இயேசு நகர் நகராய், ஊர் ஊராய்ச் சென்று இறையாட்சி பற்றிய நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றி வந்தார். பன்னிருவரும் அவருடன் இருந்தனர். பொல்லாத ஆவிகளினின்றும் நோய்களினின்றும் குணமான பெண்கள் சிலரும், ஏழு பேய்கள் நீங்கப்பெற்ற மகதலா மரியாவும் ஏரோதுவின் மாளிகை மேற்பார்வையாளர் கூசாவின் மனைவி யோவன்னாவும் சூசன்னாவும் மேலும் பல பெண்களும் அவரோடு இருந்தார்கள். இவர்கள் தங்கள் உடைமைகளைக் கொண்டு அவருக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்து வந்தார்கள்.

அன்பிற்குரியவரே,

இவற்றை நீ கற்பித்து ஊக்குவி. மாற்றுக் கொள்கைகளைக் கற்பித்து, நம் ஆண்டவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் நலம் தரும் வார்த்தைகளுக்கும், இறைப் பற்றுக்குரிய போதனைகளுக்கும் ஒத்துப்போகாதவர்கள், தற்பெருமை கொண்டவர்கள்; ஒன்றும் தெரியாதவர்கள்; விவாதங்களிலும் சொற்போர்களிலும் பைத்தியம் கொண்டவர்கள். பொறாமை, போட்டி மனப்பான்மை, பழிச்சொல், பொல்லாத ஊகங்கள், ஓயாத மோதல்கள் முதலியன இவற்றிலிருந்தே உண்டாகின்றன. உண்மையை இழந்தவர்களிடமும் சீரழிந்த மனத்தைக் கொண்டவரிடமும் இவை காணப்படுகின்றன.

இறைப் பற்று பெரும் ஆதாயம் தருவதுதான்; ஆனால் மனநிறைவுள்ளவர்களுக்கே தரும். உலகத்திற்கு நாம் எதையும் கொண்டு வந்ததில்லை. உலகத்தை விட்டு எதையும் கொண்டு போகவும் முடியாது. எனவே, உணவும் உடையும் நமக்கு இருந்தால் அவற்றில் நாம் மனநிறைவு கொள்வோம். செல்வத்தைச் சேர்க்க விரும்புபவர்கள் சோதனையாகிய கண்ணியில் சிக்கிக்கொள்கிறார்கள்; அறிவீனமான, தீமை விளைவிக்கக் கூடிய பல்வேறு தீய நாட்டங்களில் வீழ்ந்து விடுகிறார்கள். இவை மனிதரைக் கேட்டிலும் அழிவிலும் ஆழ்த்துபவை. பொருள் ஆசையே எல்லாத் தீமைகளுக்கும் ஆணிவேர். அந்த ஆசையால் சிலர் விசுவாசத்தினின்று பிறழ்ந்து திரிந்து பல வேதனைகளைத் தாங்களாகவே தங்கள்மேல் வருவித்துக்கொள்கிறார்கள்.

கடவுளின் மனிதனாகிய நீ, இவற்றிலிருந்து தப்பி ஓடு. நீதி, இறைப் பற்று, நம்பிக்கை, மன உறுதி, பணிவு ஆகியவற்றை நாடித் தேடு. விசுவாச வாழ்வு என்னும் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபடு. நிலைவாழ்வைப் பற்றிக்கொள். அதற்காகவே அழைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கிறாய். அதனை முன்னிட்டே பல சாட்சிகள் முன்னிலையில் விசுவாசத்தைச் சிறப்பாக அறிக்கையிட்டாய்.

At that time: Jesus went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s household manager, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their means.

A reading from the first letter of St.Paul to  Timothy 6: 2-12

Beloved: Teach and urge these things. If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

பரிசேயருள் ஒருவர் இயேசுவைத் தம்மோடு உண்பதற்கு அழைத்திருந்தார். அவரும் அந்தப் பரிசேயருடைய வீட்டிற்குப் போய் பந்தியில் அமர்ந்தார். அந்நகரில் பாவியான பெண் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். இயேசு பரிசேயருடைய வீட்டில் உணவு அருந்தப் போகிறார் என்பது அவருக்குத் தெரிய வந்தது. உடனே அவர் நறுமணத் தைலம் கொண்ட படிகச் சிமிழைக் கொண்டு வந்தார். இயேசுவுக்குப் பின்னால் கால்மாட்டில் வந்து அவர் அழுதுகொண்டே நின்றார்; அவருடைய காலடிகளைத் தம் கண்ணீரால் நனைத்து, தம் கூந்தலால் துடைத்து, தொடர்ந்து முத்தமிட்டு அக்காலடிகளில் நறுமணத் தைலம் பூசினார்.

