்களாகவும், இஸ்ரயேலரின் சமுதாயத்துக்குப் புறம்பானவர்களாகவும், வாக்குறுதியைக் கொண்டிருந்த உடன்படிக்கைக்கு அன்னியர்களாகவும், எதிர்நோக்கு இல்லாதவர்களாகவும், கடவுள் நம்பிக்கையற்றவர்களாகவும் இவ்வுலகில் இருந்தீர்கள். ஒரு காலத்தில் தொலையில் இருந்த நீங்கள் இப்பொழுது இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவோடு இணைந்து, அவரது இரத்தத்தின் மூலம் அருகில் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள்.

ஏனெனில் அவரே நமக்கு அமைதி அருள்பவர். அவரே இரண்டு இனத்தவரையும் பிரித்து நின்ற பகைமை என்னும் சுவரை, தமது உடலில் ஏற்ற துன்பத்தின் வழியாய்த் தகர்த்தெறிந்து, அவர்களை ஒன்றுபடுத்தினார். பல கட்டளைகளையும் விதிகளையும் கொண்ட யூதச் சட்டத்தை அழித்தார். இரு இனத்தவரையும் தம்மோடு இணைந்திருக்கும் புதியதொரு மனித இனமாகப் படைத்து அமைதி ஏற்படுத்தவே இவ்வாறு செய்தார். தாமே துன்புற்றுப் பகைமையை அழித்தார். சிலுவையின் வழியாக இரு இனத்தவரையும் ஓருடலாக்கிக் கடவுளோடு ஒப்புரவாக்க இப்படிச் செய்தார்.

அவர் வந்து, தொலையில் இருந்த உங்களுக்கும், அருகிலிருந்த அவர்களுக்கும் அமைதியை நற்செய்தியாக அறிவித்தார். அவர் வழியாகவே, இரு இனத்தவராகிய நாம் ஒரே தூய ஆவி மூலம் நம் தந்தையை அணுகும் பேறு பெற்றிருக்கிறோம்.

எனவே இனி நீங்கள் அன்னியர் அல்ல; வேற்று நாட்டினரும் அல்ல. இறைமக்கள் சமுதாயத்தின் உடன் குடிமக்கள்; கடவுளின் குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவர்கள். திருத்தூதர்கள், இறைவாக்கினர்கள் ஆகியோர்களை அடித்தளமாகவும், கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவையே மூலைக்கல்லாகவும் கொண்டு அமைக்கப்பட்ட கட்டடமாய் இருக்கிறீர்கள். கிறிஸ்துவின் உறவில் கட்டடம் முழுவதும் இசைவாகப் பொருந்தி, ஆண்டவருக்கென்று தூய கோவிலாக வளர்ச்சி பெறுகிறது. நீங்களும் அவரோடு இணைந்து தூய ஆவி வழியாகக் கடவுளின் உறைவிடமாகக் கட்டப்பட்டு வருகிறீர்கள்.

Jesus said to his disciples:

  ‘See that you are dressed for action and have your lamps lit. Be like men waiting for their master to return from the wedding feast, ready to open the door as soon as he comes and knocks. Happy those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes. I tell you solemnly, he will put on an apron, sit them down at table and wait on them. It may be in the second watch he comes, or in the third, but happy those servants if he finds them ready.’

In Christ you are no longer aliens, but citizens like us

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to the Ephesians 2:12-22. 

Do not forget that you had no Christ and were excluded from membership of Israel, aliens with no part in the covenants with their Promise; you were immersed in this world, without hope and without God. But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far apart from us have been brought very close, by the blood of Christ. For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one and broken down the barrier which used to keep them apart, actually destroying in his own person the hostility caused by the rules and decrees of the Law. This was to create one single New Man in himself out of the two of them and by restoring peace through the cross, to unite them both in a single Body and reconcile them with God: in his own person he killed the hostility. Later he came to bring the good news of peace, peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near at hand. Through him, both of us have in the one Spirit our way to come to the Father.

  So you are no longer aliens or foreign visitors: you are citizens like all the saints, and part of God’s household. You are part of a building that has the apostles and prophets for its foundations, and Christ Jesus himself for its main cornerstone. As every structure is aligned on him, all grow into one holy temple in the Lord; and you too, in him, are being built into a house where God lives, in the Spirit.