அவரை அழைத்த பரிசேயர் இதைக் கண்டு, “இவர் ஓர் இறைவாக்கினர் என்றால், தம்மைத் தொடுகிற இவள் யார், எத்தகையவள் என்று அறிந்திருப்பார்; இவள் பாவியாயிற்றே” என்று தமக்குள்ளே சொல்லிக் கொண்டார்.

இயேசு அவரைப் பார்த்து, “சீமோனே, நான் உமக்கு ஒன்று சொல்ல வேண்டும்” என்றார். அதற்கு அவர், “போதகரே, சொல்லும்” என்றார். அப்பொழுது அவர், “கடன் கொடுப்பவர் ஒருவரிடம் ஒருவர் ஐந்நூறு தெனாரியமும் மற்றவர் ஐம்பது தெனாரியமுமாக இருவர் கடன் பட்டிருந்தனர். கடனைத் தீர்க்க அவர்களால் முடியாமற்போகவே, இருவர் கடனையும் அவர் தள்ளுபடி செய்துவிட்டார். இவர்களுள் யார் அவரிடம் மிகுந்த அன்பு செலுத்துவார்?” என்று கேட்டார். சீமோன் மறுமொழியாக, “அதிகக் கடனை யாருக்குத் தள்ளுபடி செய்தாரோ அவரே என நினைக்கிறேன்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “நீர் சொன்னது சரியே” என்றார்.

பின்பு அப்பெண்ணின் பக்கம் அவர் திரும்பி, சீமோனிடம், “இவரைப் பார்த்தீரா? நான் உம்முடைய வீட்டிற்குள் வந்தபோது நீர் என் காலடிகளைக் கழுவத் தண்ணீர் தரவில்லை; இவரோ தம் கண்ணீரால் என் காலடிகளை நனைத்து அவற்றைத் தமது கூந்தலால் துடைத்தார். நீர் எனக்கு முத்தம் கொடுக்கவில்லை; இவரோ நான் உள்ளே வந்ததுமுதல் என் காலடிகளை ஓயாமல் முத்தமிட்டுக்கொண்டே இருக்கிறார். நீர் எனது தலையில் எண்ணெய் பூசவில்லை; இவரோ என் காலடிகளில் நறுமணத் தைலம் பூசினார். ஆகவே நான் உமக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: இவர் செய்த பல பாவங்கள் மன்னிக்கப்பட்டன. ஏனெனில் இவர் மிகுதியாக அன்பு கூர்ந்தார். குறைவாக மன்னிப்புப் பெறுவோர் குறைவாக அன்பு செலுத்துவோர் ஆவர்” என்றார்.

பின்பு அப்பெண்ணைப் பார்த்து, “உம் பாவங்கள் மன்னிக்கப்பட்டன” என்றார். “பாவங்களையும் மன்னிக்கும் இவர் யார்?” என்று அவரோடு பந்தியில் அமர்ந்திருந்தவர்கள் தங்களுக்குள் சொல்லிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

இயேசு அப்பெண்ணை நோக்கி, “உமது நம்பிக்கை உம்மை மீட்டது; அமைதியுடன் செல்க” என்றார்.

At that time: One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table. And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that he was reclining at table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of ointment, and standing behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head and kissed his feet and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.” And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” And he answered, “Say it, Teacher.” “A certain money-lender had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they could not pay, he cancelled the debt of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon answered, “The one, I suppose, for whom he cancelled the larger debt.” And he said to him, “You have judged rightly.” Then turning towards the woman he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You gave me no kiss, but from the time I came in she has not ceased to kiss my feet. You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.” And he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” Then those who were at table with him began to say among themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?” And he said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