அக்காலத்தில்

கூட்டத்தில் இருந்த ஒருவர் இயேசுவிடம், “போதகரே, சொத்தை என்னோடு பங்கிட்டுக்கொள்ளுமாறு என் சகோதரருக்குச் சொல்லும்” என்றார். அவர் அந்த ஆளை நோக்கி, “என்னை உங்களுக்கு நடுவராகவோ பாகம் பிரிப்பவராகவோ அமர்த்தியவர் யார்?” என்று கேட்டார். பின்பு அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “எவ்வகைப் பேராசைக்கும் இடங்கொடாதவாறு எச்சரிக்கையாய் இருங்கள். மிகுதியான உடைமைகளைக் கொண்டிருப்பதால் ஒருவருக்கு வாழ்வு வந்துவிடாது” என்றார்.

அவர்களுக்கு அவர் ஓர் உவமையைச் சொன்னார்: “செல்வனாயிருந்த ஒருவனுடைய நிலம் நன்றாய் விளைந்தது. அவன், ‘நான் என்ன செய்வேன்? என் விளைபொருள்களைச் சேர்த்து வைக்க இடமில்லையே!’ என்று எண்ணினான். ‘ஒன்று செய்வேன்; என் களஞ்சியங்களை இடித்து இன்னும் பெரிதாகக் கட்டுவேன்; அங்கு என் தானியத்தையும் பொருள்களையும் சேர்த்து வைப்பேன்'. பின்பு, “என் நெஞ்சமே, உனக்குப் பல்லாண்டுகளுக்கு வேண்டிய பலவகைப் பொருள்கள் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன; நீ ஓய்வெடு; உண்டு குடித்து, மகிழ்ச்சியில் திளைத்திடு எனச் சொல்வேன்” என்று தனக்குள் கூறிக்கொண்டான். ஆனால் கடவுள் அவனிடம், ‘அறிவிலியே, இன்றிரவே உன் உயிர் உன்னைவிட்டுப் பிரிந்துவிடும். அப்பொழுது நீ சேர்த்து வைத்தவை யாருடையவையாகும்?’ என்று கேட்டார். கடவுள் முன்னிலையில் செல்வம் இல்லாதவராய்த் தமக்காகவே செல்வம் சேர்ப்பவர் இத்தகையோரே.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

உங்களுடைய குற்றங்களையும் பாவங்களையும் முன்னிட்டு நீங்கள் இறந்தவர்களாய் இருந்தீர்கள். அப்பொழுது நீங்கள் இவ்வுலகப் போக்கின்படி, வான்வெளியில் அதிகாரம் செலுத்தும் தலைவனுக்கு ஏற்ப வாழ்ந்து வந்தீர்கள். கடவுளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாத மக்களிடையே இப்போது செயலாற்றும் தீய ஆற்றலுக்குப் பணிந்து நடந்தீர்கள். இந்நிலையில்தான் ஒரு காலத்தில் நாம் எல்லாரும் இருந்தோம். நம்முடைய ஊனியல்பின் தீய நாட்டங்களின்படி வாழ்ந்து, உடலும் மனமும் விரும்பியவாறு செயல்பட்டு, மற்றவர்களைப் போலவே நாமும் இயல்பாகக் கடவுளின் சினத்துக்கு ஆளானோம்.

ஆனால் கடவுள் மிகுந்த இரக்கம் உடையவர். அவர் நம்மீது மிகுந்த அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளார். குற்றங்களின் காரணமாய் இறந்தவர்களாய் இருந்த நாம் அவ்வன்பின் மூலம் இணைந்து உயிர் பெறச் செய்தார். நீங்கள் மீட்கப்பட்டிருப்பது அந்த அருளாலேயே. இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவோடு இணைந்த நிலையில் நாம் அவரோடு உயிர்த்தெழவும் விண்ணுலகில் அவரோடு அமரவும் செய்தார். கிறிஸ்து இயேசு வழியாகக் கடவுள் நமக்குச் செய்த நன்மையையும் அவரது ஒப்புயர்வற்ற அருள் வளத்தையும் இனி வரும் காலங்களிலும் எடுத்துக்காட்டுவதற்காகவே இவ்வாறு செய்தார். நீங்கள் அந்த அருளாலேயே நம்பிக்கையின் வழியாக மீட்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள். இது உங்கள் செயல் அல்ல; மாறாக இது கடவுளின் கொடை. இது மனிதச் செயல்களால் ஆனது அல்ல. எனவே எவரும் பெருமை பாராட்ட இயலாது. ஏனெனில் நாம் கடவுளின் கைவேலைப்பாடு; நற்செயல்கள் புரிவதற்கென்றே கிறிஸ்து இயேசு வழியாய்ப் படைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறோம். இவ்வாறு நற்செயல்கள் புரிந்து வாழும்படி கடவுள் முன்கூட்டியே ஏற்பாடு செய்திருக்கிறார்.
